“who got too embroiled in the culture wars, and it completely took over his life”
@Datun I find it infuriating as well and I am trying to work out what it is about this situation that causes the reaction above, where it really does take over your life.
I’m actually reluctant to post on this thread, because the knives are out and all kinds of lies and smears are already in play. I know that in posting, I open myself to the same, but like Graham, I have lost family over this and it has blown my life apart.
I’ve never in my life been an extremist. I’ve always been middle of the road moderate and I stumbled onto Mumsnet FWR from AIBU, just to see what it was all about.
So how did I get here? Very much as Graham describes elsewhere, I assumed this was simply a situation which would get sorted out if we simply spoke up. The demands transactivism makes are so unreasonable that it seemed obvious they couldn’t withstand even a small amount of daylight.
I campaigned openly, in my own name, because I could. My job situation was safer than most. I am still employed, so I haven’t lost as much as Graham has, though he seems to be getting some of that back.
I never expected that, years later, my children would cut me out of their lives because of it.
I think the attacks on this thread and elsewhere are part of what makes it impossible to walk away. They are clear, gaslighting, narcissistic attacks, fully intended to stop us from speaking out. My conscience tells me that, if I let them stop me, I would be a coward.
So here I am, locked into this horror, where my children are now the flying monkeys for a group of narcissists, telling me that what I believe is unacceptable, but it’s not something that I can turn around.
The aims of transactivism, which are that gender identity should take the place of sex in law and that anyone claiming to be the opposite sex must be given whatever medical treatment they desire as well as being treated as if they are the sex they claim in all circumstances, are so outrageous that they cannot be allowed to stand. And I guess that’s the crux of this. If I say nothing and do nothing and the world goes along with this insanity, then I will be partly to blame.
The whole thing is mad, and yet it’s really happening. I hope some kind of sanity and peace will return, but I don’t know if my family will ever be mended. And that is the worst thing I am having to endure, yet there is no way out, other than through.
