In which Amnesty jumps the shark

A report on 'anti gender actors' from Amnesty appears to be a puzzling work of jumbled nonsense and overwrought fiction.

Either they completely fail to grasp what 'gender critical' means, or they are deliberately trying desperately to bundle it in with Xtian rightwing US organisations. Maybe both.

Trans activists have been accusing UK feminists of being rightwing Xtian US fundamentalist funded for years. Sometimes it's funny, more often it's just fucking tedious.

Anyway.

'An organised anti-rights movement targeting the rights of women and LGBT+ people is growing in the UK. Over 60% of the organisations mapped have emerged since 2017, the vast majority gender critical organisations'

What the everloving fuck do they think they mean, here?

Feminists 'target' the rights of women? In terms of - feminists have fought long and hard for the rights of women? Yes, well done, Amnesty.

Then they whang on a lot about abortion and well funded US rightwing organisations, including religious groups, etc.

And then ...

'In fact, gender critical organisations only account for 2.5% of total expenditure but have been remarkably successful in realising their agenda through strategic litigation and campaigning.'

Will you ever actually use your brains, Amnesty?

The list at the end should give them a wee clue. Dozens of feminist organisations, almost all listed as 'informal', yet lumped in bizarrely with massive US anti abortion groups.

Idiots.

Oh the irony 🙄

You are evidently not as clever as you think you are.

You can't back out of that corner like that. Admit it, you completely missed the sarcasm, although it was visible from Proxima Centauri.

Oh, pal.

Maybe I should have added this gif for you to my post. Just to make it reeeaaallly obvious.

Lord, the TRA's aren't sending their brightest and best, are they.

12th July.

Thank you! Scotland on Sunday - I was just searching the Scotsman.

I see today's derailer has arrived - presumably a bat(shit) signal went out somewhere.

Back to the subject in hand, how interesting that the main AI has backed away from this bin fire at high speed. Presumably their lawyers are shitting themselves: "You've defamed an organisation run by JKR - a woman who PAYS for an entire litigation fund - as well as multiple charities known for having barristers on speed-dial, AND you took shots at some some lawyers while you were there? ARE YOU MAD?"

What is the post in response to? It seems to bear very little connection with the post it is quoting.

It's just a random ad hom attack. Not reality based. By now we are very used to them - I generally take it as a sign we are doing okay.

If a poster had a worthwhile argument, they'd have used it by now.

Did anyone count how many organisations Amnesty defamed?

Cause JKR has offered to fund any lawsuits.

Your sarcasm was noted, just characteristically inept. Hence my own (delightfully missed) response.

I know people of your class have a reputation but, seriously...

Do the Catholic Church ever take people to court?

I wonder why they didn't mention any other religions?

Its an interesting question. On here we are coming from the POV of feminists and child safeguarding, but it may be that some of those larger organisations are also not happy at how Amnesty attack them.

They may also not take too kindly to being deliberately conflated with some of the disparate organisations with very different aims and goals and values, for all we know.

It seems a good time to buy popcorn.

Was there actually a named author (or authors) on the report or was it something anonymously produced and signed off by AI UK?

FWS reference being listed on page 20 and screenshots I've seen list quite a number of organisations. Has anyone archived the report?

According to some posts on X I saw, the metadata indicates that the author or lead author is Chiara Capraro, Gender Justice Programme Director at Amnesty UK, LSE graduate, apparently in her 40s. I doubt very much that she had a lovely weekend. Her LinkedIn profile has disappeared.

I count 117 organisations. We're going to need more popcorn.

As an added bonus, I never even knew there was "SEEN on Campus" for university staff. I've been looking for a group like that for ages - cheers, Amnesty!

I still haven't read the whole blooming report! 😂

Is it just me or does it feel like the TRAs are just setting up better campaigns to advance the GC cause by the day?

I feel after Operation Let them Speak we are getting Operation Stand Back and Watch in Awe.

They're in go hard or go home territory - unfortunately for them, go hard means "Expose themselves for who they really are". So it's win-win really - keep it up, ladsGrin

Today's derailer is also busy on at least one other thread (on the mad, foot-shooting GLP poster 'campaign').

Perhaps it's just sharks generally he is attracted to.

Whatever, would be the usual waste of time engaging, IMHO.

nicepotoftea · 13/07/2026 22:26

I wonder if Amnesty understand the concept of the wheelchair space on a bus.

The idea that the right to use it doesn't apply equally to everyone.
