In which Amnesty jumps the shark

A report on 'anti gender actors' from Amnesty appears to be a puzzling work of jumbled nonsense and overwrought fiction.

Either they completely fail to grasp what 'gender critical' means, or they are deliberately trying desperately to bundle it in with Xtian rightwing US organisations. Maybe both.

Trans activists have been accusing UK feminists of being rightwing Xtian US fundamentalist funded for years. Sometimes it's funny, more often it's just fucking tedious.

Anyway.

'An organised anti-rights movement targeting the rights of women and LGBT+ people is growing in the UK. Over 60% of the organisations mapped have emerged since 2017, the vast majority gender critical organisations'

What the everloving fuck do they think they mean, here?

Feminists 'target' the rights of women? In terms of - feminists have fought long and hard for the rights of women? Yes, well done, Amnesty.

Then they whang on a lot about abortion and well funded US rightwing organisations, including religious groups, etc.

And then ...

'In fact, gender critical organisations only account for 2.5% of total expenditure but have been remarkably successful in realising their agenda through strategic litigation and campaigning.'

Will you ever actually use your brains, Amnesty?

The list at the end should give them a wee clue. Dozens of feminist organisations, almost all listed as 'informal', yet lumped in bizarrely with massive US anti abortion groups.

Idiots.

Amnesty distances itself from UK body over JK Rowling row

Hahaha I bet - whether or not I believe that they had no involvement.

Wtaf. These people do not live in reality, because of course, reality is also "transphobic" I suppose. What a bunch of mentally ill weirdos who unfortunately feel they have the right to impose their delusions on the rest of us. Im glad they are finding out just how many people disagree with them outside of their echo chambers. They'll just have to cope and seethe about that and eventually, for their own sakes, accept it. Its no way to live surely, constantly angry, playing the victim and demanding the entire world agrees with you. Basically a constant toddler temper tantrum. Why do they do it to themselves?

Edited

It's ridiculous and you're right; they just don't have any true grip on reality sadly. I have a relative like this, plays the victim constantly, has temper tantrums if she doesn't get her own way and everything is always everyone else's fault, including her own bad behaviour, which she justifies with the classic "look what you made me do". A covert narcissist. These tras are the same, although some of them are grandiose narcissists as well. It's been allowed to go on for too long now; if governments, health boards, police, charities, universities haf actually told them a firm "no" from the beginning, so much of this could have been avoided. It is toddler behaviour essentially being pandered to.

Amnesty have disappointed me so much with their stance; it's them that are anti rights.

WrongKindOfFeminist · 13/07/2026 16:54

'The global human rights body Amnesty International has distanced itself from its UK organisation which labelled JK Rowling’s sexual assault support centre for women ‘anti-rights’.
The Herald asked the renowned charity whether it aligned itself with Amnesty International UK’s report on the “growing threat” of the anti-rights movement in the country.
The report has been removed temporarily while an internal review is conducted following significant public scrutiny. But it labelled Beira’s Place – the women-only sexual abuse support centre founded by JK Rowling in 2022 – as “anti-rights”.
The Harry Potter author responded on social media, to accuse the UK charity of believing women and girls “don’t deserve rights”, while Beira’s Place said the characterisation was “deeply offensive”.
Now, Amnesty International’s Secretariat – the central hub of the global organisation – has stressed the UK organisation is just one of its 72 national entities.
A spokeswoman for the International Secretariat said it was not involved in the development of the anti-rights briefing and supported the decision for the report to be withdrawn.
A statement provided to The Herald said: “This briefing was developed and published by Amnesty International UK (AI UK), one of 72 national entities in the Amnesty International movement.
“AI UK has since removed the briefing from its website and has initiated an internal review process.
“Amnesty's International Secretariat was not involved in the development of this briefing and is awaiting the results of AI UK's review. We support the decision to withdraw the report from AI UK's website.'

This is the kind of letters coming out of Bluesky

Interesting that this writer has read the title of the report as 'anti trans rights' as opposed to 'anti rights' doncha think? What a twerp.

I read Dennis Noel Kavanagh's Gay Male Network response and loved it. It had a very male quality to it - 'you wussies think you can scare us? Hell, we've had more shit thrown at us for being gay men than you could ever know' (I paraphrase).

I look forward to reading Dennis's next missive to the cretins.

WrongKindOfFeminist · 13/07/2026 17:47

There have been some very good letters so far. I'm still working on one. It's going to be YUGE.

I suggest that any woman who supports any of the named groups has legitimate grounds for complaint. Any previous Amnesty supporters. And just anyone who hates lying liars who lie.

I’m a left wing feminist biological realist.

Ditto. And was - until they got on their gender woo - a long term regular supporter.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales is on the list.

Isn't this just the England and Wales branch of the Catholic Church?

Can anyone tell me the date this column was published, or remind me how to use an archive share link please?

12th July.

nicepotoftea · 13/07/2026 20:33

They seem to be saying that the Catholic Church in England and Wales is a right wing advocacy group.

This might come as news to Pope Leo.

Everybody who doesn't nod along with the GC cult is wrong, aren't they? It doesn't matter if they're reasonable, rational people. Or if they're compassionate. Or if they are even sane. They refuse to nod along with The Cult and so must be perpetually attacked in far-right echo-chambers like MN.

🙄

What a fantastic piece of satire! Really well done - you've really got the absurdity of the whole thing.

I mean, you've managed to get a whole heap of tropes into just one post! Impressive.

Far-right echo chambers? And you think we are a cult? What planet are you on? This is one of the few places we are allowed proper debate, unlike Reddit, which just deletes any GC comments, or Facebook, where both sides are likely to get a pile-on and offensive comments, which are not allowed here. Plus, unlike Facebook or LinkedIn, where real names are used, we are free to say what we think without risking losing our friends, our family or our jobs.

Actually no. It's more the lack of evidence based research.

But now Amnesty have the opportunity to show their workings, so I'm sure everything will be fine.

"Far-right echo chambers?"
Yes.

"And you think we are a cult?"
I'm far from the only one. MN has a reputation for a reason.

One can only assume that it is Reddit, that bastion of tolerance, free debate platform par excellence! Where opposing views are deleted for your own good, lest your eyes suffer from the vile beast of pluralistic ideas!

Let us jump on the bus to that paradise on earth, leaving behind this iniquitous den where posters cannot be blocked, where you cannot restrict who sees or comments on your posts!

You really are ignorant about the internet, aren't you? Reddit is (mostly) awful. Just a MN is. Two sides of the same coin.

I mean, good grief!

Well, that response from TheTruth was about at the same level as the simplistic cartoon. It reminds me of a children's morality tale film I once had to sit through, though at least the child I was accompanying seemed to enjoy it.
