Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

The DICT8 suboptimal word processing platform leaves a lot to be desired, it's impossible to set out some of the things that are requested in the dictation and having to explain it all away in the notes box is pretty inefficient, very time consuming and annoying unlucrative - so stuff that.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 16:30

I've never been at the receiving end of DICT8's completed tasks. I should imagine it takes just as long to integrate them into the hospital system and change them as necessary as it does to type them out in the first place. My Trust had previously used them, but stopped for those reasons, so I think the system needs improving so that we don't lose work.

@Whitestar55 I work at a hospital still where we receive completed work from Dict8. The most difficult thing to format on our system is the indented numbering - it's an absolute nightmare. Apart from that, it's great.

Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 18:11

@Chrissols Do you have to delete the names, DOB and numbers, yours sincerely etc that we type in? I just wondered as these usually come up automatically on the hospital templates don't they.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 06/07/2022 18:43

@Whitestar55 names, dob, hospital numbers etc., are pre-populated so yes we delete them, but we get paid for in on dict8 so its best left as it is.... The yours sincerely is also pre-populated, but it's very quick at the hospital end to sort it, it's those flippin indented numberings that are the problem - our system hates them and makes everything go all over the place - takes forever to sort and would be quicker to type ourselves.... please please don't indent 🥴🥴

Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 19:05

Yeah I know the names etc are best left as they are on DICT8, we need every character we can get don't we! So pre-populated is the terminology, thanks for pointing that out. As I said, admin/writing/record keeping isn't my forte and I've felt like a fish out of water, I hated being a secretary 😂and transcription bores me silly, but needs must.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 06/07/2022 19:08

@Whitestar55 The thing I hate about transcription is the lack of movement - just sat on my bum all day...... and then by the time I 'clock off' I've lost the motivation to get up and about......

Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 19:14

Same here, it turns me into a slug-like being. I think I'd cope better if the pay was doubled though.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 06/07/2022 19:17

@Whitestar55 If the pay was doubled we wouldn't have to sit 'slug-like' for so long...... great description by the way 😂😂😂

Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 19:21

...incidentally, my dog pooed on a slug this morning and so I picked it up via a poo bag and wiped it along the wet grass to remove it. I know they feast on poo, but I don't think it wanted to be completely covered in it. Anyway, I guess the same thing happens to transcribers, they get turned into slugs and get shit on by the companies paying peanuts 😂

OP posts:
Chrissols · 06/07/2022 19:22

@Whitestar55 Absolutely brilliant 😂😂

Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 19:40

I can write stupid things like that, but I doubt I could write a business letter very well 😂

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 19:47

My dog really did poo on a slug by the way, and I cleaned it off and I swear the slug tried to thank me because after I put it back down in the grass it stretched out and came towards me with those protusions with eyes on the end looking at me.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 20:35

@Chrissols You know when you receive a completed task back at the hospital end, is the transcriber identified to you by a number or name and does it state how long they had been working on the task, plus can you request for them to do further tasks or not again and is there a facility to rate them? I feel we are kept in dark about whether and how we are monitored individually, so it would be nice to know.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 06/07/2022 21:01

@Whitestar55 we can only see when the task is picked up by a transcriber but not who the transcriber is in any way. We can rate the task but only by a tick box thing, I.e., very good, good, poor, very poor.

Whitestar55 · 06/07/2022 22:33

@Chrissols Thanks. Pity we can't rate the quality of the dictation too!

OP posts:
Chrissols · 07/07/2022 09:32

@Whitestar55 we wouldn't need many options.......poor, very poor, unbelievably poor 😂😂

Whitestar55 · 07/07/2022 11:23

The importance of clear dictation is so overlooked isn't it. On the website they state that dictations can even be done 'on your Blackberry' anywhere, but it's the transcriber that gets the quality rating 😡

Meha5a · 07/07/2022 11:28

@Whitestar55 @Chrissols get a Fitbit - it gives you a vibrate to get up and walk around if your sat too long 😁

Gally123 · 07/07/2022 12:16

Does anyone know if it is still possible to take out your NHS pension when you reach 60? I was talking to a retired teacher yesterday and he was able to withdraw his pension at 60 and said he thought the NHS was the same, regardless of the fact that I have to wait until I am 67 (I think it is now) for my state pension. I will be 60 next year. Thanks.

danblack87 · 07/07/2022 12:20

@Whitestar55 today I am a 'slug' as you so eloquently put! Nothing is moving ... snail pace. I am going to hang on for another hour and other than that I am going out in the garden!!

danblack87 · 07/07/2022 12:26

@chrissols: We should have the option of rating too from our end 'please add button for diabolical or unintelligible'. LOL

danblack87 · 07/07/2022 12:28

@Gally123 : my sister has worked for NHS for years in nursing/admin/research capacity ... she is almost 57 and she has taken a part pension and now working only part-time!! Don't know how it works though..

Gally123 · 07/07/2022 12:31

@danblack87 - thanks, I will try and check it out further. I seem to remember options of taking lump sums or yearly etc.

danblack87 · 07/07/2022 12:36

ON the other comments I left NHS when Band 4's were to be down-banded Band 3 ... unbelievable ... The Trust took it upon themselves to release staff for 'saving money' with a pay-out. I took the money. I already had a lucrative business within the private sector self-employed alongside NHS (NO, I did not do private work in NHS time). Then I took on Dict8. Over time the stress of private (due to health reasons) was too much so I let that go too. So, now solely Dict8 with a few sidelines as and when asked (rare). My experience is quite wide and far but I do not have the inclination nor physical capacity to get back into the arena
