Hope you all had a nice Xmas despite everything. My son, his wife and their cute dog came for the day and we Facetimed daughter so it was a lovely day in the end. My ex-consultant has emailed today and is going to do the reference for Dict8, I did sort of mention that I've applied to a second agency, but not heard from them yet. I don't much like this laptop keyboard but I'm liking it even less because I now have to hammer it to get any d to type.

Gally123 · 28/12/2020 17:19

@musicismagic333 - I have problems with my built in keyboard as well, esp when the weather is cold - last year the "A" and "1" stopped working and then it spread a bit down the left hand side, "Q" and "z" and this year it is "n" and "2"!.. My sister suggested getting a separate keyboard, which plugs in (like my mouse etc, forget the name of the socket), you can get keyboards for about £15 from Argos, Amazon etc. Helps a great deal esp as I had "A" and "1" in my laptop pass word and could not log in....

My laptop is a Dell and would never buy one again.

Chrissols · 29/12/2020 10:16

I have to type on a desktop, am useless on a laptop (although I do a few Tpro on laptop as most are VR).

Anyone seen any tasks today?

OP posts:
danblack87 · 29/12/2020 11:57

@Chrissols: There have been a handful of tasks this morning. I saw some on Christmas day and Boxing day too LOL but I didn't do any!! Hope you had a good Christmas. How did you get on at the Hospital prior to your car conking out?

Chrissols · 29/12/2020 12:01

Hi @danblack87, have been listed for surgery, but who knows how long the waiting list will be......he did say the waiting list at present was around six months but would try to expedite it and do it in three. I don't really mind how long it takes now, I am just happy to know that it actually will be sorted and I'm not stuck with it like this for good (that was my main fear)

OP posts:
danblack87 · 29/12/2020 12:04

@Chrissols: Well let's hope then it is earlier than six months. Snowing where I am this morning and rather cold BRRRRrrrrrrr.

Chrissols · 29/12/2020 12:06

@danblack87 freezing here too but no know, I love snow. We got a little bit on Christmas day which was lovely.

Whitestar5 · 29/12/2020 16:17

Just a handful of tasks on DICT8 today, and a sprinkling of snow this morning. I hope you get your surgery soon Chrissols.

Chrissols · 29/12/2020 16:25

Thank you @Whitestar5, to be honest I don't want it too soon......need to get my head round it first.

Not many tasks for me either today, but what I have had have been lovely and clear.

OP posts:
Whitestar5 · 29/12/2020 16:47

.....As for keyboards, I have a cheap, ageing one that works fine, but as usual and frustratingly, the most frequently used letters have worn off the keys.

If I used a laptop I would definitely get a standard keyboard, plus I don't like to be too close to the screen. I think you can plug them into a USB port.

Whitestar5 · 29/12/2020 17:14

@Chrissols

Thank you *@Whitestar5*, to be honest I don't want it too soon......need to get my head round it first.

Not many tasks for me either today, but what I have had have been lovely and clear.

Oh I see, I understand, you need to weigh up the pros and cons of surgery. Perhaps you could discuss it further with the surgeon if you are unsure? x
Chrissols · 29/12/2020 17:40

Oh I am sure as the pain it has caused is tremendous, there’s just never a convenient time is there. Plus, I will be in a hospital 100 miles from home for a week so don’t expect visitors 😥😥

OP posts:
Gally123 · 29/12/2020 18:25

@Chrissols under COVID restrictions you may not be allowed visitors even if the hospital was at the end of your road.

The air quality in hospitals at the moment is not very good, while I am sure you are in pain, it is better to have an op when the situation is a somewhat better.

Chrissols · 30/12/2020 10:02

@Gally123 yes I thought that about the visitors, in which case it would be fine as I wouldn't feel like a 'billy no mates' at visiting time. The consultant said he was aiming at three months but as the waiting list is actually six months I really have no idea. So long as it isn't May as I am hopefully on holiday in May.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 30/12/2020 10:09

@Chrissols - where are you planning for your next holiday? I am looking but nothing booked yet; I normally book February time but after this year I am thinking about taking a short break May time and then my usual holiday in September.

Chrissols · 30/12/2020 10:21

@Gally123 I have booked Tenerife so fingers crossed, booked whilst there are still some good offers to be had, am also looking for October as like a bit of sun back end of the year. Where are you thinking? I'm not sure where to book in October, Turkey seems to be the cheapest but don't know whether I fancy Turkey.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 30/12/2020 10:42

@Chrissols - I had a lovely holiday in Turkey a few years ago, went on a coach trip for 2 weeks touring round both parts (European side and Asian side). I am thinking of Northumberland in May (Hadrian's Wall, Holy Island etc) or Isle of Man and then maybe the Channel Islands in September.

Chrissols · 30/12/2020 10:45

@Gally123 I may try Turkey, I just need to know the 'party places' so I can book well clear of them...... I love Jersey, my brother used to live there so I used to go three or four times a year. Going back to Turkey, which are the quieter areas would you say?

OP posts:
Gally123 · 30/12/2020 11:23

@Chrissols, it was an organised tour, starting in Istanbul and then to places like Ephesus, Troy, Cappadacia, Gallipoli and seeing lots of mosques, the Hagia Sophia, Roman ruins and Troy etc and back to Istanbul. I went with a company with other 'tourists' being mainly American, Australian, South Africa etc and stayed in some rather nice hotels (unfortunately, I cannot afford their prices anymore) so I don't really know the other areas where the young people go. Perhaps a travel agent can advise where to avoid? Or look at brochures to see where the popular places are.

Chrissols · 30/12/2020 11:57

@Gally123 that sounds fab. I am definitely not one to sit by a pool or on a beach, I like to see things, so although not wanting to be in a party area, I do not want to be too remote either.......don't ask for much.......

OP posts:
Gally123 · 30/12/2020 12:05

@Chrissols- the good thing about such tours is that with Turkey not only are all the trips, entry fees included but also most of the food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) so no time wasted trying to look for suitable places. I went with Insight, but other tour companies I have used you could look at for ideas etc, Jules Verne, Riviera, Travel Editions.

musicismagic333 · 30/12/2020 14:07

Ah holidays. I watch Place in the Sun all the time, not because I want to buy somewhere - even if I did have a spare £80,000, think of all the holidays that would buy. No, it's like Majorca looks so nice, haven't been there for 40 years, and other parts of Spain they've featured. Never fancied France before but some of those little towns look gorgeous. Getting itchy feet, not been away since end of February and now we would have been just back from a couple of days in London after Xmas.

Chrissols · 30/12/2020 14:18

Has anyone been to Menorca?
