Is that Glenda hiding in the trolley, behind the Southern Comfort ? (nasty, nasty stuff)

But a brilliant film.

ENT says there is nothing physically wrong with my voice and my vocal cords are not inflamed. This sounds like good news but isn't because a physical cause is easy to treat.

Apparently I have tension in my neck and need to relax my voice so I'm being referred to Speech Therapy. Which will be more exercises to do, just as for my arm and ankle that I won't do, because my executive function is so rubbish.

My ASD referral questionnaire x10 (no I'm not joking) came through and then it will be 12 weeks from filling them in before I get an appointment. Which will take time because of my lack of executive function.

I also have to fight Virgin Media AGAIN because instead of the £123 credit I.was promised they still say I owe £210 and I have to pay £70 because they've applied credit. Two more emails were sent by me today. I will go to the Ombudsman if it's not fixed because this is my fourth or fifth complaint. I will probably cancel the direct debit until they sort it out.

The MRI was fine except they asked me about music and I was very disregulated and in tears because of the ENT. If they had said in advance I could choose music I could have planned ahead. So I asked for ballads assuming I would get some Celine Dion and the Carpenters or similar, and ended up with modern songs I don't know. Fortunately there was a digital countdown clock for each scan which I could look at.

So the Walrus went out and actually bought real gin to help.

I know you will all want to help and make suggestions and that's very kind but I am so upset that I won't receive them very well. And if anyone suggests mindfulness, meditation or yoga I will most definitely not find that helpful. They fuck with my head. Seriously.

Fuck mindfulness. You need an extremely strong gin with a high quality tonic, decent amounts of ice and a slice of juicy lime. x

Cake, it can cause fatigue the longer it goes on, so hopefully you won't have that problem with only 5 sessions.

Shhh! 😁

If it helps, when I was in Rose Street yesterday, I passed Dirty Dick's.

It's the first time I've noticed it. I recall Mum mentioned it - she was in service (as a housekeeper) in Edinburgh, 1939-52. I recall she said that it had stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling.

I think I had a drink in there many years ago. The name definitely rings a bell and I normally avoid Rose Street these days because of the tourists.

Yes, it was a chock-a-block yesterday.

I haven't seen it, might need to check it out!

<sob>
Someone, predictably, is being "argumentative " on one of Cake's threads, I'm losing the will.
...aaand..,
Standing water in the dishwasher again.

Bar gerbils, Oban, double, neat, please
I'm just going to sit in the corner of the Quilting Nook and have a little cry.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2026 20:27

Grr…just lost a longish post. Will try again after I’ve finished my dinner.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2026 20:31

So I’ll try a series of short posts in no particular order.
question re migraines and pressure changes - can flying be a trigger?

I just knew who it would be before I checked and I was right. I think many moons ago I told them to wind their neck in, or words to that effect! Don't think I've interacted much with them since.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2026 20:34

Point of order - there’s no ban on TAATs, that seems to be a common misconception. What is banned in the MN talk guidelines is threads trying to rehash ones which have been deleted.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2026 20:35

Sorry you’ve had such a rubbish day @MyrtleLion. GinGin

ok so not just me, then. Good to know because I'm really having to bite my tongue, although you wouldn't know it from my posts.

They always have to be the first, always have to be right, and if the thread is discussing something they don't want to talk about, they try to turn it into what they do want to talk about.

Tiresome.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2026 20:40

Glad you’ve had decent news and a good day out afterwards, Cake. We went to a bird of prey centre last year where a wild kite showed up - it had apparently learned the time of a reliable meal. Perhaps it’s the same one

lcakethereforeIam · 24/04/2026 20:45

It was mobbed by a pair of buzzards. Perhaps they'd all learned.

Don't worry, Myrtle, sometimes the best thing to say is either nothing, or something like 'there, there' or better still, 'here's a large G&T'Smile
So have a restful evening, a massage from the gerbils, a large G&T or three, and some time off from fighting and planning and achieving, all of which you do so well, but have to do too muchFlowers

Meanwhile, we also have seen some bird flying displays today. We’ve had a long day out visiting Muncaster Castle, which is worth the long drive at this time of year for its wonderful bluebell woods plus many of their collection of rhododendrons and azaleas in bloom. They also have an owl and bird of prey collection and do really excellent displays. Today the main one began with a bald eagle, then a soaring buzzard eagle followed by an eagle owl. Then they had a falcon stooping for a lure and the culmination was their lovely trio of teenage vultures, plus a group of black kites.

They’re huge advocates for the vultures - critically endangered in the wild but a vital part of a healthy ecosystem cleaning up dead animals and thus reducing the prevalence of disease inc cholera and rabies. And unlike the corvids who do the cleanup here, they don’t do any predation whatever.

Magpiecomplex · 24/04/2026 20:53

EdithStourton · 24/04/2026 18:10

Magpie, should you move jobs, would you escape from the world of bad mullets, Schoffel gilets and trips to agricultural machinery fairs?

Or just shift to a different part of it?

More flower shows, fewer gilets. And please god, hopefully no mullets!

Chickadeeinme · 24/04/2026 21:11

I visited Muncaster Castle in May 1979. I remember that holiday because we sat in the car later in shades of gloom as the Tories under Thatcher had just been elected. My older DS was not quite 1. I mainly remember those glorious giant rhododendrons on the driveway - never seen any quite that magnificent since.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/04/2026 21:11

We had a white tailed eagle, a young one. More of a white-ish tailed eagle. They also flew a common kestrel who was adorable.
