Article on the threat to UK women from Afghan immigrants

"The statistics clearly show that Afghan nationals pose a disproportionate threat when it comes to sex offences. Last year, Sky News’s data and forensics unit – using annual population survey data from 2021 and Met Police figures – found that, for Afghan nationals, there were 59.2 sexual offence charges per 10,000 across England and Wales. The corresponding figure for UK nationals was 2.7 offences per 10,000 people."

https://www.spiked-online.com/2026/08/17/we-need-to-talk-about-afghan-sex-offenders/

The Spiked article actually misrepresents the Sky article, which does a deeper dive into the data and concludes "Our estimates conclude that Afghans are closer to three times more likely to be convicted of a sexual offence than someone born in the UK". NB though age is mentioned, i.e. recent migrants are more likely to be young and criminally active, neither seem to analyse sex, though it is mentioned in Farage's figures - there must be more male immigrants than female; presumably this has been taken into account?

More and more I find the threat, especially to women, troublesome and worrying. To generalise, the Left view all immigration as all fine and dandy; the Right disagree and want it reduced or stopped. On the other hand, Burnham's proposal to place asylum seekers in middle-class areas implicitly shows that he knows that they are problematic: "We cannot have a situation where it's only the poorest communities in the country that receive all of the dispersal of refugees and asylum seekers." If the refugees and asylum seekers are beneficial to the UK, which is promoted as the Left-wing view, then he would be saying that the rich/middle class areas will benefit from his plans, rather than saying they need to share the burden. "Blackpool, and other communities ... have had to take more than their fair share of asylum seekers," she [immigration minister Anna Turley] added. "That's put a huge burden on local communities and created real civil unrest." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c204d4z1gg8o

TL:DR Are male immigrants, especially illegal ones, a particular threat to women, and if so what can be done?

We need to talk about Afghan sex offenders

Welcoming unvetted men into Britain from a deeply misogynistic culture is putting women at risk.

I work with many asylum seekers from Somalia and Afghanistan. They are all severely traumatised. The immigration system does not treat them with any humanity at all- it is not surprising the crime rate is higher in this group- why act with humanity when you’re not treated with it.

I also expect someone from Somalia would be much much more likely to be convicted that a white English man

The immigration system?

You mean the UK's immigration system or France's or whatever other country they have been to?

Victims of rape are traumatised from their experience too.

I have met several Somali refugees and most are nice people who want to escape hell on earth, work hard and make a home. But my late brother's best friend was attacked with a machete by a group of Somali youths many years ago and left paraplegic and without speech. His family looked after him with love for decades and my brother visited him often. Death released him. My brother still carried the guilt that the night his friend had been attacked he had no gone out with him. He hanged himself a month or so after the funeral, possibly not intending to die but as a cry for help, for he was deeply depressed - we could find no note. This has never affected my feelings about asylum seekers but sometimes I worry just a bit. People, but young men especially, from countries with little respect for women and where war has worn down sensibilities and moral systems are probably not ideal new recruits to our ship - at least not without a huge investment in education and acclimatisation.

A very valid point that both men and women can be at risk.
It's also relevant that it's interpretations of cultures/religions that can be an issue. Just as some Christians have threatened health centres that offer abortion in America.

I agree. We also need more commentators from across the political spectrum engaging with that data. The left seems to persistently make the mistake of refusing to talk about some issues, leaving fertile ground for the right (in its broadest sense) to monopolise the narrative.

Yes, precisely.

DebbieSavage · 17/08/2026 14:57

Indeed, a lot of these men are traumatised after facing thousands of miles trudging through countries that hate them just for having the temerity to exist with a different shade of skin. And then when they finally find sanctuary in somewhere like the U.K and Ireland, they often find that the men here are nasty to them and the women refuse to even give them a chance. This leads to a lot of internalised resentment that can regrettably spill out in unsavoury ways.

Until we learn to treat these people with the respect that all humans deserve, then nothing will change. It's really sad, I feel for them so much.

Yes. Absolutely. The left needs a complete reset. (I speak as a generally left wing person). While both left and right are guilty of jumping on bandwagons I feel more angry at the left for failing to engage with reality. Data is part of working out what reality is. I also blame academics and think tanks who prefer to cherry pick - or even fabricate - data to serve a political goal rather than taking the data and analysing it objectively.

the women refuse to even give them a chance

This thread is about migrant men convicted of rape. Are you seriously saying it's because "women refuse to give them a chance"? Are you confused, Debbie?

Women are not vending machines for sex, and no matter what their skin colour, incels cannot use the Equality Act 2010 to make women "give them a chance".

No, there is never an excuse for committing sexual offences against women. All I am trying to convey is that, when these refugees fleeing persecution end up seeking refuge in a country and the people within won't even consider them as human beings, then it's hardly going to ingratiate these people to our society is it?

Nonetheless, I would wager a lot of the women on this forum rightfully bemoaning the absolute state of modern British men would have a lot better chance of finding a decent partner if they widened their potential options somewhat. Many of them are amazing people who just want to be a part of a community that values them.

