Sandie Peggie: Employment Tribunal, associated legal claims, and related matters - thread #67

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

A second Employment Tribunal, Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing, has just been heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and ended on Thursday 1 October 2026. It is possible that a decision will be handed down before Christmas of this year.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against three senior managers who were witnesses in the first Employment Tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

Is using "the changer" rather than changing room a national/regional phrase, just I have a vague recollection of another poster using it

I'm going to be away. Because this thread is filling so quickly with, well, all kinds of posts, I can't be sure it won't get filled before I'm back. Therefore, I've reluctantly started the continuation thread now even though we're only on page 25.

If I don't return in time, I'd appreciate someone being so good as to post the link to the next thread in the final pages of this thread.

Back in the 50s I was brought up on warm Weetabix before school in winter.

You poor thing. Did you have therapy? My Dad puts his cornflakes in the microwave. I don't know if it's because he's Scottish but whatever the reason, it's a nasty affair. Cereal is a race against time affair. All implements ready before the pouring of the milk. If one must move to a seating area, quick step. Otherwise plant your feet for a sturdy base and eat, eat, eat. I thought about inventing a bowl that would allow you to mix your cereal and milk bit by bit as you eat, such is my disgust at soggy cereal.

You don't need a lockable door if the men stay out.

Or indeed to get changed in a welfare room which might be needed for its intended purpose or a storeroom that is used to, you know, store stuff.

It's a long way from using a representation of NHS nurses in the 2012 opening ceremony to showcase how valued and respected they are to telling them to lock themselves in a fucking cupboard to get changed so the more important, less replaceable bloody attention seeking man can get his validation.

Women's things are for women, if a section of men decide they don't want to use mens things they need to get in the bloody cupboard not take the thi as that don't belong to them.

Humble apologies for my contribution to the untimely need for a new thread.

Don't worry about it. It's just a phrase the threads are going through.

😂 It's a good thing we're all different, isn't it? I like Weetabix warm or cold, but in my old age, I actually prefer my porridge (DH makes excellent porridge) lukewarm at most. I'll get my coat...

I had a time critical, emergency c-section over a nursing staff shift change. I would have been pretty bloody furious if it had been delayed because the staff had to get changed one by one in cupboard rather than using the space designed for them to get changed in. Or if I ended up with an infection because someone had changed in loo and their scrubs were germ laden as a result.

I like warm Weetabix (and all generic variations), as long as it's firm, not soggy. I do not like soggy cereal. Texture is key!

Bowl of dry cereal. Glass of ice cold milk.

Spoonful of cereal, glug of milk.

It's the only way I know of currently.

How do you deal with menstrual flooding in a store room? You can’t wash your hands for a start.

No need to get your coat, warm weetabix or porridge here too😁🥣

Was Readybrek just a Smash-like version of porridge? I remember my cousins ate it and it seemed a weird texture to me.

Milk in the bowl first, cornflakes on top helps keep at least some crunchiness to end.

Smash is dehydrated potato-based product. Ready brek is just ground up oats, I think? For reasons I cannot recall I made my own years back, from porridge oats I ground in my Kenwood chef blender until they were fine enough to make relatively instant porridge gloop.

Yes, I wasn't terribly articulate there - I meant is Readybrek to porridge what Smash is to mashed potato. An ersatz Just Add Water approximation?

Or is it something separate of its own.
