Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

OP posts:
Meha5a · 23/08/2022 16:43

Utter crap dictation today, yesterday, last week, last month.

You cannot make sense of any of this drivel😡

Chrissols · 23/08/2022 17:59

@Meha5a I could not agree more - I have no idea what has happened with the quality of dictation on Dict8, but it has to be the worst I have ever tried to decipher. I have just stopped doing it for now in the hope it might improve down the line a bit, but do this to try and make a living and that certainly cannot be done on Dict8 at the moment 😣

Cherryblossom114 · 23/08/2022 23:09

Hi kindred spirits..lol, hope you are all ..well okay 💕
So Laptop been playing up all day wouldn't open up the server ie, DICT8 etc, words was fine, thought it had given up the ghost or was overheating .....so keeping a long story short, uninstalled and then reinstalled server, ran a malware of the system that also meant Dict8 was uninstalled and dont wish to speak too soon but that sounding as if they're dictating in a fish bowl was no longer there..on most of them..🤔🎉🌻 @Newinmarch22 I think our friend might have been a locum brought in to clear backlog....but they forgot to give him a lesson on how to use a dictaphone ...

Meha5a · 24/08/2022 09:49

and today, the patient's name dictated sounded like "Good God Almighty" (I left a note 😂)

well why not everybody all over the world uses the NHS so why not God too !!!

Lindsaychad123 · 24/08/2022 09:54

I have a Dr using chap all the time, i am changing it to gentleman as i cannot let letters go out with chap on it but it made me smile today. 😂

Gally123 · 24/08/2022 11:03

@Lindsaychad123 - you might want to rethink that - I changed words that in my hospital we were told to amend as unacceptable only to get feedback telling me not to change words that were "informal and not slang."

Lindsaychad123 · 24/08/2022 11:26

@gally123 i did go back and forward but I know in my own background I would not allow that to go out and surely gentleman is better than chap. I was thinking i will get some feedback for that but i will deal with that when it comes to me. The dr does use gentleman as well so i am hoping its fine. If i do get feedback on it, it is very petty isnt it.

Gally123 · 24/08/2022 11:30

@Lindsaychad123 it is very unprofessional. I did point out that as a trained medical secretary that was part of our function to ensure letters were polite and of a certain standard etc but just got an email from "she who must not be named" telling me not to do it. Ever.

Lindsaychad123 · 24/08/2022 11:33

@Gally123 thank you for sharing your feedback with me, honestly feel damned if i do and damned if i dont at this point with the feedback. I could not imagine being allowed to send a letter out from my trust with chap on it or some of the other variations i have seen that would not fly in my trust. honestly struggling this month to have the motivation for it.

Meha5a · 24/08/2022 11:57

I had one doctor dictate " this 6 year old gentleman" - changed it to boy and got the standard vicious DICT8 response from "she who must not be named" !!!!!

Lindsaychad123 · 24/08/2022 12:12

@Meha5a i do not know why the feedback is so harsh, they want medical secretaries who have experience but then dont let them use their experience. I m all for constructive feedback but sometimes it is so petty it shard.

Meha5a · 24/08/2022 12:28

@Lindsaychad123 couldn't agree more ! personally I think it is down to one person in the company who seemingly has a very controlling nature regardless of whether they are right or wrong. This is from my experience of "she who must not be named" when she constantly boasted about her superior self and went on and on and on and on. Pre "she who must not be named" I found DICT8 to be very approachable and really helpful - especially James: one wonders who exactly is running this company now ???

