Hi all, has anyone else started a new thread yet?

OP posts:
danblack87 · 07/07/2022 12:44

@Whitestar55 : my slugs prefer beer. I don't have any pets. Didn't know slugs ate 'poo' I am not a 'slug' fan BUT luckily these year I have not had to buy a few cans of beer to bury in the garden in a glass for them to fall into. Poor slugs; guess they know to say out of my garden!!!!

Workingfromhomenow · 07/07/2022 12:46

@gally123 I took out my NHS pension at 60. You can choose how much to take as a lump sum - there are tax implications though as you can only take a certain amount tax-free. Although mine isn’t huge as I only worked for the NHS for about 8 years a long time ago, I love seeing it going into my account each month (“free” money!!). You can check how much you will receive online if you get a login.

Gally123 · 07/07/2022 12:52

@Workingfromhomenow - I worked for about 24 years for NHS and in a school for 3 years before that so should have about 27 years in total, and at the moment I could do with some extra cash - and something to look forward to!

danblack87 · 07/07/2022 12:58

@Gally123 :My sister started as a nurse aged 17 for NHS so 40 years under her belt - not ready to completely retire but wishing to have some self-time alongside still being active in a reduced salary/stress-free role. COVID injection clinic became her thing - but these are rapidly being reduced so the will probably go for phlebotomy to fill in the times she wishes to work OR as a Practice Nurse within a GP practice (2 days a week)

Chrissols · 07/07/2022 15:25

@gally I took mine at 55, lump sum and monthly payment for life

Chrissols · 07/07/2022 15:26

@Gally123 last message was meant for you, don’t know how it missed 123 off

Gally123 · 07/07/2022 15:29

@Chrissols - thanks - I am going to seriously look into this, as I need a lot of work doing around the house, which delays with lockdowns getting tradesmen etc did not help and so all now need to be done now! Plus the rising costs, gas, electricity etc. And with no pay rises........I assume though when doing the dreaded tax form this counts as income and gets taxed.

Chrissols · 07/07/2022 15:31

@Gally123 yes it has to be added on your self return but it certainly makes life a lot easier, and knowing it’s for life is great. It goes up every year too

Whitestar55 · 07/07/2022 15:53

The dictation is dire today, the sooner I no longer have to put myself through this torture the better. If I had a good pension I'd claim it like a shot, but sadly I don't.

Does anyone use a foot pedal on a Mac laptop?

danblack87 · 08/07/2022 10:00

@Raisingboys22 : I don't use a foot pedal

danblack87 · 08/07/2022 10:01

Another dire day in a dire week ... nothing moving.

sijacks05 · 08/07/2022 13:41

Hi, I joined Dict8 3 months ago. Doing it to supplement my now part time role as Band 4 Med Sec with 24 years experience. I found the feedback quite ridiculous to be honest, it's so petty! Thankfully it's stopped for a while now 😄. How long do they give you before adding more specialities? Thanks for any advice.

Gally123 · 08/07/2022 14:49

@sijacks05 - I think normally it is about three months. If the feedback has stopped you might be able to ask esp if they are still advertising elsewhere for typists. It all depends on what specialties they have vacancies for.

danblack87 · 09/07/2022 08:02

@sijacks05 : I think I had to wait about a year before being added another speciality but then last year I saw they were advertising and asked if I could do one of those which I now have.

Chrissols · 09/07/2022 09:07

@sijacks05 it was about a year for me too, although it’s sometimes best to stick to what you have as when they add new ones it can stop your usual ones getting through and, as we all experience, it can block the flow of tasks, jamming an inaudible five for hours (if that makes sense)

danblack87 · 09/07/2022 11:03

@Cherryblossom114 I totally agree I have found that adding more than 3 can be more detrimental than sticking to 3. But, then again, you do have the option to opt out of a specialty ... I am sorting of think along those lines at the minute!!

Meha5a · 09/07/2022 11:06

agree with @Chrissols I took on a few and got flooded - couldn't afford the time/money especially as the dictation was so bad so I have stuck with the specialties I know to earn what I need.

danblack87 · 09/07/2022 11:12

Sorry @Cherryblossom114 that msg was meant for @Chrissols

Cherryblossom114 · 09/07/2022 12:16

@danblack87no worries, suffering at the minute. All my audible regular dictators seem to have all disappear...trying not to lose the will to live 💌

Raisingboys22 · 09/07/2022 20:57

danblack87 · 08/07/2022 10:00

@Raisingboys22 : I don't use a foot pedal

Oh that’s good. I think it slows me down not having one!

Chrissols · 10/07/2022 16:28

I couldn't work without a foot pedal, but it's what we get used to I'm guessing, I've actually never tried without.

Gally123 · 10/07/2022 17:41

I've worked without a foot pedal when mine broke and it was much slower, a stop/start kind of typing, having to manually rewind. I think it worked out about £5-£10 per day slower, so I think a foot pedal pays for itself in about two to three weeks. I Also, I do find even using cheap earphones better than none at all. Equipment is worth the expense.

Chrissols · 10/07/2022 18:35

@Gally123 I couldn’t work without a foot pedal or earphones, earphones do make it clearer

Gally123 · 10/07/2022 19:52

@Chrissols - I should have said I noticed the drop in earnings/productivity when my foot pedal broke and I was waiting for a replacement.
