Chrissols · 19/12/2020 01:48

Struggling sleeping, logged on...54 tasks (didn’t pick any up)....two minutes later 25 tasks......obviously some nocturnal transcribers 😵😵

@Chrissols - once a few years ago when I had a problem I typed all night and then went to bed for a few hours at 8 am. Another time when we had workmen outside drilling the road etc for emergency water repairs that started at 10 pm I did a couple of hours typing as they were making too much noise for sleep (why do men always communicate by shouting at one another?)

Those were the days when DICT8 had work!

danblack87 · 19/12/2020 11:06

@Chrissols: Glad to hear you have been a busy - I did see a lot of work but then I was otherwise engaged (typicalo). Hope all goes well at Blackburn next Tuesday Smile

danblack87 · 19/12/2020 11:27

@Gally123: way back about 2/3 years ago I did a couple of nights too - when I was not sleeping - I don't think I would do it now as I am at the laptop all day long!!

musicismagic333 · 19/12/2020 12:40

Hi
I've just retired as a medical secretary. Have just applied to Dict8 and WeType. I must admit I'm a bloody brilliant typist but absolutely crap with IT and am a bit worried about that side of things.

danblack87 · 19/12/2020 13:48

@musicsmagic333:
I am a complete technophobe in all things but I find Dict8 easy to navigate (did from the get go really). I have been working for them at least 10++ years so you should be okay. Anyway, everyone on the forum is really helpful and should be able to point you in the right direction!! Welcome to the team should you be successful ... I didn't think Dict8 were taking anyone on at the moment but it is a while since we have had an update. Good Luck!!

Gally123 · 19/12/2020 14:31

@musicismagic333, I am not very technical either and often have to ask my niece to help (usually with things like setting up foot pedals if I cannot manage it although I did first go with DICT8 and only had problems when I bought a new laptop), however once you get started it is okay; all things are a bit strange to start with.

I agree with @danblack87 that I do not think DICT8 are taking anyone on at the moment but you could try T-Pro - they are recruiting but due to the volume of applications it takes a while to go through. They are based in Ireland and pay in Euros direct to a bank account but there is plenty of work checking voice recognition, which is not too bad; I don't find the Irish accents too strong.

Thanks for mentioning WeType - I have just put in a quick application!

musicismagic333 · 19/12/2020 22:28

I just put in applications on the spur of the moment, so no idea if any of them are taking on new people, but we will see. Thanks all for your encouraging remarks about the IT. I did look at T-Pro but they seem to need fixed hours and I really want to be more flexible. I think WeType want people to work at least four hours a day Monday to Friday which I'm sure I could manage if I can do that in the afternoons and evenings.

Chrissols · 20/12/2020 13:33

HI @musicismagic333, I work for Tpro but do not work fixed hours, in fact I do very little for them as I tend to prefer Dict8. They have not grumbled.....yet.....about how little I do so it may be worth giving them a go. There is always plenty of work with them which is a bonus as often Dict8 has none.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 20/12/2020 13:52

@musicmagic333 - I agree with @Chrissols - plenty of work with T-Pro. They do not mind what hours you work. They mention that they like people to do a minimum of 150 letters a week, which I work out as 30 a day for Monday - Friday. The most I have done in one day so far I think is 45 letters and the least is 15 (with 5 at the weekends). I do the work whenever I have time - morning, afternoon or evening. If I think I am not going to get the minimum number done - I just select a few short tasks of 20-30 seconds and that soon bumps the number up! They are quite flexible.

I am trying to keep working for a UK based company as well though for tax reasons.

Chrissols · 20/12/2020 15:00

I have never done the 150 a week.........am lucky if I hit 150 a month to be honest but they don't seem to mind. I find Tpro a little boring if I'm honest as it's mainly VR and I would rather type. So far this month I have done 70........and won't be doing any next week so in all will be under 100 for the month.

musicismagic333 · 21/12/2020 13:12

Hi all
Thank you for your replies. much appreciated. Is VR just listening and correcting what the computer has put? I had to do that when they first started digital dictation in my last job and I found it really boring. I too much prefer actually typing. I now need to get a reference for Dct8 so I hope one of my consultants won't mind doing that.

Meha5 · 21/12/2020 20:02

Had plenty last week although loads of letters where the person dictating just used ums and ars instead of words and ones going on for and then wanting to change the whole bloody letter 😴 !!! Some of them just have no idea what they are talking about and me I'm just typing along to what they say regardless if it makes sense or not🤣🤣🤣

Gally123 · 21/12/2020 20:22

@Meha5 - that's the beauty of when DICT8 decided to instruct us to type exactly what was said and not to paraphrase (not that I did much, but sometimes I tried to make the letter sound better English), not having to bother as to whether it made sense or not speeded things up (and passed the buck to the secretary).

AlternativePerspective · 21/12/2020 20:35

Apologies for crashing this thread as I see that you are all established here. But the thread title caught my attention.

I used to be an audio typist among other things and I am desperately looking for work. I am visually impaired so the route back into work is a difficult one, but if I could do something like this then it would be a god-send.

Can I ask, where is the link to this site of which you all speak, and what are their pay rates like?

Cheers

musicismagic333 · 21/12/2020 21:58

Can you literally type what they say? I'm just thinking about all the time I spent altering my consultants letters to sound better (without changing the meaning obviously and they always knew) and that to get paid more by Dict8 you need to just type as much as possible.

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 09:59

@musicismagic333: Yes, it is type as you hear but you must add notes to the 'Notes Box' if something is unclear/you are unsure + add messages to the secretaries at the other end if they are dictated. Clearly, if something really does not make sense then it should be queried. I do alter certain anomolies, i.e. 'They was seen' to 'They were seen', make words plural or singular depending on the nature of the dictation without using the notes box. Names which are not spelt out should be typed as heard, 'phonetically'. This will all be made clear to you when you are signed-up. You do not get paid for typing in the Notes Box which sometimes can be a real stressor Shock !!

musicismagic333 · 22/12/2020 11:08

I'm waiting on my consultant to come back off leave. I haven't seen her for over two years so hoping she'll be ok to give me a reference for Dict8. Not heard anything yet from WeType.

danblack87 · 22/12/2020 11:44

@musicismagic333:
Are you not in a position to call/e-mail your Consultant to see if she would send a reference?
