Gerbils, I'll have a mojito please!

@Boiledbeetle you didn't work at Yankee Burger in Hull did you? I once went there and had chips with chip spice.

No, I was working on a construction site at the time so would have just gone to some random chip shop.

Mojito sisters!

😀My fav cocktail- I almost never drink alcohol outside the Bluey, so mine's always a Virgin Mojito in real life.

Poutine. Cheese, chips and gravy.
( I have to bulk buy the cheese curds by mail order and freeze them though.)

Dad is well enough that I can risk a few days at home! Hurray! I get to see my garden and hens kids after 8 days.

Gerbils, celebration cocktails for everyone!

I've heard of it (via a Canadian online friend), but have never tried it.

Chips and gravy would go down well. I do find myself wondering what the cheese curds would do to it. Would definitely try it.

The one thing in my life that I would never try again would be vymya. If a Russian ever offers you some, do not eat it. (No chips are involved.)

Ditto, I'm teetotal. It's a fairly reliable mocktail although you do occasionally get one that has so much lime juice in it you could use it to prevent scurvy 😂

I am inordinately fond of a cocktail named Floradora. I wonder if the bar gerbils know the recipe...

I have only just discovered taralli as a bar snack - I see there is a large bowl of fennel-y ones on the bar top.

Apparently I sleepwalk.

This isn't new. What's new is finding out that the name for what happens to me is sleepwalking.

I occasionally awake in a complete panic with a desperate need to find something or do something I have forgotten. I wake up from deep sleep, not REM. Sometimes I search the drawers next to the bed.

Last night I exclaimed, "No that's not it", got out of bed at 3.33am, walked to the living room and searched for "it" (which was very clear in my head last night and now I can't remember). I didn't find it. I went straight back to sleep (watch said I was awake for three minutes) but the Walrus was awake till 6am. Even DSD woke up.

This has happened before when I've got out of bed searching. One time (pre Walrus) I even said "don't tell me I'm asleep, I'm definitely not".

I asked ChatGPT what it was called and it was confident it was confusional arousal, but all the medical definitions say sufferers don't get out of bed. So what I did was more closely aligned to sleepwalking.

Not sure what to make of it and I'm mortified I woke him and he couldn't sleep afterwards.

DH does something like this, and yes, I suspect it is stress related.

By the time he's blundered loudly round the bedroom in search of the door so he can go to the loo, I'm staring into the darkness like 😳

He goes straight back to sleep. I contemplate... well, I don't want to incriminate myself.

Just think of all that Vitamin C though!

I usually have some wine at Christmas only because I feel like one should have wine at Christmas (if one drinks alcohol), but it just doesn't taste the same to me anymore. So it takes me a week to finish a bottle, which is no good, really. And I love single malts, but save it for special occasions or when I feel like I'm coming down with a cold.

The rest of my life is alcohol-free. I wonder if it was the menopause that changed the taste one wine?

These are some of the squares I knitted last summer.

Floradora is a good name, what's in it?

It's a gin based cocktail with raspberry liqueur, ginger beer and lime juice. Requires a careful hand to balance the flavours as it 's easy to make too sweet.

Named after a musical called Florodora, very popular in the Edwardian period.

When I was a teenager, my mum and dad used to take part in a group that staged old-time music-halls to raise money for charity. Dad played the piano and mum joined in with songs. I remember them singing "Tell me pretty maiden" from Floradora. 1930 version of it here: 1

I barely drink either nowadays. DH really can’t tolerate any at all now - we had a proper beer each while on holiday in a restaurant which had no low/zero alcohol ones and it set off his arythmia. And I’m not really bothered so I’m usually happy to forgo alcohol. Fortunately there are some low alcohol IPAs which are quite drinkable and Guinness zero is positively good.

That sounds yummy, and I bet, because it has ginger beer, you could make it alcohol free and it would still be yummy!

EdithStourton · 27/04/2026 20:53

Floradora sounds like a pair of frilly twins.

Today went swimmingly until about 4pm, when my phone decided it wouldn't send texts. I was out, and low on charge, so couldn't use the turn it off and on again technique. I did that when I got home, and it was fine.

But while I was waiting for it to die and come back to life, I thought I'd check my email, and I discovered that it was well and truly buggered. I had to wait for DH to come home as he's in charge of the computer end of things. He tinkered about and apparently it should be alright by tomorrow morning, as changes take 4 to 8 hours to go live.

And I burned the bacon when cooking dinner.

And after that I discovered a plumbing problem which will probably involve phoning the plumber.

Fuck sake.
