Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

OP posts:
danblack87 · 26/08/2022 14:35

@Gally123 : I find logging out and refreshing doesn't make any difference with sound but, strangely, it can make a difference to the list I find!! (weird). I've got mumblers now ... give me bloody strength. The day has been long and I am feeling rather to tired to mess around with 'crap' dictation 😡

danblack87 · 26/08/2022 14:37

@nomadchild : I will be working weekend if there is anything at all BUT we have bank holiday so probably not looking good 🤔

Gally123 · 26/08/2022 14:40

@danblack87 - of course DICT8 does have poor sound quality as well, it was just I found when it went suddenly crackly half way through a letter that had previously been clear then it was my laptop in some way (I had thought may be earphones but as I say, logging out and then back in would clear it).

Just today not a good day, nor yesterday. I think if I went on strike DICT8 would not notice as I do so little at times!!!

nomadchild · 26/08/2022 14:51

@danblack87 tried logging in and out no difference. My headphones are really good sony ones as the sound is so bad I invested some time ago in a high spec pair, so I know its not them. Its just a bad day for me and it all now seems to be in one specialty which has suddenly increased so I think its old dictation from a new contract they've transferred it to their system in some hi techy way as the dates are about 2 weeks ago for the clinics and dictation. All these doctors are new so its defo a new contract. My choice is go to ALDI or clean the bathroom, neither of which I am enamoured with. So annoying when this happens at the end of the month.

Meha5a · 26/08/2022 15:31

They should inform these poor patients that some of the delays are down to the doctors not knowing how to pronounce drug names and surgical procedures in the given specialty they are in !!!! (today - mumble mumble mumble for a drug names ???? !!!) Awful week of dictation, never known it this bad 😡

joewe41 · 27/08/2022 00:10

Meha5a · 24/08/2022 11:57

I had one doctor dictate " this 6 year old gentleman" - changed it to boy and got the standard vicious DICT8 response from "she who must not be named" !!!!!

@Meha5a That seems totally reasonable to change that because he is a boy and not a gentleman. You've got to wonder who they are employing to proof read. We used to have a typing pool where we were all trained and up to standard before going to different areas of the hospital - they would be horrified by this. Remember someone typed what a doctor had said and a more senior admin person nearly went through the poor girl because she had 'split the infinitive.'

Cherryblossom114 · 27/08/2022 11:30
  • *@sijacks05 What is it with this "darling" , they obviously doesnt know you cant go calling people darlings anymore !!!! tempting to do a AltN ...lol
Meha5a · 28/08/2022 09:11

@Cherryblossom114 drives me mad "darling" this "my love" that "sweetheart" soon they will be signing off with kisses !!! With all the crap going on in the NHS with regards to omitting women from every piece of literature possible I personally believe this should be addressed.

Gally123 · 28/08/2022 10:35

@Meha5 - I agree - but women were doomed when they decided to call everyone "actors" instead of "actress" etc. We need to stand up for our right to be recognised as female.

I fear some of the problem is also down to the influx of people from countries were women are regarded as second citizens, and this is evident in the way some male doctors regard female patients - or rather disregard them and their problems as unimportant.

We had a male registrar at one hospital. I am not sure what nationality he was (he was married with one child, a daughter, poor thing), however he refused to recognise women consultants - unfortunately in our small department we had two, and one male. Whenever the male consultant was on holiday he would refuse to turn up for clinics - even though his main consultant was one of the females. He was forever being told by his main mentor in charge of his progression as a doctor that this would harm his career but he still maintained that a female consultant had no right to tell him what to do etc. I do believe anyone coming to our country should abide by our laws and culture - as we do when we go to theirs (on holiday etc).

joewe41 · 28/08/2022 11:43

Heard something similar but with a male radiographer from another country. Every time he finished an X-ray he would hand the female radiographers the wipes to clean everything up and he left the room. They eventually moved him on elsewhere.

Meha5a · 28/08/2022 12:17

Had two work colleagues who came from Africa, one male one female. The male would not acknowledge the female because she came from a different tribe (her words), he was constantly being "advised" (tip-toed around) about his attitude towards her but he refused to change his stance !!! I do agree that if here then our laws and culture should be respected but unfortunately the NHS does too much pandering

Gally123 · 28/08/2022 13:39

@Meha5a - I think the NHS does the pandering because these days there seems to be more non British than British medics, esp If the voices on DICT8 are anything to go by.

