Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

@Frazzledbynature Please don't be too disheartened. They always proofread and pick on newbies. They like you to layout the letters exactly as in their template, but it does take time to get used to this, as obviously not all letters fit into the template and it's confusing and conflicting sometimes. We don't have patient records to make reference to when listening to the, mostly flippin' awful, dictation and it's rare to complete a task without putting anything in the notes/query box, so don't worry. I've been doing this for 15+ years and sometimes still get the dreaded feedback emails, but I've learned over time what I can and can't do to upset them and I no longer let them take the pee. You know, we all know and they know that we are experienced medical secretaries and without us the company is snookered, so don't let it destroy your self esteem. Welcome to the forum where we spend most of our time blowing off steam!! 😂

@Frazzledbynature I share your love of arts and crafts and anything creative and have dreams of making it a sideline business too. I'm also struggling financially, but I think most of us are in that boat now.

@Frazzledbynature They're not particularly clamping down, it's been 8p a line since time began!

I did note the price hasn't changed in years but what i meant is being more stringent with feedback, i thought i'd passed the induction so to speak but now i'm just a naughty typist again lol. I've just told my partner i've had another email and his reaction was copy them all down and ask which one would you like me to adhere to?
i.e. was told to type "letter to GP" so i did that today then told "do not assume who the addressee is" I "assume" all to GP unless stated as names are provided or usually to patient they say dear "patients name!" but thats logic for you.

Frazzledbynature · 08/06/2022 19:31

Thanks for your kindness, i feel like i'm part of the "team" again and i hated in house politics lol. Seriously thanks, I will take on board your 15 years of experience, and know who to come to for a vent ;)
xxxx

Meha5a · 08/06/2022 20:23

@Frazzledbynature welcome. They come at you with feedback weeks after you have done the tasks which is bloody pointless as how are you supposed to remember !! probably why they do it, so they can make up errors to justify their jobs. I used to put the task number down of the ones I could not make any sense of for reference but I can't be bothered now as I don't care enough 😂I have kept several of the more nasty emails over the years in the hope that legally one day we can go at this lot 🤣🤣

Frazzledbynature · 08/06/2022 22:45

Thats made me laugh, like it, i haven't deleted one email yet purely because it spacked out and had to change emails. Must remember to keep them under wraps x

I've been playing with Microsoft Word's dictation software to transcribe some old stories i did as a young "chick" I gave up in the end, recorded it into the pc as i read it out and transcribe my own dictation, its easier!
I don't think i could do that as a permanent job.

user1493458352 · 08/06/2022 23:05

I keep all my feedback emails as you
never know, they are evidence of how awful they treat us.

danblack87 · 09/06/2022 12:18

I kept a few spurious feedback e-mails for reference but have not done that for a long time. Time is too precious to waste.

Newinmarch22 · 09/06/2022 13:34

Well over 100 tasks today but can't get past any of the first five, once again.
But have had a great time reading the thread on worst celebrities, fascinating!

Whitestar55 · 09/06/2022 14:36

I type them, even they are rubbish, just so I can clear the way, I don't waste too much time deciphering, garbage in, garbage out, and hopefully it paves the way for clearer tasks to appear.

OP posts:
user1493458352 · 09/06/2022 14:42

Same here if it’s totally jammed I tackle one to clear the way and just make lots of notes and await the shitty feedback. 🤣🤣

deflatedbirthday · 09/06/2022 14:57

I do the same. I inaudible all over it and put a final note to say it was dire. We're not paid enough to sit and decipher absolute tripe! What gets my goat are the doctors who would be perfectly understandable if they gave even just a little consideration to people typing!

Whitestar55 · 09/06/2022 15:40

How am I supposed to do this when I've run out of chocolate? I so need that serotonin boost 😂!!!

OP posts:
Chrissols · 09/06/2022 15:52

@Whitestar55 I am sat munching chocolate here, not good when just sat on my bum all the time at the computer 😂😂🥓🥓🐖🐖

Whitestar55 · 09/06/2022 16:08

@Chrissols I've settled for an apple now, but I'll be out shopping for chocolate later. Something about this job makes you want to eat and eat and eat doesn't it 🍎🍰🍪and 🍵☕haha

@Newinmarch22 Me too, I was reading about the awful celebrities. When I need a break from typing I look here and then at the trending threads on Mumsnet - much more entertaining than typing but even less rewarding financially!!!

danblack87 · 10/06/2022 12:34

@Whitestar55 and @user1493458352 : I do the same thing re. typing the shortest of the worst in order to clear the way in the hopes of better dictation. There are so many tasks on today. I have done a fair few but there are stops and starts with blockage in rotation of the tasks. I even spent 1 hour in the garden pruning and weeding.

danblack87 · 11/06/2022 07:32

@Meha5a : There is tons of work on Dict8 today -- just logged in!!

Meha5a · 12/06/2022 13:21

@danblack87 I sometimes do the weekends if I give up during the week due to the poor dictation, although reluctantly, as we don't get extra for weekends like I used to in my other jobs !

Gally123 · 12/06/2022 14:55

well if they do phone around again this year I for one will mention pay rise - several times, although on the previous call the woman seemed to read out a set response to any queries/problems I may have.

I did note on the recent email they sent that they seem to contradict themselves re the instruction booklet they sent out (such as "Diagnosis note to secretary" - if "note to secretary" is the main note we will be leaving from now on surely that should be the default and not "note to doctor"? I admit sometimes I do not change it unless they specify "secretary" -as we were originally told, or give a person's name.

Whitestar55 · 12/06/2022 16:29

If you challenge them on the fact we don't get paid for typing instructions to the secretary they go silent. It's about time they address this and stop it or charge the clients for the service, then we can be paid accordingly. I aim to avoid tasks with notes to secretary, but sometimes they catch you unaware, as we all know.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 12/06/2022 16:36

Some of these instructions are quite long and time consuming aren't they - remind of this and that, make an appointment xxxxx, chase up xxx, add to MDT etc, as far as I'm concerned the secretaries can listen to that while being paid to do so, I'm not being the mug who types it out in my own unpaid time, I want the measly 8 pence a line at least for that.
