'The legally-binding advice for all schools in England also says there are "no exceptions" for single-sex facilities, including toilets and changing rooms, with single-sex sports also protected.'

Vast Majority of parents should be told if pupils question their gender

A parent kneels in a modern kitchen, holding and comforting a school‑aged child who is wearing a uniform and a large backpack, as they share a close and supportive moment.

Tell parents if pupils question gender at school, government says

School leaders welcome the "greater clarity" on how to handle the polarising issue for parents and pupils.

Another staggeringly revealing comment on reddit:

"“No exceptions” ok so teachers, assistants, and cleaners are legally not allowed to enter changing rooms/toilets that dotn match their agab?"

No, male teachers are not allowed in female changing rooms what the actual fuck.

WarriorN · 12/02/2026 16:07

Excellent that it's been welcomed by everyone.

lol the hyperbole

they’re all going to fill out the consultation

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/02/2026 16:31

This part is great

It clearly sets out that single sex spaces must be protected. Without exception, no child should be made to feel unsafe through inappropriate mixed sex sport, and there should be no sharing of school and college toilet facilities over eight years old or mixed sex sleeping arrangements on trips.

Not everyone. Of course the gov won’t cover this in a press release. Social transitioning is not good for dc. If that’s still happening then MF is right.

However, Maya Forstater, the chief executive of Sex Matters, said allowing children to transition socially at school was encouraging “a dangerous fairy tale”.

She said: “Schools are still being left with the idea that they can facilitate ‘social transition’ – which remains undefined – and that they should negotiate this on a case-by-case basis.

“They are being encouraged to think that children have a ‘birth sex’ as well as some other concept of sex. This has no basis in law or reality, and undermines safeguarding.

“It should be clear by now that allowing children and parents to think that a child who starts their education as a girl can graduate as a boy or vice versa is a dangerous fairy tale.”

I think the head of my school is totally fucked.

"105. Schools must not allow children into toilets designated for the opposite
biological sex. This includes where schools are responding to a request to support any degree of social transition for children who are questioning their gender."

"112. Schools and colleges must not allow a child, aged 11 years or older at the
start of the school year, to undress in front of a child of the opposite biological sex, to comply with their safeguarding duties. When responding to a request to support any degree of social transition this must not include allowing access to changing rooms designated for the opposite sex."

"192. To comply with their safeguarding duties, schools and colleges must not
allow a child to share overnight accommodation with a child of the opposite
biological sex. Responding to a request to support any degree of social transitionmust not include allowing access to boarding or residential accommodation designated for the opposite sex"

Hurrah. The wording of that is excellent.

It is perfectly possible to support a child with gender confusion without allowing them access to opposite sex children in a state of undress. This has to be a hard line.

Now let's see the same in the bloody guidance and the law enforced.
