Taskmaster: if you don’t use ‘correct’ pronouns you’re a philistine…

…Who’s stuck in the past. To be ‘cool and curious’ you need to use non- biological sex based pronouns. And this is about a ‘certain generation.’ I mean I’m 32 and think it’s bollocks.

plus, as a bonus, ‘if you don’t like me, fine, as long as you use my correct pronouns.’

ffs

What are her preferred pronouns?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/10/2026 22:52

Who is Chloe Petts and why do I care?

ColdOut2025 · 24/10/2026 22:53

Life is too short, and too beautiful, to argue about 'correct pronouns" with a fully grown woman. I can use whatever pronouns ivwabt about you: I may choose to do so,but not because you call me names, but out if politeness. And even if I do, it doesn't change the fact you have stared so much at your own navel you have fallen in

Notonmyland · 24/10/2026 22:55

DH watched a bit the other day and said it was shit. And that was the correct pronoun to use for taskmaster and the correct adjective.

StealthTroublemaker · 24/10/2026 22:57

Are her pronouns dick/head?

PimblePumble · 24/10/2026 22:59

FFS, her, not you.

roseyposey · 24/10/2026 22:59

Who or what is Taskmaster?

Asking as a woman of a certain generation.

SapphireSeptember · 24/10/2026 23:00

How can you be a radical feminist, queer, and use they/them pronouns? Radical feminists don't agree with gender woo woo nonsense, and I fucking loathe the word 'queer' when used in that context.

(Edit, waiting for a screenshot to be approved, which is what I'm ranting about.)

Oh, there it is!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/10/2026 23:01

If any of that made sense she'd might have a point. As it is it's just random words thrown out at random.

roseyposey · 24/10/2026 23:02

Petts has described themself

Painful reading

Asking as a woman of a certain generation.

Used to be a fairly decent TV series with ridiculous tasks set by Greg Davies. I'm not sure if it's still decent, I haven't watched it for years (because I don't have a TV.)

throwaway3749574 · 24/10/2026 23:13

I’m really enjoying watching Chloe on taskmaster, I find Chloe really funny and quick witted and is the most committed/dedicated contestant I’ve seen for a while. I can’t get too excited about it but I do ‘notice’ the pronouns and they do grate every time I hear (normally Alex) use them and I feel for him as feel like he must be worried about getting it “right” plus I do genuinely sometimes think he is talking about more than one contestant when he says they.

Justme56 · 24/10/2026 23:28

No one uses third person pronouns about themselves so it always falls on everyone else to do the work. Imagine making demands on people when you have to do zilch.

FunPartyIdeas · 24/10/2026 23:34

I struggle with this tbh. I am very much a feminist (as Petts claims to be), but if anyone failed to address me as she/her I would feel that they were erasing me as a woman.
Can someone explain?

Screamingabdabz · 24/10/2026 23:36

I like her. She was great on taskmaster and very funny when she appeared on ‘have I got news for you’.

Guess that makes me an old philistine stuck in the past 🤷🏻‍♀️

DryIce · 24/10/2026 23:42

I like taskmaster and Chloe has been great on it.

I do disagree with her on pronouns, though. I don't feel it is because I am not curious, or cool, or that I want to be stuck in the past. I do understand the concept of gender identity, I just don't believe in it. A bit like religion.

I don't see what the problem is because on her Wikipedia page she says she uses She/They. If I was ever to talk about her I would happily use She because that's what it says on her Wikipedia page.
She also needs to reflect on her ageist attitudes with the idea that people of 'a certain generation's gonna be stuck in their ways'.

testmatchspecial · 24/10/2026 23:47

I don’t think she knows what the word Philistine means.

Bella Ramsey on Celebrity Traitors was scrupulously they-ed by the other contestants, even though she’s said she doesn’t mind if people don’t use they/them.

A lot of people seem to get confused about this. Not least Chloe Petts, who goes by 'they' pronouns, yet commented on a recent episode of TM that something (I forget what) made her "happy that I'm a lesbian".

Stupid me for being under the impression that a lesbian was something that only an actual female woman could possibly be... yet now I've been educated that somebody who is not a boring old female woman, but rather describes herself as 'gender non-conforming' can also be a woman who is sexually attracted exclusively to women.

Also, according to Petts' page on the fully 'inclusive' Wikipedia, she uses she/they pronouns - which I'm not sure means either that she's happy for people to refer to her as either 'she' or 'they', or that 'she' remains 'she' but 'her' has to become 'them'?

I'm so glad to have been able to clear that all up for myself and everybody else.

Chloe's entirely correct. Learning which pronouns people use is very easy, and just basic respect. Same as learning to pronounce an unfamiliar name properly rather than just call someone what you want (something which used to be incredibly common, e.g. Martin Offiah's name was mispronounced for decades by TV pundits.)

Getting angry because someone's different to you, only announces your own limitations. The world's a beautiful, complex place and none of us know everything. So listen, learn, educate yourself.

I've been quite enjoying her on this series of TM. It's been one of the weaker series compared to how brilliant it usually is, and her and Richard Ayoade are the only bright spots really.

I do find the "Chloe's up next, lets find out how they did" stuff grating though. I did with Mae Martin a few years ago as well. Chloe is a woman, she calls herself a lesbian for gods sake. This non-binary stuff is a load of bollocks.

Indeed - whilst it's not as stark and dehumanising as calling a human 'it', 'they' is only used to refer to a singular person when that person's identity is unknown, or to a generic person who could be either sex (e.g. "the customer must present their receipt before they can be given a refund").

There is clearly a human 'demotion' implied in referring to a specific person whose sex is obvious as 'they' - it seems as cold and strange as it would be to put your DH or DW into your phone contacts with his/her full name, including surname.

Coming from you that's absolutely hilarious. Have you been at the fortune cookies again?

Um, I actually do this. I knew two other [Insert Firstname ]'s when I first met DP, so she went in with her full name. 20 years later she's still in there as a full name. Worse still one of the other [Insert Firstname ]'s (the first one added to my addressbook) is a firstname only.

Maybe I should rectify that before DP notices.
