“You can’t boil the ocean”

loving these quotes

Oh here we go with "But Robbie Gibb!" 🙄

nauticant · 24/11/2025 16:58

Rupa Huq is going for the line: these other troublemakers, they're your mates aren't they?

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:00

Jesus

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:00

Will you publish communications with your mates?

OP posts:
NotThatWay · 24/11/2025 17:00

Ha ha. Rupa punctured.

lechiffre55 · 24/11/2025 17:00

These useful idiots have no idea they are campaigning for Farage and Reform by trying to sweep this under the carpet. The BBC continuing with its bias is gold for Reform.

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:00

(Prescott says he’s not seen Gibb for months )

This is amazing but i'm too old for hot flushes but my heart pressure won't take it

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/11/2025 17:01

I'm used to the overt partiality of the Women and Equalities Select Committee when questioning witnesses so I'm horrified to see that type of partial questioning from another Select Committee as well. No-one is trying to get to the truth, they just want to snipe and make pointed statements.

NotThatWay · 24/11/2025 17:02

They really weren't expecting him to be this capable and eloquent. And unpuncturable (is that a word? It is now!)

Sausagenbacon · 24/11/2025 17:02

How much time have they wasted trying to smear him?

nauticant · 24/11/2025 17:03

Hahaha, he ended by saying how appreciative he was to have been invited into to discuss the matter in depth and at length and sounded sincere in saying that.

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:04

Well, if there’s one thing you can say, it’s that he gave a bloody good performance and was able to defend every idiotic question. 👏

Bluebootsgreenboots · 24/11/2025 17:05

WTAF? I thought this committee was about BBC's reporting impartiality, and these idiots want to make it about the recruitment process?

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/11/2025 17:05

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:04

Well, if there’s one thing you can say, it’s that he gave a bloody good performance and was able to defend every idiotic question. 👏

Completely agree. I think he's come out of it with his integrity intact.

Bluebootsgreenboots · 24/11/2025 17:05

Who is going to buy them both a drink?

nauticant · 24/11/2025 17:05

That was class. They succeeded with one gotcha, getting the insinuation in the air that there's this trove of documents between him and Gibb discussing him getting the job among other issues, and that Prescott is doing something wrong in not turning it over to the Committee.

There's no evidence is exists at all and Prescott's response along the lines that it's a bloody cheek would seem reasonable.

NotThatWay · 24/11/2025 17:06

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:04

Well, if there’s one thing you can say, it’s that he gave a bloody good performance and was able to defend every idiotic question. 👏

Also, Rupa, never ask a question you don't know the answer to. Especially when trying to imply an insider job stitch up, when the job was advertised externally and HR were involved in the interviewing process.

Do better research, Rupa.

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:06

They seem to think the individuals at the top drive the impartiality.

it’s not, it’s the systematic transparency and self reflection that does it.

exactly the same in safeguarding and in education .

I particularly enjoyed his emphatic responses to the feeble attempts to get him to say he'd leaked the memo 🙄

nauticant · 24/11/2025 17:07

I found him very persuasive in him saying that.

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 17:08

Absolutely

and who ever did it did the bbc a favour as it’s clear that it was going to be lost behind the water cooler

He seemed like a good egg trying to do a good turn for which he was thoroughly punished.
