Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

OP posts:

my feedback today which I find infuriating was incorrect formatting in RE line refer to Dict8 handbook 😱I mean it tells you nothing of your error. So yes I reckon they have bots doing the proofing

Whitestar55 · 18/07/2022 13:31

I don't understand the fuss about the order of the RE: line when it probably gets deleted anyway and replaced by the automatic demographic details of the hospital system. Maybe a standard layout is easier for the bots to read 😁

More annoying for me is when the person dictating does not keep to the DICT8 standard formatting and puts me out of sequence when they dictate the DOB last 😡, all that faffing with the mouse costs money don't they know 😂

Gally123 · 19/07/2022 16:02

@Meha5a - exactly - I have my standard layout that I copy and paste with "Hospital Number" after "DOB" and there are one or two annoying little beggars who dictate "NHS Number" so I dutifully amend it only for them to then dictate "Hospital Number" - don't they know to dictate this first?

Whitestar55 · 19/07/2022 17:20

NHS staff to get a 4.5% pay rise. DICT8 still stuck in 2004 @ poverty pence per line. Do they really still charge the clients 2004 prices?

OP posts:
Meha5a · 19/07/2022 17:21

@Gally123 I wonder if DICT8 tells them off like they do us 🤔

Morning everyone!

First time back after the sizzler, I hope everyone survived the heatwave. I never went near the PC, it’s in one of the hottest rooms in the house, couldn’t type if I wanted to as the computer would not like me and it’s not worth losing for a few pence worth of letters.
Anyhow, I just about made up for it last week and got lucky with the work load. So far today however, two letters, though I did ensure I took the longest available as they were clear – bonus 2022 :D

This is why I hate the shitty layout they insist, why not just type as it is

I use autotext in word with various shortcuts to include what is necessary. just one with "note to secretary" is very handy as N1 so i can just add what they ask, one for diagnosis, meds, investigations, just create your own, its very easy and not so stressful. everything then gets pasted over to the letter and checked, notes placed where appropriate and done.
Next letter i just overwrite apart from typed date.

I miss auto text, I don’t think mac has that function 😔

Gally123 · 21/07/2022 10:13

when I worked at one of my local hospitals (for a surgeon called "Mr Butcher" and we also had one "Mr Payne" and was having a bad I would just remember that one of our registrars (now a consultant somewhere I believe) was called "Dr Sado" and it would make me smile. Reminded of this as just typed a letter to a GP "Dr Crummie"

Whitestar55 · 21/07/2022 11:42

I've come across a Mr Hardwidge, Neurosurgeon, and Ms A Trumper, Child Psychologist, which makes me laugh.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 21/07/2022 11:43

Sorry, that should be Dr A Trumper.

Dr D'Eath 😆

Frazzledbynature · 21/07/2022 12:44

I just struggle with names they just dont spell them out mostly, if they say the hospital i get a chance at finding them. Today i had a dictation "from this hospital" which would have helped if i Knew the hospital.

I've reached my monthly basic quota already, but going for an extra £100 to pay for an air con unit for some reason... 😎

danblack87 · 21/07/2022 16:36

When I worked in NHS my favourite was a children's nurse called Mrs Diaper!!! I thought it was so cool!! In the canteen there was a Miss Cooke and a Mrs Bacon !!! Do you think people choose their professions by surnames?? How about Dr Unsworthy?!! LOL

Frazzledbynature · 22/07/2022 11:49

When typing in urology many moons ago I had a Mr Pointer which amused me but on the same clinic I had Elizabeth Taylor followed by a Mr Ken Dodd. I checked the notes and these are their real names just weird on the same clinic. Made me giggle.

Gally123 · 22/07/2022 14:52

@user1493458352 - I was checking a patient's next of kin with her once and she said her husband was "James Kirk" and I did have to stop myself from laughing. (She was a Mrs Kirk so was not fantasising).

Frazzledbynature · 22/07/2022 21:45

Back in my urology days we had a patient called Holly Day! I couldn't help singing it all day when I had to deal with her.

Prior to my typing day I was a mere clerk and a paediatric patient called Khaleesi, a few Game of Thrones fans among us sniggered especially as that was the name for Queen in Dothraki not an actual name. We later found out it was one of the nurses daughter so we hoped she hadn't been around to hearing us chuckle. I doubt she would thank Mum for the name either😳

Frazzledbynature · 22/07/2022 22:51

Just had an hour as extra tonight. Bored!

Found one doctor coming out of the toilet flushing, I hope the previous one wasn't dictated from in there!

I opted for a different doctor😆

Gally123 · 22/07/2022 22:52

@Frazzledbynature - one of the ward clerks called her daughter "Lillet" and when she got pregnant again my friend wondered if she would call that one "Tampax"!

danblack87 · 23/07/2022 13:15

There was a patient once called Crystal Chanda Lear

Frazzledbynature · 23/07/2022 13:43

Omg, there are some good ones for sure. Xx
