Has anyone had work via DICT8 this week ?

Whitestar55 · 10/04/2024 12:35

@Pinksvilles Not as much as usual and more gaps with no work at all.

Sometimes I'm glad there's no work, it forces to me to look for something better, than this crap.

Is there a shortage of work then, I haven’t noticed much difference TBH. I work 6 days a week, mostly in the morning and there’s always plenty of work available. Going back a few years, Sunday was always a no work day and Saturday afternoon thin on the ground. Now Saturday all day is usually ok and Sunday some work but sometimes have to wait for a reload. It might depend on the specialities you have🤔

Newinmarch22 · 11/04/2024 10:42

Work seems a bit less and have found usually some at weekends too although probably 90% of it absolutely dire dictation at which point I just give up!

Chrissols · 11/04/2024 22:09

Seems to be work in my specialities, but who knows if it will last. Thank god the onslaught of feedback seems to have stopped though, it put me off doing any work for them at all!

I too was wondering whats going on there with the feedback. Im wondering what are they cooking-up..

dobboflex · 12/04/2024 11:00

Yes the dictation quality’s definitely dire and has deteriorated dramatically in the last few years. What with terrible English, heavy accents, hollow head-in-a-bucket sound, whispering, burping, coughing, crashing and banging, it does take much longer to complete a task. No technique at all. I have a list of the doctors to avoid to save me time cancelling them!

ElleBee56 · 12/04/2024 11:55

I'm having real problems with some audio being really quiet. I've got the volume on Dict8 and on my computer at 100% but really struggling to hear what's being said in some cases. I have no problems with my hearing. In the past we could increase the volume, if I remember correctly, up to 140% and the speed down to 50% but both were changed to 100% volume and 60% speed. Sometimes being able to increase or decrease was useful. As if other factors (accents, mumbling, external noises, etc) weren't bad enough! I feel like my head will explode with some tasks!

Pinksvilles · 12/04/2024 19:19

@ElleBee56 your comment about your head nearing explosion OMG I thought it was just me 😂There are times when I'm typing and the dictation is 100 mph and their voice tone is monotonous with no pauses I actually thing I'm going to scream 😱I've also had the volume up full blast and always get caught out by the bongs at the end of the task which give me tinnitus for a few minutes afterwards 😡 !!

danblack87 · 14/04/2024 08:16

First week in April was good. 2nd week shite ... background crap and dictation / mumbling/inaudible shite. I felt like killing myself. Depressed Max

That's how I felt on Friday. I got my state pension 2 years ago and had hoped to at least be able reduce this type of work (I do Tpro as well) but no chance with everything going up except our earnings. I'm finding more and more that I'm having to leave notes as the dictation is dire and the audio quality is poor. I have to keep rewinding, slowing down and speeding up the audio that takes time and all for 8p a line that's NEVER increased.

Whitestar55 · 16/04/2024 17:27

It's certainly not easy working in such an unpredictable way on a low rate of pay, especially when it's your main source of income. I feel its taking quite a toll and sucking up so much time leaving me too tired to search for other means of earning an income.

Agree @Whitestar55 it's too time consuming now on DICT8.

Been looking constantly online and around my area to find something that will fit in with my personal circumstances as I cannot carry on working like this for such lousy pay and the quality of work is dropping by the week 😳

Lollybaz · 16/04/2024 21:56

Crikey, you lot don't half whinge! I'm sick & tired of listening to it! I've kept quiet for ages but if you're not happy working for DICT8 then move on! And before you think it, no I'm not "she who can't be named" in disguise but it has to be said that if the pay is crap and the dictation is crap then don't bloody work for them! We are all self employed so can please ourselves! I feel lucky to have a job where I can pick up & drop off work as and when I please even if the pay isn't what I know I can earn outside the comfort of my home. As for the complaints about the quality of the dictation, most of these clinicians don't have English as their first language but are clever enough to save lives so give it a rest please.

Chrissols · 16/04/2024 22:19

@Lollybaz a bit harsh that isn’t it? This site is so folk get get things out as working alone at home can be very isolating. It’s no different than any office I have worked in, and it has to be said, you chose to read the comments, No one forced you!

And nobody forced you to read my comment! It's my opinion just as you all have one!

Chrissols · 16/04/2024 22:31

@Lollybaz obviously just a very angry person 😊

Same here. This so called self employed contractor work for transcription companies is hardly worth the time and effort now. Good luck with your search.

@Lollybaz
You are not listening to anything, you are choosing to read what others have written online. I have chosen to read what you have put on this thread. Do I agree with you - no. I have no idea of your circumstances nor you of mine or others. I am glad that you are happy with your lot on DICT8, that is a good thing for you and your circumstances. Others, unfortunately, are not having such a great time of it and I choose to show sympathy.

My experience - the doctors might well be masters of the operating table but surely you must agree that communicating with patients is also an important part of the job description. I have already commented on this thread regarding my local hospital doing a survey of doctors and their ability to communicate clearly with patients: i.e. The NHS is clearly aware there is an issue.

If you have ever had to wait for months and months for an appointment then been seen by someone who you do not understand, makes mistakes with mcg and mg, and gets you and another patient mixed up (detailing all the other patients medical history) then I think you might think differently.

Chrissols · 17/04/2024 10:30

@Pinksville I agree with that entirely, I cannot understand why @Lollybaz is even on this thread if it annoys them so much. When in an office environment we can just turn to a colleague and have a good 'whinge' as happens in every office, so this is the space for homeworkers to air their feelings and get a bit of support from colleagues in the same situation - not be ridiculed. 'Sick and tired of listening to it'? Simples - don't read it then!

Pinksvilles · 17/04/2024 11:04

:@Chrissols I used to find homework isolating until I found this thread. It has supported me through ups and downs of the job and made me feel part of a working environment. And yes, at my old job the amount of moaning was off the wall but we all had a laugh about it at the end of the day😂

Whitestar55 · 17/04/2024 12:35

We all have an opinion on here, of course, but being ordered to shut up or give up is generally not well accepted and doesn't have to be so, we are all equal here.
