Article on the threat to UK women from Afghan immigrants

SwirlyGates · 17/08/2026 10:41

"The statistics clearly show that Afghan nationals pose a disproportionate threat when it comes to sex offences. Last year, Sky News’s data and forensics unit – using annual population survey data from 2021 and Met Police figures – found that, for Afghan nationals, there were 59.2 sexual offence charges per 10,000 across England and Wales. The corresponding figure for UK nationals was 2.7 offences per 10,000 people."

https://www.spiked-online.com/2026/08/17/we-need-to-talk-about-afghan-sex-offenders/

The Spiked article actually misrepresents the Sky article, which does a deeper dive into the data and concludes "Our estimates conclude that Afghans are closer to three times more likely to be convicted of a sexual offence than someone born in the UK". NB though age is mentioned, i.e. recent migrants are more likely to be young and criminally active, neither seem to analyse sex, though it is mentioned in Farage's figures - there must be more male immigrants than female; presumably this has been taken into account?

More and more I find the threat, especially to women, troublesome and worrying. To generalise, the Left view all immigration as all fine and dandy; the Right disagree and want it reduced or stopped. On the other hand, Burnham's proposal to place asylum seekers in middle-class areas implicitly shows that he knows that they are problematic: "We cannot have a situation where it's only the poorest communities in the country that receive all of the dispersal of refugees and asylum seekers." If the refugees and asylum seekers are beneficial to the UK, which is promoted as the Left-wing view, then he would be saying that the rich/middle class areas will benefit from his plans, rather than saying they need to share the burden. "Blackpool, and other communities ... have had to take more than their fair share of asylum seekers," she [immigration minister Anna Turley] added. "That's put a huge burden on local communities and created real civil unrest." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c204d4z1gg8o

TL:DR Are male immigrants, especially illegal ones, a particular threat to women, and if so what can be done?

We need to talk about Afghan sex offenders

Welcoming unvetted men into Britain from a deeply misogynistic culture is putting women at risk.

The culture of Afghanistan is far right.

Yes.
But what that has to do with Indian takeaway owners apparently voting leave I don't know. Unless the poster thinks all Leave voters are far right. Which is hugely unfair in lots of ways.

@MarcTheGenderSkepticthis is because the UK are doing trade deals with India and and part of the trade deal allows people from India to be able to travel and work in the UK more easily

As a woman I couldn’t care who is coming into this country legally. As a woman and a mother of a daughter I do care about undocumented migrants, who come from countries where women have zero respect or rights. We are seen as nothing to them. It really hammered this home, when I saw an AI video where the roles had been reversed in Afghanistan and men were wearing full hijabs and being told they can’t go to school and they can’t go out without a woman. To be honest it was shocking and somehow western women are just meant to accept this way of thinking as a cultural difference! The government need to do a hell of a lot more to convince me they’re protecting women and children from undocumented migrants. If they can’t confirm their identities why are they allowed to roam freely?

Dressing racism up as feminism is really shit.

The lack of empathy on this thread is shocking. Most people seeking asylum are doing so as a direct result of European imperialism and terrible foreign policy decisions in recent years.

For eg The Taliban and their supports are not coming to the U.K- it’s young men who worked with the British and are now at extreme risk if they stay. What do you expect then to do??

SidekickSylvia · 18/08/2026 18:45

It's not a lack of empathy. It's having more empathy for our own daughters and granddaughters than for the men seeking asylum. It is not morally wrong to be concerned for our own children, and to prioritise them. Twenty years ago it was considered a perfectly reasonable view.

I have more sympathy with people who take/took a consistent line against UK foreign intervention and also don't want to give asylum to the people who worked with the British etc. it feels harsh but it's consistent. One way of looking at it is why should women pay the price for foreign wars.

It's the people who cheered on said invasion, and who even wanted British troops involved in Iran (Farage, Badenoch I think Lowe) that are also against giving asylum to men who fought in Afghanistan that hurt my brain. Likewise people who use fears about immigration to the UK as a reason to support Israel and Americas bombing of the Middle East. Those two positions should be incompatible with each other.

I do think there's a discussion about how you deal with increased aggression in people who have been in wars. Especially those who have been exposed because of their role in or supporting out armed forces. There's a separate conversation about British citizens fighting for foreign governments and coming back traumatised or having absorbed toxic attitudes to rape. But it's as if we can only discuss a small part of that or we are soft lefties. (Ignoring that the "tough on immigration" Right have done more to encourage it than the soft left).

The lack of empathy from those who prioritise young, fit men who can muster thousands to pay to criminal gangs for passage and who leave their female relatives behind to die or be raped (almost certainly the case in Afghanistan) over women, more in need of refuge, is staggering.

As well as the lack of empathy for the countless children and women raped in this country and Rhiannon Whyte who was murdered and whose son is now without a mother.

It's almost as if it's not really about empathising with those young, fit men at all, but attacking the rights of women in the UK (and elsewhere) to safety and freedom.

Because a certain demographic of those who profess to care about refugees don't actually give a shit about those most in need of refuge - about the women and girls dying and being deprived of all human rights in Afghanistan - no access to education, healthcare or work.

