It is so amazing what an accomplished knitter you have become.

It's my birthday soon and I've asked the Walrus for a knitting needle "system" which will have cable needles included. So it seems silly to get a single cable needle right now.

I will do other squares and I may try duplicate stitch where you sew a pattern over a knitted or stocking stitch square.

This is the finished square. It's clearly not perfect 😂 but it's good enough.

Cables have inherent stretchiness imo

MarieDeGournay · 14/09/2025 18:07

That cable square is brilliant, Myrtle, you'll be taking on an entire Aran jumper soon!Smile

AlexandraLeaving · 14/09/2025 18:22

I love your cable square Myrtle. It's fab. And the colour is gorgeous too.

You're right that it's still tight when using a cable needle but not as much as when you are using your ordinary needles because you can angle the cable slightly when you are knitting from it, which makes it easier.

I have a couple of cable needles that have ridges in them, indentations carved into the wood. They are really good at not having things slip off. I would offer to lend it to you pending the arrival of your new set* but it doesn't seem wise to be sharing addresses with people we meet on t'interweb, even in the lovely Blue Stocking.

*What type of set is the Walrus getting you? You've piqued my knitting nerdiness!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 14/09/2025 18:34

I've used the straight cable needles & possibly the ones with a V, but I hadn't seen the U shaped ones before.

I use toothpicks for cabling although I haven't cabled for years.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/09/2025 20:34

That's gorgeous, Magpie

Magpiecomplex · 14/09/2025 21:21

I think it goes nicely with my wings.

I want him to get me this interchangeable needle system.

KnitPro Nova Deluxe Interchangeable Needle Set 5" (13cm) | 8 Sizes (3.5mm to 8mm) https://amzn.eu/d/6VOxeIW

Other systems are over £100!

I realise I have confused a cable needle with the cables used for knitting systems, but as the needles are double pointed, I hope to use one ofnthem as a cable needle.

Nooooooooooooooooo!

Step away from the beetle with your nail polish and wool.

Although I do look cute in that jumper.

<scratches all over>

Nope! Get the wool off me.

I notice I'm being held down whilst the nail polish is applied!

Just glad knitting jumpers and painting hedgehog nails is an impossibility.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 14/09/2025 22:10

Oh dear, you don't look well! Sorry about that. At least your legs are beautifully painted.

I see you captured my just touched wool reaction perfectly.

I'm off to bathe in Calomine lotion.

The nail polish definitely suits Magpie better than beetle. Though painting creatures with natural iridescence is like gilding the lily.

Bannedontherun · 14/09/2025 22:31

@AlexandraLeaving knit as you go jumper? 😂

That looks all lovely and cosy, although the knitting whilst wearing is a twist.

I like the look of wool but actually touching it is a different story.

Of course, there was that time you went for the nudist look, you'd have benefited from a knitted jumper then! Plus it would have been safe to do your nails!
