Grr…just lost a longish post. Will try again after I’ve finished my dinner.

I hate when that happens! Sometimes it's saved as a draft, sometimes it's not. And if you go back a page to check on something, or to retrieve a post to quote it, you come back to find it's all gone😡

If I've written a longish post, I copy it before I go away from that page so I can paste it into the blank space if it has disappeared; if it's a really Deep and Meaningful one I've put a lot of thought into, I copy it and paste it into a doc for safekeeping.

I'm on a laptop, that may not make sense on other devices.

Your day out amongst the birds and the bluebells sounds lovelySmile

If I'm doing a long post on my phone, I usually start out writing it in Notes (iPhone) so I can save it as I go along. My phone is way too glitchy to not do it that way. It was fine until I updated (meaning downgraded) a week ago. Now it's all over the place

I might sleep in the Quilting Nook tonight, if that's allowed? (I brought my sleeping bag)

I can't face going home and looking at my dishwasher.

You can if you want, but the Bluestocking does of course have comfortable accommodation upstairs.

The gerbils do marvellous breakfasts. You can have it in your room, on the balcony if the weather permits or in one of the dining areas.

Dextersgoneovertherainbowbridge · 25/04/2026 08:10

I really need to pop in more often. Gerbils (sorry, I’ll get to know your names I promise!) May I have a coffee? I’m on my way to get weighed and need to caffeine to cope with what the scales are going to tell me. Horrid things.

ChristmasStars · 25/04/2026 08:12

I wonder if any scales in the BS always show an ideal weight, since you clearly don't gain anything from any of the lovely food in here.

Dextersgoneovertherainbowbridge · 25/04/2026 08:42

I’m eating here all the time now!

I don’t think scales would work in the BS unreality field.

Disobliging objects, scales. See also mirrors.

When I first came to the Bluestocking there was chat about menopause cakes. I googled a bit, came across https://phoenixhomeopathy.com/blog/menopause-hrt-cake-recipe & still haven’t managed to get it exactly cakey, but a bowl of it warmed up & with Greek yogurt on top makes a very tasty pudding. A bit like a crumble.

I have made the HRT cake in the past, but the dry ingredients are pretty much what I use to make my own muesli these days. I use a milled nut and seed mix which includes flaxseeds and don't use any flour. I sometimes make it into Bircher-style muesli by adding natural Greek yoghurt, fresh apple, pear or berries and a little milk then leaving it in a kilner jar in the fridge overnight. It comes out as a thick porridge, which can be thinned out by adding more milk. A jar will last 3 or 4 days as long as the dairy products are in date.

That's possibly true.

I use a lot of the stuff for my overnight oats, but I’m enjoying this as an alternative.

Just catching up. It's been a week at work.

I'm another who gets migraines - no pain but the visual auras. I often feel like my brain has been whisked because I couldn't tell you my own name when I'm in the middle of one.

Loved Muncaster Castle and the railway at Eskdale but did not enjoy the route over Hardknott Pass to get there. The road was so steep at parts that we couldn't see the road in front of the car quite often. I closed my eyes and whimpered for most of it.

Waitwhat23 · 25/04/2026 09:37

And best wishes to all who are having a hard time with health issues

AngleofRepose · 25/04/2026 09:44

Morning, all! I wish I had known about the lovely accommodation here before, but I fell asleep almost immediately in my sleeping bag in the Nook. Couldn't really get comfortable, so got up at 3am and I and my sleeping bag walked home to bed.

(There was a security capybara just outside, never knew we had those. She said "alright?" and nodded her head sagely. I sloped away blearily).

So, had my usual bran flakes and OJ for breakfast (obviously not mixed together). Next time, I'm having an omelette on the balcony!

Beautiful day here, so after my hot chocolate, please gerbils, am off to view a house...

Happy Birthday Party GIF

It’s my birthday today 64. Off to a local country park with my kids and grandkids for a picnic.

DH is making a picnic for the entire park i think.

DH bought me a ratchet windlass which i am chuffed with, the lock paddles seem stiffer these days - or is it my age.

Edited

I remember going over there in my first car in the '80s - a mini. There were four of us and although we managed to get over Wrynose Pass, Hardnott was too much for the engine and my passengers had to get out and walk the steepest bit!

I later discovered that there is an 'escape route' between the two passes from the wonderfully named Wrynose Bottom, to the village of Ulpha.

Have a great birthday, Hedgie! 💙You'll have to tell us all later how the picnic went... with descriptions of all the yummy food, please 😀
