In which Amnesty jumps the shark

A report on 'anti gender actors' from Amnesty appears to be a puzzling work of jumbled nonsense and overwrought fiction.

Either they completely fail to grasp what 'gender critical' means, or they are deliberately trying desperately to bundle it in with Xtian rightwing US organisations. Maybe both.

Trans activists have been accusing UK feminists of being rightwing Xtian US fundamentalist funded for years. Sometimes it's funny, more often it's just fucking tedious.

Anyway.

'An organised anti-rights movement targeting the rights of women and LGBT+ people is growing in the UK. Over 60% of the organisations mapped have emerged since 2017, the vast majority gender critical organisations'

What the everloving fuck do they think they mean, here?

Feminists 'target' the rights of women? In terms of - feminists have fought long and hard for the rights of women? Yes, well done, Amnesty.

Then they whang on a lot about abortion and well funded US rightwing organisations, including religious groups, etc.

And then ...

'In fact, gender critical organisations only account for 2.5% of total expenditure but have been remarkably successful in realising their agenda through strategic litigation and campaigning.'

Will you ever actually use your brains, Amnesty?

The list at the end should give them a wee clue. Dozens of feminist organisations, almost all listed as 'informal', yet lumped in bizarrely with massive US anti abortion groups.

Idiots.

From their recs:

'..institutional donors and grant-makers:

Improve understanding of the nature, objectives and activities of anti-rights organisations, including their impact at local level.

Strengthen due diligence processes to reduce the risk of funding organisations whose activities undermine human rights protections.

Fund the ongoing monitoring of anti-rights movements and organisations.'

Fund whom, Amnesty? Are you expecting people to shell out for this garbled pish? It's inaccurate horseshit. It's confusing at best, actively harming women and children at worst.

I mean do improve understanding, absolutely. Maybe try talking to a 'gender critical' feminist, for a start.

I’m a left wing feminist biological realist.

WrongKindOfFeminist · 10/07/2026 12:18

Well, Amnesty seems unable to understand that position.

Women must be sex positive, and cape for males, or they aren't allowed to be feminists.

On the list: Beira’s Place. A privately funded rape crisis centre set up by women that was needed because a man was running the local rape crisis centre.

On the list: Beira’s Place. A privately funded rape crisis centre set up by women that was needed because a man was running the local rape crisis centre.

And which the man running the ERCC was actively 'harming rape survivors' as was noted in the damning independent review. ERCC refused to even signpost women to Beira's Place.

They are actually pillorying a woman for opening a rape crisis centre and excluding males.

Amazing.

Amnesty - fighting for the rights of nasty men.

Amnesty also seem to have fingerpointed Trans Widows in that shite report which is...quite something.

IrnBruAndDietCoke · 10/07/2026 13:05

I just love that more people are finally seeing the manipulative lies of Amnesty for what they really are. How many other conflicts and situations are there where they have they messed up data, skewed facts and DARVO’d to their own advantage? Maybe people will apply this new knowledge to what this charity is saying about other things they campaign about. Because they haven’t just woken up one morning deciding to hate women and lie to their own advantage. And I hope this shines light on other charities where there is a vested interest in reinforcing a specific right-on world view and how they are a circle-jerk of self-referencing and cross-perpetuating lies.

Archive of the Herald article: https://archive.ph/ThYhe

I note two mentions of 'transgender people' not being included in female single sex spaces. I guess female trans-identified people don't even register, when of course they are included in SSS.

EasternStandard · 10/07/2026 13:09

It’s so bad. What a lack of basic understanding. It’s concerning.

From 2016:
https://www.amnesty.nl/actueel/female-refugees-face-physical-assault-exploitation-and-sexual-harassment-on-their-journey-through-europe

Just in case that link goes (my bold):
Women also reported having to use the same bathroom and shower facilities as men. One woman told Amnesty International that in a reception centre in Germany some refugee men would watch women as they went to the bathroom. Some women took extreme measures such as not eating or drinking to avoid having to go to the toilet where they felt unsafe.
“If this humanitarian crisis was unfolding anywhere else in the world we would expect immediate practical steps to be taken to protect groups most at risk of abuse, such as women travelling alone and female-headed families. At a minimum, this would include setting up single sex, well-lit toilet facilities and separate safe sleeping areas. These women and their children have fled some of the world’s most dangerous areas and it is shameful that they are still at risk on European soil,” said Tirana Hassan.
“While governments and those who provide services to refugees have started to put measures in place to help refugees, they must up their game. More steps need to be taken to ensure that refugee women, especially those most at risk, are identified and special processes and services are put in place to ensure that their basic rights, safety and security are protected.”

Female refugees face physical assault, exploitation and sexual harassment on their journey through Europe - Amnesty International

Governments and aid agencies are failing to provide even basic protections to women refugees traveling from Syria and Iraq. New research conducted by Amnesty International shows that women and girl refugees face violence, assault, exploitation and sexu...

This is so upsetting. I am presuming there will be some good programmes out there and Amnesty risk donations going because of this. Why are they trashing their reputation?

In the face of such nonsense, sometimes all you can do is create poetry. Here is my found poetry taken from the conclusion of this report.

I think the organisations on it that are existing charities should collectively petition the Charity Commission to investigate Amnesty for acting politically and outside the remit of their charitable status. Unless the legal action is some sort of class action, it would be prohibitively expensive for most of these grassroot organisations to undertake on their own.

Agree.

They may yet regret libelling Beira's Place in print, given it is funded by someone with access to excellent lawyers.

I didn't realise that MBM were actually on the list, I thought they were just challenging Amnesty on behalf of some other group[s] until I read their x post!

Wow, Amnesty have really poked the bear - MBM are great, they've done lots of good work on gender/women, and they are very well qualified to go after Amnesty and not let them off the hook.
