Graham Linehan on Jon Ronson's new book

My ex-friend Jon Ronson may be a case study in the corrupting toxicity of trans ideology. An interesting read.

His book chapter about me stands as an indictment of him and the cowardly social class of people who refuse to confront uncomfortable truths

Call it confirmation bias if you will, but reading the two pieces side by side, I know which one sounds the more convincing.

SylvanMoon · 29/08/2026 22:18

Graham's article is very good. An indictment of these cowardly "friends" so many of us have known.

nauticant · 29/08/2026 22:19

I think Ronson's knowingly ironic style combined with I'm not mainstream but I'm on the Right Side of History is probably coming to the end of the road in terms of current fashions. He'll continue to do well with his target audience of progressives which might be enough for him.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 29/08/2026 22:33

thanks for posting this OP. Linehan's piece in particular is really interesting

Linehan: 'These few trans people behaving very badly over here are representative of all trans people'

Ronson: 'It doesn't work that way'

Linehan: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE BAD TRANS PEOPLE!!!!'

🤪

It's straight out of the Piers Morgan 'DO YOU CONDEMN HAMAS?' book of forced denunciations for not eagerly participating in scapegoating otherwise you are a heretic!

Jon Ronson seems to be an abject coward. Trans ideology is exactly the sort of thing he should be investigating given his interest in modern culture yet he seems unable to see it at all.

moto748e · 29/08/2026 23:45

I'm sure he sees it well enough, @Lovelyview . He just doesn't want to risk going there.

Of course he sees it, he just chooses to ignore it.

Lovelyview · 29/08/2026 23:53

If he knows Graham is right then why did he put a whole chapter in his book about it? You'd have thought he wouldn't go there either.

Slagging off Graham from a distance has become one of his crutches.

I liked when he went on the Fifth Column podcast where he and the hosts spent an hour and a half berating Graham and laughing at how mad and crazy and nuts he is.

Then after Trump won, the Fifth Column did a podcast where they finally confronted the trans issue and well I never, turns out they all agree with Graham's beliefs pretty much 100%. Then went back to never mentioning it again.

Pathetic cowards all of them.

moto748e · 30/08/2026 00:58

Yeah, all those liberal commentators that I used to like back in the day in the Graun, it's interesting to see those who've stood up, and those who haven’t.

IwantToRetire · 30/08/2026 01:48

Thanks for the link.

Compared to some more recent articles Glinner seems more calm. I am not begrudging he any past articles where his raw emotion shows through.

But I am sad that he keeps on having to write his story, his life, because grossly hypocritical people, some of whom were once his "friends" still do not hesitate to drag his name in.

Not unlike JKR being dragged into some facile tweet or whatever, because someone wants to be noticed.

They are all loathsome.

Glad, even if it is down to the Telegraph (again) to give him the right to reply.

I suspect that sometimes it must seem like ground hog day.

Whatever steps he is able to take to move forward, all the sniveling sheep just have to try and make out they were in the right - and still are.

To address one of the very few factual claims in Transparent's post, "thousands of kids" having surgery is definitely accurate. There's a good summary of sources and estimates here:
https://www.medicalbrief.co.za/thousands-of-transgender-us-teens-had-double-mastectomies/

The most recent estimate there is between 5000 and 6009 double mastectomies in the US alone between 2017 and 2023, with at least 50 of them being for children under 12.

And that's before taking into account the recently documented massive widespread insurance fraud in the US which has led to gender related medical interventions being recorded under the wrong diagnostic code: https://www.hhs.gov/press-room/hhs-report-insurance-coding-sex-rejecting-procedures-minors.html

Thousands of transgender US teens had double mastectomies - Juta MedicalBrief

A Manhattan Institute report has revealed that “gender-affirming” mastectomies for patients under 18 are more common than thought, and that at least 50 of the 5 000 to 6 000 double mastectomies in the US from 2017 to 2023 were in patients under 12. Whi...

And just in case anyone reading this is thinking that maybe all these surgeries are necessary medical interventions for very distressed children, read this recent medical malpractice case where a New York jury awarded a young woman $2m for failure to obtain consent or explain risks: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/03/health/gender-surgery-malpractice-varian.html

So Ronson covered up for a murderer (Dana Rivers) and a rapist (Karen White) in his reporting and public comments? What a fine track record in journalism he has. I wonder if someone should invent a ‘smug, white male contribution to public life’ award – there’d be so many contenders.

JellySaurus · 30/08/2026 07:08

Graham Lineham appears to have been one of the canary in the coalmine activists, and the vitriol towards them was perhaps the strongest. Trans activists were having a grand old time getting their standards of care accepted, and their self-ID (in some places) legislated, their "anti-bullying" education in schools and their Sex Discrimination Act changes through nice and quietly, under the radar. Heartwarming stories in the "news" about men finding their inner woman. A few brave souls saw what was happening and asked questions. These people are the stunning and brave. And examples were made of them. I'm so glad you shared those links @impossibletoday, we need to remember the people who sacrificed so much so early to wake us all up to this stuff.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 30/08/2026 07:25

Thanks for the link, Ronson comes across as a smug, irritating git.
As a PP mentioned he failed to mention

"But that’s not all he left out. In November 2016, one of the Camp Trans organisers, a man named Dana Rivers, murdered two Michfest regulars and their adopted 19-year-old son, then set the house on fire."

That's an appalling dereliction of duty for someone who 'identify's' as a journalist.

GL is better off not having this man as a friend anymore.

Racist, islamaphobe and mysogynist?

Have you evidence? Or are these words being used to influence opinion and not materially true?

You are entitled to disagree with him about anything you like, or dislike him...but that does not make him racist, mysogynist or islamaphobic.

Do a more thorough search and actually look at the data.

Most chest-reduction surgery in the US (inc. minors) is done on cisgender men (and cis boys). It's classed as gender-affirming surgery.

Echoed. Worth noting on this point that the activist Freddy McConnell commented after she gave birth to one of her children that nobody had explained to her that getting a double mastectomy would mean she would be unable to breastfeed her children if she went on to have any. FM would have had that operation at the age of 28, some years after graduating from the University of Edinburgh. If someone as old as that and with that much education can fail to grasp such an obvious point, what chance do young teenagers with body dysmorphia have?
