Thanks for this, OP. As we've always said, it will all come down to lawsuits, and the disassembling of this movement that harms so many will ultimately gather pace in the US. It will probably have to be done state by state, as most contentious issues are, unfortunately, so it will take time. But, this is just the start. At least by the time the massive tidal wave of detransistioning hits the UK, we will already have the law to back us up.

Too late for some, however, like my niece. Far too late. And I will never not be furious about that.

Obviously I hate to agree with Trump but I do think the gender affirmation model has been incredibly damaging to children. The easy prescribing of puberty blockers then, almost inevitably, cross sex hormones can cause infertility and other permanent changes.

I do think children who are trans identifying need therapy not medicating as many of them will turn out to be gay or autistic. I think the Cass report recommended “watchful waiting” which sounds sensible.

I note the clinic will be free for a year but many of the effects from cross sex hormones (osteoporosis for example) will be lifelong and will insurers be willing to pay long term?

The headline doesn’t mention it but this is the outcome of a court case where the hospital agreed to introduce the detransition service, pay a $10 million fine & fire five gender surgeons.

I have steroid induced severe osteoporosis and have had multiple fractures.
Anyone deliberately inflicting that on a child is evil and should be in prison. IMO.

Of note is that this has been court ordered by an ideologically driven Trumpist attorney general, not instituted due to any evidence of need - check back in a few years to see how many patients this clinic has actually seen.

It's another classic example of how anyone deviating from the approved script is relentlessly bullied with their employment, family and friends relentlessly targeted. As evidenced in every tribunal and court case we see.

The Cass Review highlighted the negative impact of pausing puberty in children. Research shows that puberty blockers impair bone density and leaving adolescents vulnerable to osteoporosis. (Even the captured BMA have had to acknowledge this).

Yet still the adults determined to transition other people's children continue to push their untruths at everyone.

Poor kids who were even put in this situation to begin with.

It absolutely is a side effect of taking cross sex hormones. Together with early menopause, vaginal atrophy, with all the pain and bladder problems that causes, and infertility too. Elaine Millar (Miller?) explains this very clearly on her you tube videos. She is an obstetric physiotherapist whose work is valid for CPD for HCPs. I can't do links on phone but she is easy to find.

What the Cass review actually said was there was "moderate-quality evidence that bone density and height may be compromised during treatment [with puberty blockers]", but it found no evidence treatment with PBs cause long term adult osteoporosis, and it also cited research which shows bone density fully recovers when puberty blockers are stopped and puberty commences, whether that's naturally or via gender affirming hormones.

Stop spreading scaremongering misinformation.

Transitioning children, telling them their bodies are "wrong", feeding them drugs, and chopping off healthy body parts would always have been wrong, even if Trump and his ilk had never existed. It has always been wrong to harm children, and however this new clinic has come about, if it can help some of the children this horrible ideology has harmed, then good!

Elaine Miller is the person who flashed her pubes at Holyrood during a debate about the gender recognition. As I recall she also lied about the number of trans patients she'd seen in her clinic, claiming they made up the bulk of her workload, then it turned out she'd seen less than 20. I'd hardly call her an objective commenter.

We're not talking about HRT.

As commented, I'll see you back here in 3 years and we'll see how many patients this clinic has actually seen. If it's in trend with every other detransitioner initiative instigated over the last few years, it'll be barely a handful. Remember Charlie Evans and her "Detransitioners Network", trumpeting in the headlines that she was going to support thousands? Before the organisation went defunked she admitted she'd been contacted by only 12 people. Genspect's Detrans Awareness Day conference, despite supposedly being a global event, was attended by less than 40 actual detransitioners. The artist Sarah Vaci embarked on a project to photograph 100 detransitioned women - four years later, she has yet to find 100, and some of those she photographed have since retransitioned. The pattern repeats itself over and over.

Tell that to @Secretseverywhere and @endofagain because they certainly were.

Threads like this are so revealing. If you were genuinely concerned about the physical impact of transition, you think you'd be pleased to discover the risks are not as terrible as you imagined. But instead you want to cling to that idea of risk, because none of this is actually about compassion or concern, it's about your ideological opposition to the existence of trans people, and all you actually want is for the evidence to tell you what you already believe.

It doesn't matter how many children or young people this clinic will help; what matters is that there will be somewhere for them to go. If this clinic helps even one person who realizes she or he made a mistake in transitioning, surely that's a good thing. Surely you don't need everyone to stay unhappy being "trans" if that's no longer how they see themselves? You seem to be saying you'd rather some unhappy children and young people should remain unhappy because you don't believe anyone should need such a clinic.

I stand by my original statement: safeguarding children should never be about politics.

I wonder why you seem to need there to be no transitioners?
