I don’t want to dismiss it! I want to understand how the concept of “proof” holds up in a post-truth world, where seemingly anything can be manipulated with AI, and no one has to accept any evidence that is placed in front of them if it contradicts their existing opinions or feelings.

I agree with you there. The future will be a scary world. This case is only different because it has a foot in the old and new. And it’s hard to go back in time now to fake photos and documents.

DontReinMeIn · 18/09/2025 16:05

What makes you say that?

This lack of critical thinking and acceptance of conspiracy theories is absurd

By their own admission Brigitte was 36 when they met & Emanuel 14. A heterosexual relationship with those ages of the people involved doesn't really sound credible....a homosexual one does sound more believable.

Bideo · 18/09/2025 16:06

And if any of that is true he's managed to become President of France despite everything, so who's really in charge?. It does matter.

absolutely it matters @Bideo that’s why they don’t want anyone to question this.

That some being extremely right wing MAGA nuts throwing whatever they can at politicians they don’t like

Look at the original journalist who did the research. Using labels is just a way of saying shut the fuck up, no debate. Where have we heard that before?

I don’t think there is a debate to be had? This is a completely unfounded rumour based on some old pictures

Bideo · 18/09/2025 16:21

If they have chosen to prove her sex, why aren't they using the swab the athletes use? Is there a problem with that test?

TheCatsTongue · 18/09/2025 16:26

It's an absolutely ridiculous allegation, but the Macron's have decided to go for libel so they have to provide evidence.

Celebrities in the UK advise people not to sue for libel because you allow for everything to be dug up and have to provide an absurd amount of evidence (but a lot less than in the US).

I never stop growing amazed at how anything can be turned in the TRA's favour. Stating this case is forcing ALL women to prove their sex because someone thinks they're male, so best never to ask for evidence in ANY circumstance and let lying biological males off.

Haffiana · 18/09/2025 16:26

There is so much fascinating research that the brains of people who believe in conspiracy theories really are different. The regions of the brain implicated in value-based decision-making and belief uncertainty are quite different.

I await the correlation between the brain activity of conspiracy theorists and religious fanatics as I personally find their explanation rationales and thought processes to be almost identical.

AMansAManForAllThat · 18/09/2025 16:26

This is beyond weird. It bothers me that we’re talking about it because it feels as if we’re feeding conspiracy theorists.

Yet it is a shocking a woman feels required to do this.

I’ve always been shocked by the age situation- I thought I read Macron was friends with her son, and she was his teacher. It surprised me that the relationship didn’t act as a barrier to his success.

As a woman, I resent that any sort of accusation could be levelled at me because I don’t look feminine enough.

So you're happy to have men in women's spaces because how else do you prevent it?

supportergirl · 18/09/2025 16:32

Surely as Macron started this lawsuit she would have known that she would need to show proof in some way?

I don't really think this is a downfall on woman - she's not being randomly asked to show it, she started a deformation lawsuit and as such has to argue her case?

You’re free to think what you want. Others are free to want to protect children from predators. The French public at least deserve the truth.

DoubleShotEspresso · 18/09/2025 16:35

This is preposterous & so scary.
Why should any woman have to “prove” their biology when supposedly it’s unacceptable to ask the same of a fella in a frock in a public bathroom?

i am not particularly a fan of the Macrons, but surely this sets a pretty horrible precedent?

Well it sets a precedent if you start of a lawsuit expecting millions in compensation.

It's clearly a false allegation, but if you take it to court then expect to have to provide this level of evidence.

Surely the precedent is already set - if you're going to bring a case for libel you have to prove the allegations are untrue?

Its not about her proving she's a woman, but proving CO lied.

If Owens is to be believed then she has ‘fathered’ three kids and no photos of baby with mother.

Good god, they walk among us.

Nothereforagoodtime · 18/09/2025 16:38

Yes, the naive who daren’t believe people in power could be corrupt or pedophiles. Will you be back with all those baby photos?

AMansAManForAllThat · 18/09/2025 16:41

I just googled pictures of her, as a result of this thread. I was interested in the allegation about the various photographs, more than what she looks like.

I realised as I looked at her that she’s being scrutinised by thousands of people, judging her appearance in one way or another. So I stopped.

How awful.

Beowulfa · 18/09/2025 14:58

I used to lurk on a forum where (male) posters were convinced Michelle Obama was really a man. There's no evidence that will change this kind of mindset.

Yes, that is also a widespread conspiracy circulating in the U.S.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 18/09/2025 16:44

This is the only conspiracy theory that makes me pause and think there may be something in it. The origins and longevity of their relationship is bizarre in itself.

That's very interesting about social mobility in France, @MarieDeGournay.

But there’s no evidence she is trans.
