Civil Service Pre-Employment checks- how long?!

Hi,

I’ve currently been waiting 8 weeks to receive a formal offer for the Home Office. I have completed the Security Vetting questionnaire which now shows as completed on their site.

Any idea how much longer I should expect to wait? I applied for this job a year ago! It seems like it’s no secret but their recruitment process seems so clumsy!

Anyone? Thanks!

Do you know how long until after the SC have been completed I would expect to receive my email explaining checks are satisfactory.

I have been going through the same thing. I applied for a role within the home office in February and I’m still waiting. This has been the longest and the most stressful recruitment process I’ve been through in my life.

Everyone is saying they have done their CTC check online through a portal, I had to send loads of forms off through the post and through email. I am wondering if everyone done the forms through the post and then had to do the CTC online afterwards or whether it is the same checks but mine was done by post and others was done online through a portal?

ChristineG75 · 05/10/2018 15:52

@Naturetree i also had to send off forms via post and online i have now also completed CTC through the link on the portal..i was provisionally given the job on 8th June. Hoping will get start date soon

RocaRoca · 05/10/2018 15:59

Thanks alot. Cheers

Naturetree · 05/10/2018 16:11

Ohh ok, I sent my paper forms off on 14th August and haven’t heard anything back yet, not sure how long it should take from then to receive the CTC link?

Dollondon · 05/10/2018 16:20

@Naturetree I sent my papers off in July and received my CTC link late August

ChristineG75 · 05/10/2018 16:42

I sent my papers off 11th June..received my CTC link 24th September although i was told it was sent to me on 22nd august..had to get the team to escalate and send it out again. Not been a very straight forward process at all

Naturetree · 05/10/2018 17:38

Thank you! This thread has been a dream come true. I will let everyone know when I have an update

Once the email is received saying security has been cleared..how long til the start date is offered?

Polarbearflavour · 08/10/2018 20:19

Does anybody know how long security clearance (SC) lasts for? I left my job in March this year and I’m applying for jobs that require SC.

The MoD is sooooo slow! Applied for a job on 20 August. Interviewed last week and no word on whether I am successful or not yet even though they said they would make a decision by early afternoon on the interview day. Only 3 candidates!

MonsterRehab23 · 08/10/2018 22:44

Christine, I waited around 3 weeks, however I did have to chase them up. I think it really depends when the next ‘group’ of training starts. I also got a new starter form emailed confirming your offer and includes: your start date and time, salary, office location and line manager.

Dollondon · 08/10/2018 23:01

Monsterrehab23 how long until after you saw complete on CTC did you receive that email ?

MonsterRehab23 · 08/10/2018 23:28

It was 4 weeks I think.

I never checked the security portal as I couldn’t remember my login details, however I received an email attachment from nsv? to say clearance was granted around early September. I then received new starter email on 4th/5th October.

I have found the recruitment process stressful though. I did also receive other job offers from the civil service in this period and I didn’t know whether to accept or decline because I hadnt heard anything from this offer. I ended up emailing recruitment several times after CTC clearance to ascertain the status of my application so I could sort childcare.

If CTC is complete I’d say maybe 2-4 weeks then. Fingers crossed Smile.

Dollondon · 08/10/2018 23:44

Thank you love.

Yes this process is the most stressful process ever.
I’ve declined so many other job others and I’m literally on my last leg.

I just hope I start in November because Christmas is round the corner & it isn’t cheap either

CAG75 · 09/10/2018 08:26

My online portal said completed exactly one week before i received the email saying it was all cleared and CTC granted hoping start date will follow soon

Hill7878 · 09/10/2018 20:35

Normally they last for 3 years.

CAG75 · 11/10/2018 11:33

Finally got my start date today....at last!!

MonsterRehab23 · 11/10/2018 12:11

Congrats CAG75, good luck in your new role.

Roomba · 11/10/2018 12:15

It can take a very long time indeed for checks to be completed and for start dates and training to be coordinated. I waited over six months to start (although this was back in 2009). After five months of waiting, a woman phoned me to enquire 'if I was still interested' in the job! She seemed surprised when I said YES, I've been ringing you weekly to chase up a start date for months now!

Polarbearflavour · 11/10/2018 13:29

Still waiting a week after interview, fearing it will be a no. Sad

Dollondon · 11/10/2018 13:33

Does anyone have a contact number for someone I can speak to in the home office to chase up my application.

This wait is ridiculous and it seems like only the people chase theirs up seem to be getting a start date etc

MonsterRehab23 · 11/10/2018 15:33

If you go through the candidate pack that is attached to your online application, there will be an email contact you can email. When I contacted them I asked if there was a number or email address of someone that could confirm the status of my application. It was only then that they came back with a start date. Good luck.
