Women: from an orderly queue at the bar or take a seat and grab a passing gerbil.

Men: turn left at the end of the road, keep walking until you find the Staunch Ally.

Bar gerbil a full fat coke please and a packet of Scampi Fries please.

Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give you...

I'm afraid I had to scroll past the bouillabaise at speed. I can't do shellfish. Boily can have my share too!

That's somewhat ironic for a puffling!

I'll let Boily have my share. It looks great, but I don't think even the Bluey's unreality field could protect me from the effects of tomato and garlic and shellfish all together in the same dish.

She’ll have to fight me for it, that’s a wonderful combination.

DD and I are going to church this evening. We both go occasionally, but a local choir is singing and that clinched it.

We don't have vicars round here any longer, we have Rural Missioners, about 3 of them running a large patch, so it's anyone's guess who'll take the service. They're all very good at faces and if you appear in one church, and then a month later at a village fete five miles down the road, they'll clock you.

Have you tried Yarnsmiths merino sock yarn, @Magpiecomplex? I can’t wear wool either, but I’m using it to knit the dresses for my granddaughters, and I’m fine with it.

My current sock making is with this yarn. I love it.

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2026 17:59

So that's 3 portions for me. Anyone else donating their portion to feed the poor starving beetle?

They’re all about the sand eels.

I've just bought some.😮
Beautiful ones as the main colour
https://www.jarbon.com/products/yarnadelic-worsted?variant=43892563083298
and Les Fleurs for the contrast
https://www.jarbon.com/products/yarnadelic-worsted?variant=43892562886690

It is very expensive yarn, but it wears brilliantly. And if I'm devoting hours of my life to making something, I want to be lovely.

The shellfish is optional, dp doesn't eat mussels either, so I cooked them separately in a bit of the bouillabaise and added them only to my bowl.

One of my pals made me 'the virus shawl' which was much admired (which is why I remember the name, I had to keep saying, 'yes isn't it, Suzy made it, the pattern is . . . ').

I enjoyed making a virus shawl, but when it came to wearing it, the wind whistled through the holes & I didn't stay warm. My fault, though, I made it in an acrylic which was like working with thick string. Other, nicer acrylics are available.

Pasta, how are amigurumi not complicated? They're beyond me. I'm strictly a 2D crocheter, unless something goes really wrong & wobbly.
NB This question was based on admiration for Pasta's skills.

There's plenty for everybody and there are rhubarb custard creams for pudding. They are nicer after a few hours in the fridge though.

Same. It's very early in the season here in Scotland. That was only the second batch we harvested this year.

Just caught up. Thanks for the new thread. I've speed read the first few pages (did I see Android holding a laminated gerbil). I'm trying to learn to crochet but it's been put on hold while I've been hospitalising and knitting for WH. The kit my friend got me for Xmas (Toft elephant) is all fuzzy, grey wool. The magic ring is confusing 😕 me too.

Happy Birthday for yesterday @ShinyBlueTractor

❤️s to all of us who have been ill or are suffering a loss. I went to my friend's sister's funeral yesterday (the one I coincidentally shared a Christian name with). It was very odd hearing my name from the celebrant and I was genuinely uncomfortable at the idea of introducing myself to someone. I was worried I'd upset them. Fortunately it didn't happen. The weather was lovely for her. We'd been friends but lost touch when she got married and moved away. She was always an upbeat and positive person. The picture of her on the Order of Service absolutely showed that.

In other new Idris returned to Dyfi yesterday. Telyn was all, 'what took you so long?'. The new male (ringed N0) is still in the area but wisely keeping a low profile. If Idris reads the chat on the Dyfi Osprey project, Telyn will be in for it. At the moment he thinks the nest refurbishment was all her work.

I will, but I’m concerned you might expand further than your shiny outer layer can comfortably accommodate.

Will you promise not to eat all four portions at one sitting?

popery · 03/04/2026 21:38

Sheltering here for a nice pint of dubonnay!
Some posters on MN are pretty intolerant of ND people and I find it quite disheartening.

AsWithGlad · 03/04/2026 21:39

For those puzzled about a crochet magic ring, I wouldn’t trouble to learn it. Woolly Hugs specifically tells people to avoid it for their blankets as they can come undone.

At least, I remember reading that but I can’t find it on their website now.

DH was allergic to mussels, so I've never tried them.
