Michael Prescott - a former editorial adviser who raised concerns about BBC reporting, including Panorama's edit of a Donald Trump speech - will speak on the matter in public for the first time when he appears in front of a House of Commons committee.

Buried halfway down the article, a brief mention of one sided coverage of trans issues

Prescott's memo also raised concerns about other "troubling matters" including "systemic problems" of bias in BBC Arabic's coverage of the Israel-Gaza war, and one-sided coverage of trans issues.

Why can’t it be women’s rights?

Why can’t it be women’s rights?

I guess because women’s rights are covered fairly sensibly except when they are eroded by trans rights.

🍿

Let’s just hope it’s not the Women and Equalities Select Committee - they would claim the BBC has reported ‘trans issues’ perfectly, or if anything they’ve been biased against trans people.

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2025 07:40

Shall we put bets on how many times the “trans issue” is discussed? I think it will be between zero and one.

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2025 07:44

Its the Culture, Media and Sports committee.

List of members here.

I don’t really know where any of them stand on women’s rights/ trans issues

Was anyone else listening to R4 yesterday at 1:30 pm?

It ran a programme called: If at First You Don’t Secede. It discussed the SNP’s attempts to secede. If at first you don’t secede, should you really try, try, try again? Journalist Dani Garavelli wants to find out.

When the journalist discussed Sturgeon ‘troubles’ over the trans issue, her wording was Sturgeon’s "support for a vulnerable minority" was problematic as it didn’t take gender critical views into account.

‘Vulnerable minority’... like SJB or Bryson or White or Kardashian? Or any of the many disturbed and violent men identifying as women. Indeed, any of the problematic TiM in Scotland.

It was just a few sentences in the whole discussion by this female Scottish journalist but the careful wording is representative of the dogged, wilful and resolutely blinkered virtue signalling that characterises the #bekind narrative. Seemingly deliberately misrepresenting women’s well founded concerns.

Conveniently, Dani makes no mention of Sturgeon’s problems being linked to allowing the double rapist Isla Bryson to move to a female prison estate. No explanation to the listeners of how this facially tattoo’ ed hulking rapist might be considered ‘vulnerable’.

That is bias in action and it’s very subtle. All about nuanced use of language.

Except they aren't.
Any discussion about women's health is always people not women. Menopause issues isn't spoken of as women going through Menopause its always people going through Menopause same with endometriosis, pregnancy and maternity care it pregnant people, same with ovarian and cervical cancer.
Yet when they talk about mens sex specific conditions its always men not people with (insert issue). That not fair, honest, helpful or accurate reporting its anti women bias

Jeff Smith is my MP. I don’t think he will rock any boats since he wants to climb the greasy pole. I’ve always reckoned he is full on TWAW because his staff are but a friend thinks he’s fairly sensible but not coming out publicly. Either way I wouldn’t put my hard earned savings on him raising women’s rights.

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 08:58

This is the life boat for people like him though.

he can challenge balance and make sure sunlight is shone on the hell hole the bbc have created and ensure change happens without implicating himself or siding with any “side.”

whether any of them are bright enough to work that out remains to be seen.

I think the smarter ones are creating a back catalogue of statements and documents that they think can be spun as gender critical in the future. To show that they were part of The Resistance all along.

Anyway, the hearing has started. Let's see what the BBC and ex-BBC people say and whether the trans issue will be skated over.

WarriorN · 24/11/2025 15:35

Chair reminds everyone about the law suit from Trump

Prescott is outlining his memo, and underlined that he is a supporter of the bbc and what’s them to do better

MPs question key figures in BBC crisis over bias
OP posts:
WarriorN · 24/11/2025 15:40

Prescott expected them to sort out the issues systematically not by flouncing (my words)

OP posts:
WarriorN · 24/11/2025 15:47

Prescott says he feels BBC aren’t thorough enough with implementation around making sure they are balanced

it had a blind spot when following through methodologically

management culture? Or at programme editor level? But that’s what they need to look at why the implementation wasn’t better

OP posts:
WarriorN · 24/11/2025 15:49

Caroline feels they are actually dynamic around this though does concede some areas could have been better

OP posts:
WarriorN · 24/11/2025 15:50

(The elephant in the room no one will mention here re trans bias, is of course, the number of trans identified people at the bbc)

OP posts:
WarriorN · 24/11/2025 15:53

What’s your bias Prescott?

“im a centrist dad “

OP posts:
WarriorN · 24/11/2025 15:56

Someone tried to point out he has bias with some sort of donation from a business he has connections to to someone in America but he comes back with an example where journalists got something completely wrong and no one looked into how it went wrong
