What is Riley Gaines hiding? We investigated…

This podcast appeared in my feed today via an affiliated show… I know it is naive but it’s still hard to believe how blinkered - and unbearably smug the US liberal wing is on this. This is rubbish ( from the ‘Center for Investigative Reporting’, which I now wouldn’t trust to tell me if it was raining), but still enlightening… wondered if anyone else had heard it.

A six month dig to discredit Gaines - we’re not supposed to notice that everyone they’re trying to gotcha in this won’t dignify any of it - that finds her hiding (spoiler alert) nothing?

Yup. We only have two hands. It's absolutely impossible to both get the suit on and hold a towel around you. Even if the towel is fastened, you need to remove it to get the suit physically on you.

Hell will freeze over though before Howse ever admits he is wrong. Male trait and all. That poster would rather completely and utterly humiliate themselves on an international forum - and he knows everyone can read the thread and posts, so can see for themselves - than ever give us the (in his mind) 'satisfaction' of him admitting he got this one thing wrong. Very alpha male.

As long as she isn't hiding a cock, I don't care

First response nails it.

NecessaryScene · 27/11/2025 07:17

How are you supposed to do this while holding a towel?

And that example struggle's without the extra obstacles Thomas has...

(The line of argument I'm seeing on this thread is lower quality than the usual "fake moon landing" stuff. The guff about shadows or flags requires similar levels of ignorance or falsehoods, but at least if true they'd be undermining something fundamental - "this wasn't really on the moon". Whereas I'm failing to see the logical through line from the extraordinary claim "he didn't have his tackle out in the changing room" to "Thomas won fair and square").

That's because the podcast was specifically about right wing propaganda not single sex spaces. They actually make that point a couple of times at the start that the podcast makes no claims about the ethics of single sex spaces & wants to focus on the political element.

i think it’s abhorrent that they have gone through this much effort to discredit her without having the stones to look at the issue at the heart of it. They are smug and jokey - even sneer at having to have read Gaines’s book or admit she has a podcast ‘like them’, when you’d think that was central to their brief.

I’ve no time for Trump and found the Charlie Kirk comments they used quite absurdly horrific. But the ‘we’re right and these awful white people are stupid and wrong’ shtick is fundamental to how we are where we are, which is the point I made at the beginning.

Trying to restrict the discussion to some very, very narrow strip where he thinks he can get an admission (because he knows that we would be truthful about where there are grey areas - jerks do love to game non-jerks because they know non-jerks will follow the rules) to crow over.

Trying to make us completely ignore the entire context around it in order to try to make us say that non of the people explicitly said 'I solemnly swear I saw LT's penis in the changing room'.

Also knowing full well, that the whole situation is embarrassing for the girls involved, and even though they're angry, they'll still generally be trying to be polite in their speech. So saying that LT was changing with them, saying he wasn't using a towel etc. (and now seeing how you put on a competitive swimsuit!) it amounts to the same thing, but without apparently a sworn statement saying just that one thing, we can't be sure

It's such manipulative bullshit.

AI Overview

"Removing a competitive swimsuit typically takes
a few seconds, as they are designed to be tight-fitting but still removable without special effort. It is removed the same way any tight-fitting suit is removed, by pulling it down and off. Competitive swimsuits are not designed for long-term wear, and if a swimsuit is difficult to remove, it likely means it is the wrong size and should be replaced.
To remove: Gently pull the suit down from your torso and off your legs.
After removal: Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and care to extend the life of the suit.
If it's too difficult to remove: A swimsuit that is extremely difficult to take off is probably the wrong size and should be replaced with a new one to ensure a proper fit and to avoid damaging the suit.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 27/11/2025 07:20

And how did they get into the swimsuit that's easy to remove? Magic?

I don't think he sees or feels any humiliation. From other threads, Howse has set off the incel alarm bells and I think he revels in this attention. I haven't decided on whether or not he actually buys into the TRA nonsense or he's just found an easy avenue to wind up women.

CohensDiamondTeeth · 27/11/2025 07:25

Every time I think of Riley Gaines I think of that time she was attacked and had to barricade herself in a room to escape a mob of TRAs.

