The Spiked article actually misrepresents the Sky article, which does a deeper dive into the data and concludes "Our estimates conclude that Afghans are closer to three times more likely to be convicted of a sexual offence than someone born in the UK". NB though age is mentioned, i.e. recent migrants are more likely to be young and criminally active, neither seem to analyse sex, though it is mentioned in Farage's figures - there must be more male immigrants than female; presumably this has been taken into account?

More and more I find the threat, especially to women, troublesome and worrying. To generalise, the Left view all immigration as all fine and dandy; the Right disagree and want it reduced or stopped. On the other hand, Burnham's proposal to place asylum seekers in middle-class areas implicitly shows that he knows that they are problematic: "We cannot have a situation where it's only the poorest communities in the country that receive all of the dispersal of refugees and asylum seekers." If the refugees and asylum seekers are beneficial to the UK, which is promoted as the Left-wing view, then he would be saying that the rich/middle class areas will benefit from his plans, rather than saying they need to share the burden. I’m surprised not to see anything about the landing at La Manga yesterday on MN, but I suspect the usual suspects would be all over it with “ nothing to see here”.

Apparently Spain are taking 500 women from Ceuta to protect them from being raped/SAd.

Spain recently allowed amnesty for immigrants - not sure how much safer these women will be.

Trump showed this can be stopped if they want to stop. It might be distasteful and mean but illegal immigrants need deporting and legal immigrants who commit crimes need to be deported too (as do family who covered or didn’t report their criminal family member).

If I went to Spain and committed a crime (theft, shoplifting, assault etc) I’d expect that be arrested, locked up, deported at my own expense, have my passport marked so I can never return. I was a guest and I behaved badly. If I got a job in the USA or Japan or China and after 5 years was laid off I would expect to have to return to the U.K. or get another job. Why should Chinese people support me for a month, year or lifetime?

I do not understand how we got to the point that every unemployed person gets to stay and receive benefits. At some point we will run out of funds - and then what?

Well that's fair enough. It's not rape and assault if the men are just venting on an innocent third party who had nothing to do with what they've been through.

I agree. It’s a shame they are traumatised. I am sure millions of people are traumatised around the world but we cannot save / support everyone. At the minute English kids are struggling to access support . Adults have to pay for private counselling, including victims of rapists. We are releasing rapists early from prison. We cannot afford to be the worlds saviours. These blokes who cannot identify themselves, arrive illegally and people who overstay visas and commit crime should not be our concern.

As for the implication traumatised men are disrespected and therefore why bother acting with humanity - really? So it’s okay if your mother, sister is raped because a man is disrespected. Dos that include disrespected English men? Or only foreigners? If an English man who has been raped or groomed or stabbed and not received the counselling and justice he deserved is it okay if he rapes someone? If not is it because you hold English men to a higher standard?

Our liberal way of life needs protecting or we will lose it. Women dressing how they like, girls playing sports and getting an education, being able to jog at 7am, freedom of speech, gay rights, our ability to fund disabled people and the elderly is worth protecting. These values matter.

I no longer walk at 7am - it’s unsafe to. I am adapting my habits due to people out government have invited to stay. I don’t want them here and the public have voted time and time again for less immigration.

If you don’t want a HMO next door to you or your elderly relative it’s really important to petition, write letters to MPs etc to have these men deported.

As for the hand wringing - poor men it’s the British people’s fault they attack them - do you defend all rapists and murderers? Or does your income or investments depend on immigrants continuing to come here?

My view: It's also a function of overpopulation and competition for resources. If that isn't tackled ( I've seen a few articles showing that emancipation/education of women is shown to lower birth rates) it will get exponentially worse.
It used to be a tenet of green politics but their doorstep rep now claims it's racist wrt comparative levels of consumption, without acknowledging that consumption tends to rise with development, which is in theory desirable and a big pull factor to developed countries.

That’s because education of women goes alongside a civilised country. If women get to chose if and when they have children she will do so alongside the opportunities and resources available. If education is removed from women alongside rights, and those two things run side by side, then men get to dictate if and when that female has children and as we can see from history and current day examples, the females get younger and younger and less and less educated.

I agree it's what many here would consider civilised if we had to think about it. However, civilisation can be a subjective definition, as can education I think.

I read that it was also observed in China during it's one child policy that femicide of babies skewed demographics and led to lack of brides/trafficking/issues with elder care(!) and the lone (preferred) boy children were often spoiled leading to poor health outcomes. Forewarned should be forearmed.

Nevertheless, I suspect complacent liberal societies are getting a harsh awakening when competing for resources with people who are genuinely used to fighting for survival or otherwise, and currently the most vulnerable are bearing the brunt.

I think history shows us that there are issues with having a large influx of refugees/asylum seekers into a country -- these impacts are not always benign or neutral, as much as people might like to claim. It can cause demographic shifts and destabilise a society. Look at Lebanon's civil war for example. A significant factor was an influx of Palestinian refugees into the country after the Arab-Israeli War that exacerbated existing sectarian tensions.

IMO asylum seekers (especially male) should be placed in specialised secure accomodation while their claims are processed, not housed in the community where they are near schools, play parks etc and they are essentially left to their own devices. That causes way too many issues.

We need to put this in context though.

I work in the area with the highest number of HMOs in the country. The hotel next to my workplace (owned by the same woman who owns the land our plant is on) has been a migrant hotel for years. There's another next to one of our main jobsites, which the residents have unsuccessfully petitioned to have closed - people are avoiding that street, causing a loss of business to the newsagents which are mostly run by Indians. My employer has also had to stop sending female engineers due to repeated sexual harassment and a risk assessment determining that they couldn't be adequately protected.

Meanwhile, if a single man who is a UK citizen presents to the council as homeless he will often be given a sleeping bag and tent if he's not considered high priority (most aren't).

How would you feel as somebody born in this country who's paid taxes all their life? Stuck in a tent with no sanitation or running water, while over the road there's a hotel full of people who came here illegally and haven't paid a penny into the system (some of whom are sexually harassing British women)?

Well said, this sums up the problem.

News today that Iran and Pakistan are sending 6m Afghan refugees back to Afghanistan. Absolutely terrifying for the women and girls in particular, but is there hope that by changing the population to include more Taliban detractors, hopefully they can find the resolve to overthrow them? I’ve always thought by letting people settle here - mainly fit young brave men - we’re basically housing all those with the balls to confront the Taliban and making life even worse for those left in Afghanistan. Where’s their resistance movement? Where’s their opposition movement? Oh yes all relaxing in hotels and HMOs in Europe etc. it just perpetuates the dire situation in their home countries and leaves particularly women and girls at risk.
I think asylum status needs to be redefined to consider people affected by them leaving - we’re fucking those countries over by letting so many men flee.
If they can risk their lives and walk for weeks on end starving to escape to open, egalitarian societies then they should use that bravery and determination to help set their own country on a new path to freedom and equality. Child marriage? FFS go home and stop your fellow countrymen doing this to your country’s girls. Taliban must be vastly outnumbered now - they need to be overthrown, slung in a hole and buried or stoned or whatever means of execution they like to dish out to others.

The Taliban have literally billions of pounds worth of equipment left behind by NATO forces. Thousands of machine guns, thousands of humvees, trucks, howitzers/mortars, and apparently now recon drones.

They've had a military program in place for the last few years and have trained recruits in maintaining equipment and mechanic duties. They're no patch on a modern military force in terms of all round capability but they're extremely good at guerilla warfare.

By contrast, the civilian population is made up of scattered tribes who don't have access to much in the way of firearms. You think they stand a chance when the US couldn't defeat the Taliban in 20 years of trying?
