Civil Service Pre-Employment checks- how long?!

Hi,

I’ve currently been waiting 8 weeks to receive a formal offer for the Home Office. I have completed the Security Vetting questionnaire which now shows as completed on their site.

Any idea how much longer I should expect to wait? I applied for this job a year ago! It seems like it’s no secret but their recruitment process seems so clumsy!

Anyone? Thanks!

Hi, how come the training is in Leeds?? When did your SC come through to when you got a start date? I cleared nearly 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything since? I am also going to be in bootle .....

Spinsaunaswim6 · 20/05/2019 17:42

Hi Ayns 1981, my SC was complete around 8th April but when I emailed BAU I learned that my prev employer had not returned the reference checks so I chased that up and got the pre-employment checks complete message on Friday plus a request to pick a suitable course date which is in Leeds. The Southport course is not until September. Are waiting for pre-employment checks still?

Ayns1981 · 21/05/2019 15:25

Hi no I passed my SC 2 weeks ago 😣😣 I have emailed BAU a few times now and there has been no reply - and I don’t have any other contact information

Spinsaunaswim6 · 21/05/2019 17:53

Hi Ayns 1981 I used [email protected] and quoted my application / job reference and they replied quite quickly. It's another department that actually does the checks. Hope this helps you.

Ayns1981 · 22/05/2019 18:03

I HAVE A START DATE!!!!!! Whoop whoop!!! 8th July 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Spinsaunaswim6 · 22/05/2019 22:23

Ayns 1981 It's good to see that you are sorted. Is that the course date?

Ayns1981 · 22/05/2019 22:34

Yep I can’t wait 😁😁

Any news for you yet?

Spinsaunaswim6 · 22/05/2019 23:40

Yeah confirmed for 8th July in Leeds. I'm really looking forward to it!

Ayns1981 · 23/05/2019 08:06

Oh yeah haha you’d already told me that haha

Are you going to be in bootle then yeah? I’m in the capital - wanna swap 😖😖

Chevonn · 08/06/2019 11:01

Hi everyone who is waiting here is a direct number for the Government Recruitment Service 02074518383 . The number they don’t want you knowing . Hope this helps

FranSam · 11/06/2019 09:37

This all sounds awesome. I've had a provisional offer and just sent off my paperwork for security checks. I had no idea it takes months 😣
Patience is a virtue though 🙄

Hibasaeed786 · 01/10/2019 09:25

Hi I received my a provisional offer at the end of may for border force officer. I then completed all my checks and The security was all cleared by the start of July and I was told I would be contacted shortly for a start date and I’m still waiting for a date!! Has anyone else experienced this?? I’m not sure what to do as it’s been nearly three months

AshleyTr · 31/10/2019 15:30

Hi guys,

This is not a relationship or dating question

I’m kindly ask you for advice because it’s been 6 months deciding which path should I take and as of today I’m still undecided. Giving me your advice would be a big help.

So I just recently graduated last May and I’m now working at a job which I don’t really like. The benefit really doesn’t outweigh the cost and I’m not having a work life balance because we are leaving the office at 12am and have to get back by 7am. What is worse is we are not being paid well. So I’m definitely leaving my job this month.

My mom just told me that it’s better to learn something new and not just to work 24/7. She told me that she will let me decide whether to take law and stay in my country or to pursue a master’s degree abroad and I should make my decision by December

I’m actually having a hard time which path I should take because every option has its pros and cons. I’m actually deciding whether to find a job opportunity abroad or to stay in my country and work here while studying law. The reason why I wanted to go abroad is because I feel more free when I’m with the people who are different. I would feel less judgement because some people really woudn’t understand why you’re doing something unlike when you are in your country where you have the same belief with others and you are more likely to be judged. It’s like siblings with the different gender are less likely to fight compared to the same gender. You understand? Also, it’s because working there could give me more cash inflow. Getting International currency because of my job could give me more cash if translated to my country which I could possibly give more to my parents and I will pursue a master’s degree there. The things that I didn’t like about this is that I would be separated from my family especially my parents. They mean so much to me especially my mom and going abroad will left me thinking and wondering how they are. They are already on their 60’s and I should do my best to be always there for them right? I dunno and I would not be able to do that If I would go abroad.