Even I, a fairly unrepented lefty with a fairly open attitude toward immigration and asylum (And a persistence annoyance at conflation of the two), am forced to type "Jesus".

I'm really not sure from the tone of this post whether you're being serious or satirical.

I have come across a number of accounts on X/Twitter that post things that leave me stunned, but then I realise that they are satirical accounts.

I haven't seen any of your posts before so I cannot tell if you mean this seriously or as satire on the positions that some people take.

Not sure what word you meant to use, but perhaps something other than "ingratiate". I'm not Uriah Heep (or his mother) and I have no intention of ingratiating myself to anyone. How demeaning!

No disrespect, but it's not our country's function to have to adapt to the war trauma of these men.
It's really too bad they're damaged, but they don't need to be damaged over here.
Would I have wanted to foist the shell shocked British soldiers of WW1 onto another country and allow their citizens to pick up the pieces? No.
When you add in their endemic issues with women, and then throw in serious mental trauma, it's unacceptable we're taking tens of thousands of them.
I've read reports from sexual health workers in the US where recent Afghan men have absolutely no control on their sexual impulses, and are violent with it.
More suicidal empathy from the West.

IdaGlossop · 17/08/2026 15:52

I am broadly centre left and always have been. This is what I think (and say) on this issue:

  1. The data shows there are greater levels of sexual assault by men of some immigrant communities than by British men (although they are a problem too)
  2. Successive governments have been asleep at the wheel over irregular migration for 10 years.
  3. We knew then that war, genocide and climate change were going to bring large immigrant populations to Europe from the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, and that the majority would be followers of Islam, which, in its more extreme forms, has values incompatible with those of the Christian-constructed West. That being the case, EU nation states should have begun then modifying European human rights law that has given rise to endless cycles of appeals when asylum is not granted.
  4. Some immigrants will bring trauma with them and their behaviour will reflect that.
  5. Therefore young men without documents should not be free to roam while they are being processed. They should be housed on Ministry of Defence estate and kept there until we know who they are and what decision we are going to make about them.
  6. Positive messaging about the contribution of immigrants who are working in the UK in the NHS, social care, education, hospitality etc should be pushed as one way of toning down the racist rhetoric from the right.
  7. I think face coverings in public places, for all reasons except medical or road safety, should be banned. (I said this at a local Labour Party meeting in 2005. If looks could kill....).

As with so much in government, issues are allowed to fester, and are only dealt with when crisis point is reached. However, virtually every Western European nation is dealing with the same issues. The price we are paying for this lamentable neglect is destabilised communities, the rise of nationalism and parties of the right which threaten the freedoms of everyone.

EvelynBeatrice · 17/08/2026 15:52

And if the statistics show that male asylum seekers from certain countries or certain religions are more likely to be sex offenders, then what?

The UK is obliged to accept ( some of them) under international treaties. So what do we do?

Is there any chance of some education being given or accepted? Training on our laws and cultural norms - a session on ‘myths’ about western women and male rights? Or is it the case that if you come from a medieval culture, you can never accept women as equal human beings. It’s hard enough for men in this country in this century.

I think they are being serious, you can see it in others on the thread. These men are they way they are always because of something else… because of war, because they are young and unsexed, because they are ‘mistreated’, because they are discriminated against. Because their morals and sensibilities have been dampened.

Or maybe they just didn’t have morals to begin with. I don’t think men are born with a natural respect for women. We work hard to bring up non psycho men in this country and despite that it doesn’t always work.

There is also a particular obligation to some Afghanis as part of the Afghan Relocation Programme. Some of these men are here because they helped the British on the ground during the war. The government, more specifically the MoD, know there will be future wars and future occasions where local help will be wanted. This will be harder secure without any guarantee of safety if it all goes tits up. So providing the opportunity to leave the country is seen as a necessity.

Being a cynic, I suspect the British authorities gave very few shits about the moral standards of the Afghan men who helped them when they were safely in Afghanistan 'merely' being sexually aggressive to local women. Maybe in future they'll take a closer look at who they work with. Although I doubt it, the safety of women comes very low down on the list of priorities. Assuming it makes the list at all.

There’s quite some way between being legitimately concerned for one’s safety and that of other women and having zero empathy for those fleeing persecution. Put your own oxygen mask on before helping others.

I always find it staggering that some have such low expectations of asylum seekers. If I was fleeing for risk of my life and was taken in, housed and fed, I’d think that I’d feel considerable gratitude and seek to obey laws and integrate as much as I could. I do wonder if the industry and charities that have grown up around asylum are fostering a sense of entitlement and therefore grievance.

Who's going to do the sexual etiquette training? We already have a shortage of therapy on the state for UK citizens. Is this going to be another case of Brits going without, and "new citizens" getting preferential access?
Afghan men shown to be amongst the worst perps for violent and sexual crime, how long do you think they need in therapy when they've been brought up in a society of hyper misogyny?
