CQC interview

Hello!
I am a usual Mumsnetter, but changed username.

I had an interview with CQC for a inspector role just over two weeks ago, they said they'd be in touch either way by end of last week or beginning of this week. The portal says my application is "in review" and no change since before interview.

How long shall I give it until I follow up, or shall I even follow it up at all? It's a job I've wanted for a while but I'm unsure of what the realistic timescales are with these sorts of organisations!

Thanks

9 weeks? Gosh that's madness!

BeautifulSongsofLove · 10/06/2025 18:11

Congratulations on getting the job/through to the next stage

I'm currently writing a personal statement for a CQC inspector role. I've read about the scoring system and using STAR (or CAR) approach to format my knowledge, skills and experiences (KSE). This thread had been really helpful and I'm reading through GOV.UK CS success profiles for tips.

I work in healthcare and have (most of) the KSE needed but it's years since I've had to write an application and I'm not certain that I used the STAR format even then!

Is anyone happy to share some of their STAR examples so I can see & understand what's expected? I'm more than happy for you to PM if you'd prefer. Thank you

@iosc2418 thanks for the interview advice, should I get there
@Rachandmickey good luck next time, I appreciate you posting your feedback here
@PumpkinSpiceSeason any tips you can to share would be appreciated

PumpkinSpiceSeason · 10/06/2025 18:48

I like to think of it like STARR with that second R being reflection. The most common follow up questions in my experience are: did you receive any feedback and looking back what might you have done differently. Be ready for those!

Ainsleysbbqbible · 12/06/2025 18:27

Thanks @BeautifulSongsofLove ! I’ve been there a year now! Although, found out I was pregnant two weeks after starting, so now on maternity leave! 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Well just to update, 9 weeks and 2 days after the offer was made, HR finally contacted me today. So they will now chase references and do DBS checks etc. (which could so easily have been done by now!). However at least things seem to be happening finally. The people at the job centre simply struggled to believe me that after all this time I am still awaiting a start date!

Nurseposter123 · 12/06/2025 22:46

I have to ask people how long after interview they were called about an offer. It's been two weeks and I'm so impatient!

Lady74 · 13/06/2025 07:16

They must lose so many potential staff who just give up and start looking elsewhere 🙈 I have been waiting for 4 weeks now since interview…. Still waiting 🙏

Sorry to tell you if you are impatient, but it took them 4 months to tell me...

Hi everyone.
I have applied for an inspector job and because I have been on maternity leave, I feel like I will do so bad on the interview because my brain isn't braining lol
I know there is a written test and an interview but I have no idea what questions they ask and what sort of scenarios they do. If anyone could help,I would be grateful.

I passed the case study and had my interview yesterday for asc inspector and was told that I would hear once all interviews are completed…. Bit worried though as they are still advertising so hoping I won’t have to wait until they are interviewed too 🙈…. It’s been a very loooong process x

@Lady74

Congratulations, that's amazing news! I may be wrong but did you also get offered the inspector role? I could be thinking of another poster. They contacted me last week with a conditional offer. So relieved the wait to find out is over. I've submitted my ID check, just waiting for the onboarding team to contact me.

@Mrsmiddie keeping my fingers crossed you've also had good news?

Thanks for thinking of me. I’ve still not heard a peep so perhaps not good news. Would be good to hear back soon though, put me out of my misery 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Mrsmiddie · 17/06/2025 16:16

Sorry I should also add, congratulations though! Well done! Did they give any idea how long the next process takes?

ImWithYou · 17/06/2025 17:22

Thank you. Hopefully they won't keep you hanging much longer. They haven't given a time frame but did mention that the onboarding team are very busy at the moment.

Lady74 · 17/06/2025 20:21

Still not a peep….. I have emailed twice now but had no response 🤷‍♀️ I applied for London and east of England …… still trying to keep patient 🥰

congrats to those who have heard back and been successful tho…. So pleased for you x

@ImWithYou I went for two roles Inspector & RC
Inspector- passed everything but they don’t have a post in my geographical area at present so have put me on the ‘offer ready’ list.
RC offered yesterday and did my RTW check today. Am I right in saying you have got the RC post? What region have they told you, your covering? Mine in Coventry & Warwickshire.

I have learnt no news is most likely going to be good news so hold in on there and hopefully you will get a decision soon x

@Mrsmiddie hopefully you will hear soon. Do try chasing it up if you can.
The fact you have not heard as yet may be a good thing as I think they let unsuccessful candidates know much quicker.

More than a month… and I think that’s because I was chasing them up in all of the pre employment stages. And my allocated HR staff is very helpful too.

Oh wow!
what checks does the on boarding entail? Is there anything I can start chasing/ doing now so it’s quicker?
How many references do you have to provide because I have worked in my current role 10yrs and my two previous employments were charity’s and no longer exist