Lindsaychad123 · 24/08/2022 12:31

I have had quite a easy road with them so far but I have started to really think about the experience i am bringing and then some of the feedback i have received over the time i have been doing it has made me feel really bad abut myself and the work im producing

nomadchild · 24/08/2022 13:13

@Lindsaychad123 that's exactly how it they made me feel and if it wasn't for you lovely people on here supporting me positively and telling me not to take it personally I probably would have been seriously mentally affected by it. I now take it all with a pinch of salt and feel sorry for these people that have to be so demeaning and bullying in the way they talk to us. They obviously are not good at what they do or are punching above their weight. I looked at what working for them did for me and there is a lot of freedom which I relish. I've reached a point in my life where I do not need to work 9-5 so I do this and sometimes its great, others its frustrating. However I can work when I want and for me I am big on fitness and the fact that I can swim in my local pool or go for a hike when I want for how long I want is a big plus better than sitting at a desk all day in a stuffy office so I try and take the positives. Saying that today for me is dreadful as was yesterday. I am totally frustrated with the dire dictation and the fact for the last 2 days the best plans I had to bump up my total have fallen apart. However I still got an hours swim in this morning. So it is not you. You will adjust to not bringing your high standards to what you do. Their loss not yours.

Lindsaychad123 · 24/08/2022 13:20

@nomadchild thank you so much for they kind words i really needed that. I do try and take it with a pinch of salt and i have had one or two occasions where the feedback has helped me or pointed me in the right direction so i do try and take whatever is said on board too. I do need to remind myself of all the good things that i have working like this. The freedom, i also love that i am not chained to a desk and can go to appointments during the day, take a day off if it is sunny and enjoy it, also my main motivation for doing this is my daughter suffered from mental health problems throughout lockdown and i like to be there for her in the morning making breakfast and making sure she has everything she needs and then im here when she gets in at night so yeah i need to focus on those good points and not dwell on the bad things.

nomadchild · 24/08/2022 14:00

@Lindsaychad123 doing it for your daughter is the best thing. I ended up doing it partly cos I could and also my elderly parents who lived over 200 miles away from me were getting frail. It meant I could travel to them when needed and I got to spend their last weeks with them without having to worry about if my boss would let me have compassionate leave and its just carried on from their. It is interesting what leads us to this type of working.

Lindsaychad123 · 24/08/2022 14:27

@nomadchild definitely and the time with my daughter I get now is precious so it is working from that perspective. Also was sick of the nhs politics and favouritism and we could have worked from home during the pandemic but they would not allow us to. I was just so done when I finished up a year ago. I do have a wee weekend job that’s from home but they are even talking about goin back to the office when there is no need to so we will see how much longer I’m there for which is sad because I love the job.

deewu · 24/08/2022 21:57

VR excelling itself today. "He is due to see dermatology currently snorkelling with renal physicians"😂Not entirely sure what it should be!

Gally123 · 25/08/2022 15:09

@deewu sounds like your doctors are enjoying a holiday together! I had one where the doctor had diagnosed a patient with what he thought was a rare condition and the VR stated that he had been "reading about it online at Lidl" making me think he had nipped out to an Internet cafe! I changed it to "a little".

danblack87 · 26/08/2022 12:23

Had a reasonable morning but now stuck with the same '5' for an hour :(

nomadchild · 26/08/2022 12:52

I've had dreadful dictation all morning every file different doctors has so much white noise on it or crackling I am wondering if there is something wrong with Dict8's system. Never never had it this bad. I was blocked by 2 Drs with dreadful crackling inaudible dictation across the 5 files this morning so went off for 2 hours did something else now back different specialties and Drs and just as bad. Looks like I'll be working the weekend to recoup this lot.

Meha5a · 26/08/2022 12:55

That was my day yesterday @nomadchild !!! very frustrating !!! gave up in the end.

sijacks05 · 26/08/2022 13:45

Dictation today is dire, how on earth are they getting away with such mumbling and poor sound quality. Also, as they are sticklers for typing everything you hear, should I be transcribing "hello darling, just a quick note" which this nurse is saying all the time? 🤣

Gally123 · 26/08/2022 13:54

@nomadchild - I used to get that on my old laptop, sometimes a first listen was clear and then on playback I would get awful crackling. I used to log out and log back in and that seemed to clear it.

danblack87 · 26/08/2022 14:32

Sijacks05: type what the Dr dictates --- that's what Dict8 want LOL!!