Are you/ your daughters feeling threatened by asylum seekers? Have you got examples?

Thats a genuine question? I’m trying to understand the threat people feel.
I live in a big city and I genuinely never feel at threat. But would be very interested to hear others point of view.

And also appreciate the original point still stands- proper statistics are important.

I don’t think it’s worth the crimes that happen. Rhiannon Whyte, the Brighton rape, the elderly man, Belfast

It’s a basic requirement of the government not to have this. No one deserves to be the way to find out who is a risk and who isn’t. It’s not oh never mind.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 18/08/2026 19:43

It’s the complete lack of action in regard to illegal migration that’s starting to insence me. I am completely sick of them failing to acknowledge it as a problem and fail to show they are doing anything about it. It’s like being gaslit constantly. They are asked direct questions about all sorts of things and they just will not answer them, or they fudge their answer, side step it, skew the data, refuse to accept the data etc etc. They are also the epitome of champagne socialists, wafting about in their elite bubbles and blinkered to societal problems. It’s like watching your house burn down whilst rearranging the furniture.

They could possibly get away with the bluff if the economy was doing well. Back in the day when people had disposable income to enjoy themselves you could just about tolerate the benefit fraud and deterioration of services, as you could still afford to go out at the weekend and have a nice meal or have a few drinks. Now we’re in an era where everything is expensive and getting moreso. Constant tax increases to pay for the UK feckless alongside the global population of feckless that constantly trickle in.

The Emporer is no longer just naked, he’s standing stark bollock naked on a massive stage whilst singing karaoke and juggling fireworks, and yet still we’re supposed to pretend we see nothing of note.

Really?

"Most people seeking asylum are doing so as a direct result of European imperialism"

This is a totally ludicrous position to take.

"For eg The Taliban and their supports are not coming to the U.K- it’s young men who worked with the British and are now at extreme risk if they stay."

Really? Please have a read of my earlier post regarding Sky News where they totally debunked this idea.

According to the gov.uk website, over half of all asylum seekers arrived on rubber dinghys or hiding in lorries.

"Just over half (52%) of asylum seekers in the latest year arrived in the UK through illegal entry routes, typically on small boats."

Around 40% of asylum seekers were people who had entered the UK legally and then, when they overstayed their visa, claimed asylum.

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-march-2026/how-many-people-claim-asylum-in-the-uk

The top six purported nationalities claiming asylum were:

Pakistan
Eritrea
Iran
Afghanistan
Bangladesh
Sudan

"...a direct result of European imperialism"

Hmm, let me think, when was the last time that Pakistan or Bangladesh might be said to have been under the yoke of "European imperialism"? Would that perhaps be 1947? What have these countries been doing since then?

Eritrea was an Italian colony up until 1941, Britain then administered Eritrea until 1952. After this date, the United Nations decided that Eritrea should be a part of Ethiopia. Again, what have these countries been doing for the last 70 years that their inhabitants now need to live here in the UK?

When it comes to Sudan there has been a civil war going on there since 2023. However, the last time that Britain was there was in 1956. The fact that Sudan is having a civil war in 2023, more than 65 years later cannot be placed at the feet of the UK.

With Iran, I do totally agree that anybody who escaped the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and/or who have sought refuge from the Iranian government since then who have murdered tens of thousands of people living there do likely have a right of asylum. However, if they have a right of asylum in a country nearby then it would be more appropriate to take up that right of asylum in a nearby country. Also, this is nothing at all to do with "European imperialism"

.

Other cases can be very different. Take, for example, the plight of the Indians expelled from Uganda in 1972. Around 50,000 people of Indian descent were expelled by President Idi Amin. Uganda has been an independent country since 1962.

At this time, many of these people were UK citizens and had a right of abode in the UK. Around half of these people immigrated to the UK (quite a few ended up in the city that I lived in) and many went on to be very successful. But this wasn't due to "European imperialism", rather it was due to the action of the African rulers of that state.

How many people claim asylum in the UK?

Yes, I can give a recent example. While visiting relatives, I was in their local children's park with my daughter and her two year old who was playing in the sand. The park is fairly new and very well equipped, but there was only one other child there with his grandparents. Four young men of African appearance were leaning on the wall watching us. I spoke to the other grandmother and she told me that hardly anyone uses the park now, that it's a shame but the park is only used by dads/grandads and children, that you never see a mum taking her children there any more, unless it's with their dad. She said the men used to be inside the park and sit on the roundabouts, until the mum's stopped going.

We all left a few minutes after the men arrived. Just silently left, because who knows who they are, or what they're capable of. They weren't doing anything illegal, but they must know how intimidating they were. 25 years ago, as a young mum in the UK, I never felt I needed to leave a park because a group of young men were watching my toddlers play. I appreciate that this is a small thing, but it's indicative of how much change we have accepted in 25 years.

