Come in. Yes, you’re in the right place. No, you don’t need to explain yourself.

Coats will be drycleaned before you depart. Bags won't be stolen because Gubbins will play her triangle. And you really don't want to hear it.

The gerbils run the bar.
They are small, brisk, and unionised.
One is polishing a glass with unnecessary seriousness.
Another is keeping the tab and will remember what you ordered last time.
There is a triangle involved. No one knows why. It keeps Gubbins happy.

Sit. Think. Drink. Join in.

The gerbils have it from here.

Crumbs. Yes, I have been Googling.

I have been edumacated. Now I'm wondering what it would be like to be a tetrachromat, but I guess that if you've never known anything else...

I recall as a child coming to the conclusion that we might all see the world differently and can never know what the world looks like to others. stops before brain implodes

Quick! Who do I speak to round her to get a soothing G&T?

I do wonder if it explains a lot of those domestic arguments about paint colours that one overhears in B&Q.

There was a gerbil carrying a Gin and Nonic earlier, would that do?

Kitty is pondering standing for parliament on a female animal rights platform. She spent 5 years either pregnant or nursing, she knows all about the differences between the sexes.

Would the gerbils run her campaign?

I'll vote for you Kitty. You clearly have more sense than 99% of politicians.

And are a darn sight prettier.

DeanElderberry · 21/02/2026 13:49

Yes they sold me a dud lottery ticket again, it's just too bad.

otoh, I am really looking forward to Capability Capybara's performance of the Dance of the Spindleberry Fairy and think her colours are spot-on.

Alternatively, @WearyAuldWumman you could try asking Glenda.

You can ask, WAW,but I fear you'll have to prise the g&t out of her surprisingly strong little pink fingers😄

I've been getting an edumacation too - google says that Dichromats can match any color they see with a mixture of no more than two pure spectral lights.

Judging from her mismatched outfit, it would appear Capability hasn't got
enough pure spectral light garments in her wardrobe..

She should go on the Shopping board to find pure spectral light garments, preferably on sale.

I looked at the Shopping board the other day, I'd only ever looked once before- very soothing, the problems are not exactly life-threatening, and are immediately met with a wall of helpful suggestions and links

There's one where somebody asked for suggestions for an interview outfit, and she hasn't much money to spend on it. Everyone was so lovely to her!
Not just advice and links to outfit, but lots of good wishes and good luck and hope it goes well.. very sweetSmile

When things get dire on FWR, I suggest a quick hit of the Shopping thread!

Of course they will! Not sure what the one on the right is telling her to do, though.

Is this confident enough?

She may need to rein it in a bit - she's shading over into 'aggressive' there.

Not on any account to be confused with "We both know what I need and you will do it", which is quite different.

Capybaras may be dichromats and so not be able to discern the reddish shades as well as we can.

Is there a subtle reason why the orange neck-attire fastens both at the front and at the back?

MarieDeGournay · 21/02/2026 17:01

A propos of absolutely nothing, except that this ad just popped up on the right of my laptop screen. On the off-chance that any of you had formed the mistaken opinion that Jedward were devoid of any talent, watch this!

Isn't it supposed to be very difficult to deliberately act, or sing, badly? In that case, they deserve an Oscar😂 I've seen it onTV, I think it's very funny. There's another in the series where an obsessive Daniel O'Donnell fan angrily orders him out of her house (which is absolutely full of DO'D merch) when he offers to 'have a wee look at that boiler for you'..Smile

@WearyAuldWumman wrote I recall as a child coming to the conclusion that we might all see the world differently and can never know what the world looks like to others. stops before brain implodes**

You were admirably thoughtful as a child, Weary. I was in my ‘60s when I realised that, when most people are told something like “Picture a sunny beach, with waves lapping at the shore,” they could actually see something in their mind.

This Wikipedia article isn’t very positive.

Edit: I did get a very high score on some online test of ordering colours which had only subtle differences between them.

Fashion, dahlink...

WearyAuldWumman · 21/02/2026 17:11

@AsWithGlad I had a similar experience when DH and I discussed reading.

I assumed that everyone had an internal narrator: DH told me that he used to see a 'Technicolor film' when he read. I have great difficulty seeing something in my mind - I had assumed that it was the same for most people.

FarriersGirl · 21/02/2026 17:13

Magpiecomplex · 21/02/2026 13:37

Roughly 15% of human females, the original sort, are actually tetrachromats.

I think I am one of these - I did a test about 10 years ago that established my ability to discern different shades of colour was in the the top 3%. Not terribly useful although I do love colour matching and will get a lot of match pots when decorating.

AsWithGlad · 21/02/2026 17:16

Goodness me. I’m with you.

How different we all are, I must ask my DH what/ whether he sees when he reads.

To the standard question, “Do you think in words or pictures?” my answer would be, “Sometimes words, never pictures, usually thoughts.”

Possibly your answers would be the same.

Yes, @AsWithGlad . I tried an online meditation class for a while. Couldn't really picture anything, and kept falling asleep...

Yes, similarly here. Meditation can be recommended for people with Long Covid, but it doesn’t help me.

Edit: at least we know now why it doesn’t work.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/02/2026 17:29

I did the Daily Calm meditation for a while - not too much visualisation but lots of focusing on your breathing. I don’t know if it did me any good - maybe I should go back to it.

I am currently watching Scotland v Wales in the Six Nations. Wales had a man yellow-carded and are still leading at half time. Sigh.

lcakethereforeIam · 21/02/2026 17:58

I remember when my sprogs were newborn wondering how emotions worked when you didn't have language. There was a bit more to it. I freaked myself out a little.

I also think colours can be different depending on how the device you're using is set up and interprets all those 1s and 0s. Not to mention how the devices that filmed, uploaded, stored and downloaded do their bit. This is putting the human element to one side.

I've had a shower, washed my hair properly and feel a million times better.
