Looking for people from the previous thread that closed as must of been full?

I've emailed her but she's away until next week. What equipment do you use? I've just got my son's old laptop. I hate the built in keyboard so would definitely get a normal one. I guess headphones and a pedal of some sort?

Gally123 · 22/12/2020 12:53

@musicismagic333 - wait till you sign up to DICT8 as once you have access to their website they list which foot pedals work better with their system and also give details of a couple of places that give discount to DICT8 typists - I got my Phillips pedal through one of these and it was a bit cheaper than Amazon or ebay.

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 13:35

I have my laptop (Microsoft programme); I use the keypad controls rather than foot pedal as I find it easier - I used to have a Phillips foot pedal but it failed and then I just got into the habit of keypad (rather than more possible tech probs) and wouldn't change back now. I have a separate standard 'microsoft' keyboard though as I cannot get on with the tiny laptop keyboards LOL

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 13:35

My daughter says I am 'a dinosaur' Hmm

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 13:44

@Gally123 is right though. Wait until you are signed up it maybe that WeType have a different foot pedal, etc??

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 13:47

@musicis magic333: I used to have headphones too but as live on my own I find they are not necessary so don't use them.

Gally123 · 22/12/2020 13:52

I do use ear phones but buy ones that cost less than £5. I had some that were really clear and cost 99p but I trod on them!

musicismagic333 · 22/12/2020 14:06

Thanks guys. Almost getting a bit excited about working from home!

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 14:38

@Gally123: Do the £ shop sell them Xmas Smile!!

Gally123 · 22/12/2020 14:45

@danblack87 - that was where I bought the nice pair that I trod on. I went back but the next pair I bought were rubbish and returned them as the sound only worked in one ear. I am currently using some I bought from Asda for about £3.

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 15:17

@Gally123: Grin

Chrissols · 23/12/2020 09:47

I applaud anyone that can use the small headphones.......I have to use the huge sound cancelling ones as with some of the dictations being so bad it's the only way I manage to get by.

Car went bang yesterday........went to Blackburn Hospital and within five minutes of setting off home it conked, RAC had to rescue us.....alternator gone just before Xmas 😥😥

I am shocked how little work there is today, I expected there to be loads! Was it busy yesterday?

Gally123 · 23/12/2020 10:55

@Chrissols - sorry to hear about your car. My niece recently had her car driven into by a teacher in school car park, so she is not too happy. My niece works in IT there.

As to work it was okay yesterday, not great, however I remember last Christmas Eve there was nothing, I waited and waited, finally gave up about 4 pm, just as a few trickled in. Expecting to do more work for TPro tomorrow.

Chrissols · 23/12/2020 11:08

@Gally123 thinking of giving up and getting a taxi to do the food shop with having no transport now......dont fancy doing it tomorrow. I have been sent loads of work by another company, but kind of lost the will now 🙄🙄🙄

OP posts:
Gally123 · 23/12/2020 11:15

@Chrissols - I did my last main food shop yesterday morning at 8am. Might go out tomorrow for a couple of bits, I understand the shops are expecting to be quiet tomorrow (one of my sisters works in Sainsburys). I am lucky that my shops are local within walking distance (Aldi and Sainsburys).

My application with WeType is going ahead nicely. I did a typing test on Monday and have a phone call booked for next week to discuss further. Not sure that they pay as much as DICT8 as use a different system but more than I get paid for VR with TPro, and they are England based, so no losing money on the exchange rates. Fingers crossed.

Chrissols · 24/12/2020 11:40

Merry Christmas for tomorrow everyone.......been a tough year but we are all still here 😀😀☃⛄⛄⛄🎄🎄

The same to you all. Doing the turkey crown tomorrow but just started my gammon in the slow cooker. Got too big a one and it only just fitted. Phew! Doing the red cabbage in a saucepan. Daughter and partner in London so that's two less which is a blow because he eats a lot of meat and now I don't need so much.

Gally123 · 24/12/2020 12:32

Happy Christmas everyone, and a Peaceful (and prosperous New Year).

I must admit I feel really sorry for all those truckers stuck in Dover far from their families; especially as it is due to be cold again tonight. Not much of a celebration for them. I hope some of them make it home.

danblack87 · 24/12/2020 13:40

Merry Christmas to all the Dict8 transcriptionists out there and best wishes for a brighter New Year with plenty of work!! Wine Xmas Smile

Whitestar5 · 24/12/2020 14:44

Merry Christmas to everyone, hope we all win a share in the lottery jackpot, so we can retire from this Grin best wishes x

Whitestar5 · 28/12/2020 12:13

I hope everyone had a good Christmas..........but back to work and.....no tasks so far today (probably a bank holiday as Boxing Day was a Saturday) and I didn't win the lottery! Just wondering, is there any work on T-Pro today?

Chrissols · 28/12/2020 12:35

@Whitestar5 great Christmas here, hope yours was too. Plenty of work in Tpro still, about 1800 tasks i think. I've kept having a peak on Dict8 and not seen a single task, which is unusual as normally on a bank holiday there are still one or two. Probably be really quiet all week now as it's bank holiday again on Friday

Thanks Chrissols, my Christmas was quietish but nice. Tpro might be the way to go then, if I can get through the selection process!