Mapletree1985 · 18/08/2026 12:25

This may be a stupid question, but - when these asylum seekers arrive here, what sort of cultural training do they receive? We can't expect a human mind that has been operating according to one set of rules since birth to immediately grasp the new rules without being told and instantly make the switch. A traumatized person will find it even more difficult to learn new ways of being.

Does anyone teach them what is acceptable behavior in our society? Especially with the regard to the rights of women? Or do we just let them loose on the streets expecting them to know automatically because "it's obvious"?

Not a rhetorical question; I'm genuinely curious.

Just look up how many people have been attacked while trying to help in this kind of way, or working in the related accommodation. Even more shocking when you expand that into Europe.

But if you bring the country to its knees spending millions on illegal migrant young, fit, men many of whom are not refugees but economic migrants, who you can't get rid of once here, you cannot help the women of Afghanistan.

Services are on their knees as it is. There are no routes to refuge for women in Afghanistan, in part because this government is prioritising routes that support criminal gangs making millions and men of dubious origin and intent.

Rhiannon Whyte's Mum has continually asked why these men aren't detained until it is established they're not criminals and not a threat to people already living in this country (both legal immigrants and native population). Rhiannon is the young woman killed by one of these men, a man who then went on to dance after her murder, then claimed he was a minor in order to drag out the court case. And as Rhiannon's mum has repeatedly said, he tried to escape and quite easily could have done. There are plenty of rapes where the perpetrators aren't identified and simply disappear. Those who are prosecuted and jailed are the minority.

Men wanking in parks, sexual harassment, all this goes without prosecution, it just makes women afraid to go out as in the playpark case above.

At this point I just think those in charge, Starmer, Burnham, simply don't care if women, the elderly, children are raped or killed, that seems the only logical conclusion.

Anyone coming via criminal gangs on dinghies should automatically be denied asylum and alternative routes opened up to those who have genuine claims.

EmeraldRoulette · 18/08/2026 20:47

@GreySkySummer Okay, if you’re curious, here is a little bit of Info though I don’t like to discuss it too much

I lived near one of these in 2016

The shopkeepers knew what there was to be scared of straight away, particularly any of who were open late. The three stores who were open late started to look out for each other because it was really problematic.

Most of these incidents occur late at night and some of my neighbours did admit that the reason they didn’t know about them was because they don’t go out in the evening

I still had a social life back in 2016. At one point there were so many local incidents, the management company discreetly told people that we must use the bus stop that was directly outside the building. There was another bus that stopped around the corner - also coming from Central London so generally you just get on the first bus that stopped near the building. In their words “these people will stab you because you’re there. You don’t even have to look at them funny. Please use the bus stop directly outside the building”. They didn’t magic those statements out of nothing. We were always in touch with the local police at that point. It wasn’t a great area so it was important to know what was going on every night.

The police were quite active at that time and they would do regular day patrols and just tell us to be careful and that there had been a lot of incidents of mugging, shoplifting etc don’t think they do that now, but perhaps I was early in facing the problem so that’s why they did it.

oh, and also I had a couple of drivers from the local taxi firm tell me it was a problem. We all know it’s a fucking problem.

I got followed. Other single women I knew in the area got followed. My parents got followed when visiting. This was particularly common in shops. I suspect they got followed as a couple because they were elderly and probably seemed like easy victims.

After I left, one day I got a message from my neighbour saying “ oh there’s been another stabbing, another load of police tape at the bus stop, I just eyerolled and walked past it, I must be losing empathy. Am I a bad person?”

I replied with “no, we just got used to it”.

Honestly, I don’t know if some people would just walk around with their eyes shut or if a lot of people are too scared to say anything because they think they’ll be accused of racism or what. But I do think if you are staying home in the evening, you will see a lot less of this. And some people really live in their own area without knowing much about what goes on outside their “little family” (that is particularly evident on MN).

If they didn't care, that would be one thing, terrible as that is.
They very well may care. But they care <more> about the so-called plight of those more unfortunate than any UK citizen as they would see it, women included.
And they <cannot> be seen to be/appear racist.
Anti racism is the religion of the governing class, and they'll do anything to promote it and not act/appear contrary to it.
Why do you think the Mirpuri rape/grooming gangs enquiry stays in the long grass, the societal scandal that it represents put on ice/into quarantine re action?
Duh, racism.
Right now, if Burnham Polanski Davey Swinney etc thought they could get away with pure open borders, they would.
It's what the left believe in, way above old fashioned stuff like reducing inequality or eradicating poverty.

Just to add

I get the sense that some posters are a bit shocked at the volume of incidents that are being reported now

There’s a huge number of incidents over the years that weren’t reported. It’s important to remember that. People out there who seem to be on their last nerve have been dealing with this for a very long time.

As I say, I’ve moved, but if one opens up near me, I will be really upset. And they are making it so that there is absolutely nowhere to go.

No one should have to deal with this. Absolutely no one.

@GreySkySummer

just a few that I’ve remembered by name, I found the murders of Wayne Broadhurst and Alexandra Mehzer particularly upsetting too. Sometimes things just upset you more on the day, don’t they?

and the victim of the attempted beheading in Belfast, wasn’t he volunteering with the man who attacked him?