They used to charge non British people to use the NHS, ie people who had not paid British NI or tax, but it seems the doctors took a vote and decided that it should be free for all, so doctors, nurses and their families, or basically anyone from overseas (like the woman who had multiple babies on a flight stopover and never paid for any treatment) can have free treatment (and then return to their countries afterwards) that British people have paid for in their taxes. Not sure if this is true.

danblack87 · 28/08/2022 13:58

I think the last 4/5 posts are rather racist. I don't accept that. Yes, some English is rather poor at the best times but there are clearly issues with most of the Drs' dictation at best .. even with the best English in the world they speak at high speed or away from the mic and just mumble away.

Meha5a · 28/08/2022 15:21

@danblack87 ?

joewe41 · 29/08/2022 12:36

@danblack87 It's about the attitude of some, not the people as a whole. I think you are reading the wrong thing into this and putting a slant on it that isn't there. If you are referring to the radiographer post his attitude was sexist and it wasn't racist to say.

danblack87 · 29/08/2022 13:53

@joewe41: It was not about the radiographer at all. It was the tone of the posts I was reading. It was just my opinion ... everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I was thinking more of who else might be reading the messages ... I am sure I lot of people concur but there will be those who don't. Just saying that was all.

Meha5a · 29/08/2022 15:00

@danblack87 I think when you are accusing people of being "racist" you should be specific instead of generalising, at least this give the person the right of reply.

Gally123 · 29/08/2022 16:55

@danblack87 I am sorry if it was me who offended you (and anyone else), perhaps I just phrased it badly, but we were discussing how women/females/ladies are being wiped out and the NHS is becoming a prime example. If you have not worked with a doctor who has refused to do anything a female consultant tells him to do because she is "beneath" him you are lucky. We even had a man referred up for clinic with a problem and when he described it in clinic it turned out that he was not the person with the problem, it was actually his wife, but he refused to allow her to attend the hospital or have anyone touch her - he was the only person allowed to touch his wife. Unfortunately, it was decided it was not possible to treat a person this way and I do not know what happened to her. As mentioned previously, I sometimes go several days on DICT8 without getting any dictation from someone with English as their first language, all I get are Asia, Chinese, East European voices etc, which makes my working life very hard. And it is getting worse. That was the point I was trying to get across. In my local hospital they sacked all the nurses on two wards and replaced them with Filipino workers as it was cheaper than trained English Nurses, even with the transport and training costs. Unfortunately, the "experiment" failed as the new Filipino nurses did not speak very good English and could not understand the patients and the patients could not understand them and a lot of errors were made. Woman are being pushed to one side and maybe it does not bother you, but I think of all the girls now coming through schools with no dedicated "girls" toilets and having to use a unisex one. Girls have a right to privacy and dignity. And I am sure there are some boys as well who would rather not have to share their facilities (urinals etc) with girls. We are being outnumbered and ignored, unfortunately.

Meha5a · 29/08/2022 18:06

@Gally123 In my opinion I do not believe you should feel the need to apologise Your post is thoughtful and true to what you have experienced. I have also experienced similar in my work journey. I agree with you whole heartedly regarding your stance on women and how they are being treated in society.

@danblack87 I believe strongly if you feel that someone is being racist then you should have the strength of your convictions to actually address what has made you feel that way instead of generalising. Give your opinion, let the other person respond and discuss

Gally123 · 29/08/2022 18:13

@Meha5a - thank you - I thought I might have rambled a bit!

Meha5a · 29/08/2022 19:10

@Gally123 x

YellowBellyLola · 30/08/2022 13:31

I haven't hit my target for the month 😕 There have been a few dictations today but they have all been done now. Hoping some more gets uploaded this afternoon!

danblack87 · 30/08/2022 15:12

I am not saying any other than the tone in which the posts were made. There were no specific targets .. I apologise for any offended but it was the way I felt at the time more to do with people reading the posts than me specifically.

danblack87 · 30/08/2022 15:12

Sent my invoice in today. Far below 'normal' target but, then again, I did have 10 days off!!

Meha5a · 30/08/2022 18:45

@danblack87 your post does not make sense ? So it is ok to call people racist just because of the way you "felt at the time" and how you chose to read said posts ? Maybe you could have elaborated on your feelings, discussed, educated before calling people racist. Personally, I am seriously insulted by this
