Come in. Yes, you’re in the right place. No, you don’t need to explain yourself.

Coats will be drycleaned before you depart. Bags won't be stolen because Gubbins will play her triangle. And you really don't want to hear it.

The gerbils run the bar.
They are small, brisk, and unionised.
One is polishing a glass with unnecessary seriousness.
Another is keeping the tab and will remember what you ordered last time.
There is a triangle involved. No one knows why. It keeps Gubbins happy.

Sit. Think. Drink. Join in.

The gerbils have it from here.

I did the Daily Calm meditation for a while - not too much visualisation but lots of focusing on your breathing. I don’t know if it did me any good - maybe I should go back to it.

I am currently watching Scotland v Wales in the Six Nations. Wales had a man yellow-carded and are still leading at half time. Sigh.

whispers out the side of her mouth

Mum always told me that it was all right to be beaten by Wales...

I can say that doing the focusing on breathing during Pilates classes has been beneficial to me.

I remember that feeling from when I broke my arm, Cake, the joy of being able to get clean again. Amazing what a difference it makes, isn't it?
Glad you're feeling better. 💙

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 21/02/2026 18:16

@AsWithGlad To the standard question, “Do you think in words or pictures?” my answer would be, “Sometimes words, never pictures, usually thoughts.”

I sometimes see pictures when I'm reading, but most often I hear voices and each voice is distinct and accented, even for things like MN posts.

Tiny Twallock the other night started off with a voice like George Sanders (aka Shere Khan from Disney's Jungle Book). Rather smooth and sneering.

Then he morphed into Kenneth Williams........

MarieDeGournay · 21/02/2026 18:36

I've had a shower, washed my hair properly and feel a million times better.
Lookin' good, Cake, lookin' good😎

Great to hear you can feel more human again, there's nothing quite like a shower to make you feel betterSmile

FranticFrankie · 21/02/2026 20:14

It's busy tonight- no chance of a seat! I'll have be a bar-fly and chat to the gerbils
1pw is back I see......👀

ifIwerenotanandroid · 21/02/2026 20:19

This is the Bluey, Frankie - just imagine another chair (or even room, or building, or bit of the garden) & it will be so. But stand if you wish. Cheers!

EdithStourton · 21/02/2026 20:30

wasn't there a particularly unsavoury incident following a Scrabble game?
There was indeed. Gosie was very noble about it, as I recall.

It had never occurred to me until a few years ago that some people didn't see memories of events like still images, or even movie clips in their heads (mine are a bit like old cine, they tend to get blurrier as time goes on). It boggled me, TBH, as I rely on mental images to navigate, for example - I couldn't necessarily tell you which exit you need off the multi-exited roundabout, but that it's the one just after you past the <mental image>.

I'm glad you've been able to wash, Cake - it must feel so much better.

Anyway, I see Gosie is on gin service this evening. A Tanqueray Malacca, please...

FuzzyPuffling · 21/02/2026 20:33

I'll have that new cocktail please gerbils, the "Twallockbuster". I hear it's marvellous!

FranticFrankie · 21/02/2026 20:40

Ah good idea. I found a cushion too- this place is amazing; never been anywhere like it
Ooh a cocktail for me too please. I like the sound of a twallockbuster. Is it sour? Or very sweet??? I'll push the boat out and have some olives too

FuzzyPuffling · 21/02/2026 20:45

The "Twallockbuster" has a special ingredient that prevents it being bitter. Or twisted.

Magpiecomplex · 21/02/2026 21:02

Recycled image, will this do for the Twallockbuster?

The top one, I think,
The bottom looks a bit cute and floral for a 'buster'.

Maybe add a firework or a UXB to the top one, just to fine tune it a little...

EdithStourton · 21/02/2026 21:20

Oh, and anyway, my gin and nonic has mysteriously vanished from the glass, so I'll have one...

It looks a bit like a Green Swizzle, which I have never tried but, since I know it was a favourite of Bertie Wooster, I've always been curious about.

Less keen to try the May Queen cocktail, as recommended by Lord Ickenham.

Thank you for being my human shield, Hedgey 😬
Maybe somebody will report him for all nasty insulting things he said about 'sex realists' .
I had a look back at the thread, thank you for the lovely post you wrote, Hedgey, which I didn't see at the timeSmile

DH recently read Temple Grandin’s book “Visual Thinking” and was blown away by how much he resembles that (which is why he’s an architect and sucks at maths I guess). I’m definitely a words thinker, though as I age I discover that I’m actually more logical than many others, which I didn’t understand in my youth. I get quite impatient with people who can’t follow a logical sequence.

“I have never been in the West Indies, but I am in a position to state that in certain of the fundamentals of life they are streets ahead of our European civilization. The man behind the counter, as kindly a bloke as I ever wish to meet, seemed to guess our requirements the moment we hove in view. Scarcely had our elbows touched the wood before he was leaping to and fro, bringing down a new bottle with each leap. A planter, apparently, does not consider he has had a drink unless it contains at least seven ingredients, and I’m not saying, mind you, that he isn’t right. The man behind the bar told us the things were called Green Swizzles; and, if ever I marry and have a son, Green Swizzle Wooster is the name that will go down on the register, in memory of the day his father’s life was saved at Wembley.”

Hopefully it wouldn't be as disappointing as the Butterbeer at the Harry Potter thing. That was just all sorts of wrong.
