As a secretary I always listened to the notes anyway/(typed a memo to myself) -- that is the only way of knowing that a note is accurate and that the instruction to the secretary is followed (+ you have a record that you have done as asked and actioned if something goes wrong) That is why, in my opinion, lengthy instruction notes should be typed as a memo ... the secretary can then just type out the note to deal with in their 'admin' time as appropriate. 'Notes Box' should be simply for queries from our side re. drug name/spelling of a word/?word/?unclear/?name of patient or other.

Billybea · 22/09/2023 13:10

@danblack87 I totally agree, as a secretary it’s your responsibility to check the letters for potential mistakes by transcribers and also listen to any notes in full. I knew some secretaries who just topped & tailed them without bothering and in our Hospital the consultants never saw them to sign off! Perhaps I was just too conscientious!

danblack87 · 23/09/2023 11:40

@Billybea : Yes absolutely - printing that memo and checking it against the note dictated are vital. You can act on the memo in an appropriate manner at the required time. The secretary will/should listen to the dictation alongside that which is typed (and make the necessary amendements [despite having possibly been proof-read by Dict8/outsourcer] ... not all letters have been proof-read). That is the job of the PA and ultimately for them to ensure that actions requested have appropriately been carried out. I just used this method to safety-net. Print out the memo and Tick off all the items that had been requested when done starting with the Urgent ones first. Pyt the memo in the patient file for future clinics [so Dr's can see exactly what has been done]. Makes complete ethical sense to me. Safe-guarding.

Pinksville · 23/09/2023 15:48

not sure any of this lot in the NHS know the meaning of the word safe-guarding going on the actions of the doctors and consultants !!!

This week the dictation has been too awful to bother with. I'm not responsible for guessing what these doctors are trying to say in these jumbled letters. Zero earning power at this point - total write off of a week

deflatedbirthday · 25/09/2023 07:33

Sorry I've not been very active on here for a while!

Re the notes situation Dict8 are veering dangerously into employed territory in my opinion. As PP have said, if you want it in full and not in note form, pay! Sometimes it takes me longer to write the note than the actual letter!

danblack87 · 25/09/2023 10:53

I had one the other week -- at the end of letter Consultant says Sec's name and then goes on with the instructions ... I typed it in full but NOT in the notes box. Addressed it to '*' put in patient details (typed as *next letter 2**) - I didn't get any come back from Dict 8 for that (quite rightly so). It was a lengthy instruction. Definitely not 'Notes Box' material.

YellowBellyLola · 27/09/2023 18:20

Dict8 must have taken on some new contracts. I've had some new hospitals that I haven't typed before this week and there's 60+ dictations left for typing now, they are normally all gone by 17:00ish.

deflatedbirthday · 28/09/2023 22:44

Has anyone used the new bacs system yet? Wondering how long from request to payment

Cherryblossom114 · 30/09/2023 10:24

Good day ladies/gents. I have a ?(should I type that in full)..lol
As the 1st falls on the weekend, when do submit invoice

danblack87 · 01/10/2023 07:31

@Cherryblossom114 : I am sending my invoice in at approx 1pm today/Not sure how quick transaction will be but am hoping it will be in my bank by Tuesday lunchtime

cathyk2002 · 01/10/2023 10:41

Done mine Friday teatime (5-6ish)

Billybea · 01/10/2023 10:48

It will be interesting how long it takes now, I submitted mine on Thursday 28th (which I know in their eyes is early but I wasn’t going to be online again until Mon 2/10) but nothing so far. It still just says invoice submitted.

Cherryblossom114 · 01/10/2023 20:47

Thank you ladies for the replies. Just submit mine, not intentionally, I just keep forgetting its the 1st and battling flu/cold symptoms and Nothing much would happen anyway if Admin payroll doesnt work on the weekend but we have a biggger fish to fry...WHEN WILL IT ARR IN THE A/C....%#$@?!!!

Gally123 · 02/10/2023 08:05

and the "living" wage goes up to £11 an hour! Not for those working for DICT8

YellowBellyLola · 02/10/2023 10:48

Payment issued 20 mins ago and it's in my account already..... So that's saved me a week...😀

Billybea · 02/10/2023 10:54

Money paid into my account too! Yippee!

Australia25 · 02/10/2023 11:02

Mine also - so much easier and they could have initiated this years ago - it must save them so much more time rather than having cheques printed out and signed then posted with an expensive stamp!!

cathyk2002 · 02/10/2023 11:22

Same here

Newinmarch22 · 02/10/2023 11:52

Invoice sent, processed, money in bank all within 20 minutes!! WOW!
At last DICT8 living in the 21st century

danblack87 · 03/10/2023 10:40

My invoice was sent at Midday yesterday and payment into my a/c arrived 9am this morning.

carosel2 · 03/10/2023 10:50

Well DICT8 are ahead of T-pro in the payment stakes now, as they don't pay as quick, as they pay anytime between 4 and 7 days and I am still waiting! so well done DICT8 - keeping my monies with them lingering at the moment as it is like a savings account but will come in handy when I want it for Christmas, as I now know they will pay on the dot and wont have to submit a cheque at least and wait for it to clear! 👏

Pinksville · 03/10/2023 15:33

@Gally123 yes that rise in the living wage to 11.00 might be a gamechanger for me.

I have really struggled this month to reach my target (worse than any month). It's not a huge amount to reach but the poor pay and terrible dictation has made it twice as hard. I gave up my job because in the x hours I worked I could earn as much in half that time with DICT8, plus no rush hour traffic, petrol, lunch bills. Now a few years down the line this is not so. The minimum wage coming is something that I am not hitting on a regular basis, so, back to work I might have to go.

I think a pay rise is the next campaign angle on this site !!!

danblack87 · 04/10/2023 10:44

@pinksville: Exactly what you said ... my mind is set there to secure a position within the NHS 16 hours per week over 3 days. Compiling letter as we speak to the Trust in the area in which I live. Dict8 need to up their payment per line in line with the correct minimum wage as they have not increased their payment/line for 15 years.

Pinksville · 04/10/2023 11:35

@danblack87 yes me to, need about the same amount of hours - asking for work from home job to start with either self-employed or employed.

With regard the BACs payments - I'm two days in and still waiting 🙄Was DICT8 lulling us into a false sense of security to start with ??

tryingcouchto5K · 05/10/2023 16:15

Often lurking on site as work for DICT8. Have you all been paid now? - still waiting for mine, invoice submitted beg of week.