On the other hand, If I chose to stay here and pursue law while working. A good advantage for that is that I’m also going to become a lawyer which both of my parents are. It’s nice because I was primed by myself, my friends, relatives that in the future I’m going to be a lawyer. And staying here and working means that I will be there with my family to be there for them. Of course I know what it feels if you are already a parent and your son is not with you side right? specially if you’re a senior. But the disadvantage is that, I would not be able to help them financially because every employees here in our country is very very low and if you’re lucky you could make a good living for yourself only especially if you’re just a startup. Also, taking passing the bar exam is less likely to happen because of the small amount of passing rate around 17%. Getting a Master’s degree abroad is more doable.

My brother actually told me that the first one is the better option but my friends told me the the second option is better

What do you guys think? if you are in my shoes, which path should you take?

boothroyd · 11/01/2020 12:10

Hi everyone. I received a provisional offer almost 6 months ago and this week my NSVS application reads as "completed". does this mean I am good to go?

daisychain01 · 11/01/2020 16:30

Yes @boothroyd, complete means they have passed the application.

You should hear from the original recruitment team who contacted you during the interview process. If you have their email address you could proactively contact them, as it has been quite a few months to get your clearance so it's worth giving them a nudge. Well done!

boothroyd · 12/01/2020 16:45

Thank you @daisychain01 ! I will give them a call. :)

RocaRoca · 29/04/2020 20:41

Hello guys, unrelated question please.
I work full time in the civil service, can I work full time elsewhere or just part time? The potential second job is working from home. Thanks

daisychain01 · 30/04/2020 04:11

So you're already employed FT in the civil service, and you want to take on another FT job elsewhere?

Check your contract of employment. I'm sure it will have a clause in there about not taking on other work. You'd have to at least seek clearance from your Delivery Manager, but I can't imagine how you'd have capacity to take on another FT job. If you've got nothing to do in your CS job, then you can't expect to continue doing no work, getting paid and drawing a salary elsewhere in Government time!

In short, no.

gmarg · 23/10/2020 13:16

Hi

Sorry to add to this thread

I got a job offer from the home office in August and they have been completing my pre employment checks since 20th August. I emailed the mailbox what they provided for an update around 2-3 weeks ago. They have stated that they need further ID off myself but has to come off the vacancy holder. I messaged the vacancy holder around 2 weeks ago with different ID and I am yet to receive a reply!! And I’ve had no communication with what is taking so long!

It’s making me feel that the job isn’t going ahead possibly! Is this normal??

userchange7643 · 10/06/2021 13:40

Hi all (if anyone is still around) I am resurrecting an old thread rather than starting a new one. Job offer 5 weeks ago, completed SC form 4 weeks ago, portal says "completed" (has done a while), counter signatory contacted straight away, have complete 1A of the transfer form. Not heard a peep in weeks, chased this week and they are 'looking into'. I know this is standard but my goodness it makes me want to cry, the uncertainty of it all. For various reasons I've had to tell my current (public service) employer and I'm really struggling with the limbo. They must lose a lot of candidates in this process.

Doorhandleghost · 10/06/2021 18:18

Are you transferring between departments?

LeoVania · 15/09/2023 19:24

Hello everyone,

Hope you’re currently employed 😂 and thriving.

I have just completing my CTC form for a role in the Home Office last week, for the AO customer service delivery apprenticeship and one week later I just checked the status of my application which was once saying in progress has changed to completed.

That’s really concerning me because I’ve heard it takes ages to be completed and I haven’t heard anything from them just yet.

The fact that it took so little time to be completed makes think that I might have failed my checks. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Thank you everyone.

youveturnedupwelldone · 15/09/2023 20:40

Have you had a letter from UKSV yet? They write to you with the outcome of your CTC and you usually get it a day or so before the employer does.

LeoVania · 16/09/2023 04:32

Hi
I haven’t received any correspondence yet.

LeoVania · 20/09/2023 22:57

I got the letter on Monday. Now waiting on the employer…
