A demonstration organised by the campaign group Let Women Speak (LWS) took place today at Bonn Square. Around 100 counterprotestors also assembled, including members from the Oxford Green Party, Stand Up to Racism, and Oxford for Trans Rights (O4TR).

It seems kjk's attendance at Yaxley Lennon's event has sparked support for her LWS by right wing "keep Britain white" types.
Each to their own I guess, she seems to court this kind of attention. But it doesn't help the rest of us when we're trying to lay facts bare to calmly explain our point of view.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 19/10/2025 06:44

The fact that the baying mob turned out to shout down the event shows just why 'Let women speak' events are necessary.

I see the student rag the article comes from is maintaining the much vaunted impartiality ethic of journalism. Not.

Having these men turning up to support her and waving Union Jack with 'Terf Island' written on them isn't a good look.

Blaming women for men’s actions again?

Does that mean that women shouldn't speak? Or she shouldn't have her views? I don't have to like them, but I will fight for a woman's right to speak because otherwise feminism is just the same as the male patriarch. Or the transgender whatever-you-want-to-call-it -archy.'

Besides, I don't think Oxford Uni has anything to be proud of at the moment, does it? Would you prefer that student's chant?

I thought the Raise the Colours movement have been very clever and taken a leaf out of KJK’s playbook. Them putting up the national flag is the same tactic as her woman billboard. Im
not surprised some of them have come to support her.

Are they supporting her or just taking the opportunity to show up for their own purposes?

I'm not sure the article was entirely accurate in its reporting of events, to be honest.

PoshCoffee · 19/10/2025 08:14

Who knows? Do we take people at face value or do we assign motives to them?

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2025 08:18

Do we know exactly what they were saying / doing to know what 'face value' is?

I'd say that if they turned up with flags and placards promoting their own cause, they were using the opportunity rather than 'supporting'.

That doesn't answer the questions of whether they were invited or whether they were supporting (i.e. were there to positively support women demonstrating free speech, carrying relevant flags and placards) or advancing their own cause, with their own flags and placards.

Do you have an unbiased source to allow us to decide?

Because Muslim countries, like Afghanistan or Iran, are famous for their good treatment of women - not!

Anyone who is serious about women’s rights would be against Islam.

Justme56 · 19/10/2025 08:36

Max Morris a self identified non binary, a lecturer at Oxford Brookes, Green Councillor etc. His SM seems to show a man who occasionally likes to wear make up. He supports the idea that trans and non binary people should access whatever facilities they want - I’d imagine he includes himself in this. He is there to protest women from speaking - says it all really.

We've spent decades trying to address the problems we have in our glass house, and continue to do so. How much effort have other houses put into putting themselves in order. KJK is not anti-muslim, she's trying to bring attention to how this religion disrespects women, she's trying to be a voice of protest for the women who can't speak up for themselves, protesting about misogynistic cultural practices is not anti anything it's pro women.

You wanna switch place and go live in Afghanistan if it’s all the same?

Quite.

Warning against the dangers of military age Islamist men invading our shores and the threat they pose to women and girls is not racist - it's definitely pro-women.

ApplebyArrows · 19/10/2025 09:08

Oh come on. If you decide to be mates with someone then you share some of the responsibility when your new mates start turning up to your open-invitation gatherings. This isn't a case of poor innocent Kellie-Jay having her protest gatecrashed by racist thugs. She openly chose to ally herself with them!

It's bad optics. It does nothing for feminism to join up with the hooligan mob. Even those of us who are concerned about immigration should know better than to be friendly with these scum.

The trans rights movement have done themselves incredible harm by failing to call out the criminal element within their ranks. Let's not fall into the same trap.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 19/10/2025 09:10

There's no comparison, and you know that really.

'let women speak' rally in Afghanistan? That could end badly.

SlackJawedDisbeliefXY · 19/10/2025 09:11

Footage of the event here I think -

SlackJawedDisbeliefXY · 19/10/2025 09:18

And here

The camera view is quite narrow so I don't see the the Union Jack with 'Terf Island' flags

It just seems like a group of women trying to speak whilst being shouted down by a fella with a PA who sounds a bit deranged

Found the corner of a flag - 33 seconds in on the first part.

Can't see the words terf island on it though - it appears to be being carried by a right wing thug cleverly posing as a 70 year old woman.

but that is not generally done in the name of religion and is not said to be a fundamental part of that religion.

tbh, i would no be wary of attending a LWS event because i don't want those right-wing idiots blurring the message. That is my own stance, other people have other opinions/stances.