Terrified Riley Gaines 'ambushed by screaming trans activists who physically attacked her' | Daily Mail Online

Terrifying!

As well as total insanity! Especially since her only "crime" was to object to a cheating man who took the opportunity to get his penis out in front of her and her team mates, while she and her female team mates were forced to get naked in front of him.

Gaines' husband, Louis Barker, said he had brief conversations with his wife while she was locked in the room for nearly three hours.

Like I said, I pity him. This is the most engagement he probably gets with women. I did once suggest he got a hobby. I was thinking line dancing or a book club. It might help his social skills.

That's because its a podcast about money & politics not the ethics of single sex spaces which would distract from the purpose. Gaines is a salient example because her views evolved over time…which is fine unless they divert from the facts which they appear to that implicates whether she really is committed to the issue at the heart of it…protecting women.

Hairylegs202S · 27/11/2025 07:28

Even if he brought a one man tent into the women's changing room so no one had to see his penis (or as the OP would say, her penis), he's not going to be able to cheat his way to the medal podium by competing against women anymore.

The flashing was never the main point in competitive sports, creepy as it is (or as OP would say, validating).

I'm embarrassed for you. What was that German word a bit like schadenfreude? Suffering a form of empathic cringe at seeing someone undergoing such humiliation, and imagining yourself being brought so low. Shudder.

I am not going to doxx anyone. People can google your handle.

In Australia we say HOWS it going.

No......'E'.

I can say in over 20 years using MN it’s never occurred to me to search someone’s username on other platforms. That’s an exceedingly strange thing to do.

CohensDiamondTeeth · 27/11/2025 07:38

Oh important announcement everyone!

A man has arrived with some AI bullshit to tell us to ignore not only a first hand account of a woman with experience of these things, ignore the evidence of our eyes (unsurprisingly), and ignore our actual experience as women of changing into and out of a swim suit with a towel round you - spoiler alert, even with a regular swim suit it's hard enough to stop the towel falling down!

Best listen up silly wims, this dude and his AI know what they're on about... no honest! What? Why is everyone laughing?! 😂

It sounds to me like you are doing similar to DARVOing and victim-blaming. Instead of just accepting I did it because the handle is quite distinctive and his attitudes were so chauvinistic and alpha male I wanted to clarify to myself their sex.

It's really not, especially when dealing with a well known bad faith poster who brings such attention to themselves. I would fully expect Howse, and others like him, to be doing the same.

That's the least of the "strangeness".

Purporting to be all about protecting women then turning a blind eye to their 'hero's' obvious monetisation & cover up of sexual assault tells you why stalking other commenters private lives doesn't seem immoral.

What I’m saying is it starts from a point where Gaines is simply wrong and needs bringing down. On this, she isn’t wrong. It’s a hatchet job and not a good one even for all the ‘this took us six months’ self-congratulation.

I don't agree the podcasters stated Gaines is wrong about her views on trans women in women's sport. In fact they go to great pains to say they don't wish to make any judgment on that aspect.

The context on this thread is whether Riley Gaines is a genuine supporter of women's rights not the ethics of single sex spaces. There are plenty of threads for that.

That Gaines campaigned ….&.exaggerated her experience for a political party who are a threat to women's rights ought to give pause in feminist spaces.

The context on every thread is in this section is women’s rights. I wonder whether you are a genuine supporter of women’s rights. Oh wait! I don’t.

errrr you’re the one popping on here to scold women mate. I don’t think you can comment on anyone’s “strangeness”. You seem very determined to force women into compliance in accepting males into female spaces. Why is that? Have you considered consulting a therapist who may help you unpick your misogyny? It may help you in your offline life as well. Just think how nice life round be if you had actual friends instead of opening yourself up to mockery and derision by coming on feminist boards trying to tell feminists how to be feminists.

Yes, but there is a specific context involved....that's what separates threads.

Changing in the same room isn't the same as exposing nudity. You have no evidence any one other than Gaines said Lia Thomas exposed herself to the other swimmers.

Edited

Hahhaaa i suggest you get a competitive swimsuit and try and put it on. Modestly. I couldn’t do it in a cubicle without putting a hole in the wall as I wrestled with it.
