@Chrissols that's fine, if you are happy with that. A work associate of my uncle's got fined a year or two ago for not keeping the correct records on income and expenses so I like to be safe not sorry.

Gally123 · 28/11/2023 12:41

@Chrissols and the chap that was fined had an accountant.

Chrissols · 28/11/2023 16:05

@Gally123 I'm not some high flyer, just making a crust with transcription so will put my faith in my accountant. I used to have my own business and did it meticulously then for VAT and tax etc., but this is really different. I don't even bother with receipts as, having checked, these aren't needed if you just take the £1,000 allowance, which I do so all's good 😊, to be honest, I don't really have any receipts as we don't even have to print and post now. As for the hours, just asked my accountant and he said completely not necessary. Each to there own isn't it, we all have our own ways of working - my way is to make things as simple as possible whilst still abiding by the rules 😉😊

Lincoln72 · 28/11/2023 19:03

They definitely control the workload on an individual basis. One minute there are 4 files, if you pick up the shortest one or the really difficult one at the top of the list which has already been cancelled by a few who rightly opine that they are not dealing with that crap for a piddling 8p per line, suddenly a whole new list appears!

Lincoln72 · 28/11/2023 19:06

I got the same. Thing is your 'errors' threaten their livelihood so micro managing covers all bases.

Whitestar55 · 30/11/2023 10:21

Unfortunately, micro-managing, low pay and poor treatment of workers also threatens the business that is theirs and our livelihoods 😥

Invoice now in, let's see how long it takes

Newinmarch22 · 01/12/2023 11:12

Invoice sent to payment in bank one hour - wow!

cathyk2002 · 01/12/2023 14:21

Mine in today too

danblack87 · 02/12/2023 12:46

I simply show the list of invoices paid from Dict8 as proof of total earnings for the year and keep receipts for anything paid out. My accountant deals with that. I am bothered about the Government announcing that re. benefits people who can work from home should do so self-employed. Well I do do that and legitimately; however, the point that has been missed, I think,is that if you are working from home for outside companies who are paying less than 1/2 the minimum wage/hr you will never get off benefits. It is solely figure crunching and the Government needs to put in place that ALL outsourcing companies pay the correct wage/per hr of work. At the end of the day we can only type the work if the work is there. I can sit at my laptop all day and type fuck-all cos the work is just not there

danblack87 · 02/12/2023 12:50

@Chrissols : I do mine on 'zero contract hours' which is actually what we do per the contract with Dict8; i.e work is there and if you can you do it and if it isn't there you can't zero contract hours.

Chrissols · 02/12/2023 12:54

@danblack87 yes, I’m thinking that’s what my accountant meant when he said there is no need to put a number of hours 😊

danblack87 · 02/12/2023 13:23

@Chrissols: Definitely Zero contract hours

danblack87 · 02/12/2023 13:27

@Chrissols : If I was to put that I work 9-10 hours a day 5 days a week the amount paid to me per month would definitely come out way, way less per hour. It is not a gauge it simply goes on the amount you have actually earnt. Nothing to do with hours

Chrissols · 02/12/2023 14:06

@danblack87 yes, it wouldn’t make sense to put hours down for this kind of work would it

carosel2 · 02/12/2023 22:42

@danblack87 - @Chrissols what I do is just add up what ive earned through the year counting up my invoices total and deducting anything ive had to pay out. Surely its nothing to do with hours worked as you could be working 20 hours at £15/hr or £5/hr. Surely the tax man is only interested in what you have earned per year not how many hours you've had to do to earn it.

Chrissols · 02/12/2023 23:03

@carosel2 I do exactly the same re invoices/income then accountant just sorts the £1,000 allowance as my outgoings wouldn’t come anywhere near that so it’s best for me just to have the £1,000 allowance. He has reiterated there is absolutely no need to state hours worked 😊

Totally agree, paid by line not by hour so shòuldn't need to calculate hours worked

Gardeninggirl56 · 04/12/2023 11:45

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone uses a foot pedal successfully with a MacBook Air laptop. Had real problems connecting and hoping somebody has some information on how to do this. thanks.

danblack87 · 04/12/2023 11:51

@Chrissols and @carosel2 : I agree with the two of you; that is exactly what I do ... HMRC are only interested in what you have earned /// nothing to do with hours per se. Like I said you could work 8 hours a day (well, sit at the laptop) but in all that time you may have had only 4 hours work come through of which you can only type about 2 hours worth. Of course it should be based on what you earn ONLY and not the amount of hours put in /// we all know what we do equates to far below the minimum wage.

Lovemydaxie · 04/12/2023 11:57

It's very obvious the checkers haven't got much to do. I did about 6 filed last Friday and got comments on 4 of them! All 'well done' comments, but still, it's a bit ridiculous

Chrissols · 04/12/2023 14:50

@Lovemydaxie I was getting the same and began to feel a bit uneasy that they were checking every single task, no reason, just felt singled out, but now I know they just haven't got enough to do. I actually stopped doing anything for them because of it though.

Gally123 · 04/12/2023 14:53

@Chrissols @carosel2 @danblack87 I think the hours you work is more to do with claiming for gas (heating) and electricity expenses etc than what you earn.

Yes, that would make sense

Chrissols · 04/12/2023 15:29

@Gally123 That's why I claim the £1,000 allowance 😊
