CQC interview

Hello!
I am a usual Mumsnetter, but changed username.

I had an interview with CQC for a inspector role just over two weeks ago, they said they'd be in touch either way by end of last week or beginning of this week. The portal says my application is "in review" and no change since before interview.

How long shall I give it until I follow up, or shall I even follow it up at all? It's a job I've wanted for a while but I'm unsure of what the realistic timescales are with these sorts of organisations!

Thanks

The starting pay is on the add, when you apply

In Wales it had a salary but you could go up 2 points higher to a maximum of they thought you had sufficient experience....hence I wondered if anyone was offered the higher starting rate.

@ImWithYou have they given you your region yet?
on the provisional I was given an area about 1 hour away and on the final offer it states another region 2.5hrs away!!
I don’t know what you do 😒

My goodness, that's very far. I wonder how often we will be expected to travel? The paperwork they sent me just states my usual place of work will be home based, nothing about a region yet.

They told me that it is homebased however you will be expected to travel to your region for team meetings, stakeholder meeting and on rare occasions if there is an emergency.
I’m guessing you don’t have your start date yet?

ImWithYou · 03/08/2025 19:53

I'm used to travelling for work but 2.5hours is a bit much if it's a regular thing. No, no start date yet, I have a fairly lengthy notice period so the sooner I know the better lol

It’s not going to be extensive travel. I would say a few times a month maybe…

I'm stillll waiting... Called today and asked if I'd received any outcomes at all ... Then said they would get someone to call me back.... Currently no call ... It's a bit of a trial isn't it. Well done to you all who have heard!!! Great news x

I got exactly the same last Thursday after waiting for 60 mins to get through. Was told someone had left for the day but would ring me back the next day….still waiting!

Oh gosh really... I've been on edge all day ... I'll hold on for another week I guess! Which area did you apply for? It's not great is it

No it’s a bit nerve wracking isn’t it?! My curiosity can’t wait longer than this. I’ve applied for north west, what about you?

@SWmum26 I’ve had the same issue on 4 separate occasions, being told someone will call me back but the call never comes. I was told a few weeks ago that I had passed everything but it had been passed to the assistant director to see if there’s a place for me in my area…still nothing! When I have rang again I’ve been told “I will definitely call you when I hear anything” but I’m not particularly convinced because my calls are never returned. Starting to give up hope and that’s such a shame because I do desperately want the job ☹️

Wow that sounds so frustrating! I wonder if they need a recruitment drive for HR to manage this recruitment drive 😂 congratulations for getting the pass information though. I just want to know so I can be out out of my misery if it’s bad news. Also it’s making it tricky at work as they are offering me year long training and if I turn it down, it looks suspicious and unhelpful, and if I accept it, it makes it harder to leave/ id probably have to pay them back!

SWmum26 · 05/08/2025 17:21

I rang HR today and I was told a staff member was ringing everyone this afternoon to give updates on interviews for the inspector role. I didn’t receive a call but hopefully some others got their update!

Still nothing here.... I wouldn't mind if I didn't really really want this role! 😭

Titasaducksarse · 05/08/2025 18:32

Sorry if this is a daft question but dress code. Have you been given any guidance? I'm thinking smart office wear?

xxMsFxx · 05/08/2025 20:46

@SWmum26 i haven’t had a call either ☹️

@SWmum26 no idea! When I look on my profile it still says in review and looks like nothing has been done with it since 17th July. So frustrating

That’s same as mine, it says mines not been accessed since two days before the interview. I just want to know so I’m not getting my hopes up!

Snap ... Same here! 😳

This Is just CQC non-existent timelines. I was inspector for nearly a decade, having moved into it from a corporate role. I was shocked at just how unprofessional set up it is and it doesn’t sound like it’s got much better. The HR system, training for the role are all absolute rubbish. If you get the job, you’ll pretty much learn on the job. There were aspects I enjoyed, but a crazy workload, rubbish internal systems and management that leaves a lot to be desired. The pay is pretty rubbish given the level of responsibility. I’m very glad I’m out of it.

xxMsFxx · 06/08/2025 11:41

Well I called this morning and was told the decision maker is now off work due to unexpected circumstances so we won’t hear until next week. Every week I’m told next week lol but hopefully they mean it this time!

What area did you work in? I’ve heard mixed reviews, some mirroring your experience and others saying that the staff and relationships in the job are what help make it good. What area of work did you end up moving to?

Has anyone else heard anything yet?
