Won’t the gerbils just feel the disturbance in the force that brought Magpie here?
I do hope so.
They may be a little baffled by landing here, but would that be out of the ordinary?

To be fair the gerbils baseline of ordinary is so far out of the normal range that I think they just shrug and get on with whatever is demanded of them these days!

Oh, don’t we look wholesome with our piping hot mugs.

The gerbils are bang on with the snacks tonight.

It's that sort of weather tonight, although I saw Gladys emptying a bottle of scotch into the hot chocolates so we will be plastered shortly.

Yes, they are so gently accepting.

Dean, your dinner sounds delicious. I find cooking so tiresome, but enjoy eating. Eternally on the horns of a culinary dilemma.

Thank God!

I was a little worried there.

Oh the cheese and Marmite toastie! Just add Caribbean hot pepper sauce for perfection.

PS. I did have the latest move in my diary but not until tomorrow morning. Sorry.

Every now and again I consider checking to see if Just eat/uber eats operate in my area. So far I have managed to ignore the fact that they most certainly do.

I fear if I succumb before I know it I will be like the couple across the road who never get any actual shopping, but do get breakfast, dinner and tea delivered.

See, for a toastie, I’d probably have cheese with HP sauce. But marmite with cheese on toast. God knows why, but that’s just the way of it.

We always seem to hit 9 pm ish and suddenly have to start hauling stuff to a new thread, this one has been surprisingly relaxing. Probably because we left everything behind this time!

I'm sure the space time thingy will have corrected for our laziness by morning.

Well, I always cook from scratch. But recently I am doing so mostly via the air fryer.

I reserve the HP for bacon butties. I have mayonnaise with my toasties.

I try always to have some meals in the freezer that I can pull out when I can't face cooking for myself - I'll have weeks when I might cook three times and end up with ten bags of frozen stuff, and then if I have a slump it's there. The allergies mean the choice of ready meals is limited, and they can get quite samey.

My laziness about labelling things does result in some odd surprises.

Swashbuckled · 13/09/2025 21:19

This thread has also caused me to start snacking. It often does when we talk about food. I’m emptying beef and horseradish crinkle cut crisps into a bowl. I’ve done it a few times since the thread started.

Does sticking chicken nuggets in the air fryer qualify as cooking from scratch?

If so, so do I!

Mine actually does an amazing rotisserie chicken.

This will be outing if my sister sees it but my mum once defrosted what she thought was a tub of bolognese sauce, only to discover it was homemade chocolate ice cream.

Swashbuckled · 13/09/2025 21:21

Possibly not, no.

But I’ve roasted some whole chickens in the air fryer recently too. It’s amazingly easy, and they cook beautifully.

DeanElderberry · 13/09/2025 21:22

Air fryers are wonderful when you're cooking for one. Meatballs many ways.

Hello everyone.

I seem to love (air fried) roast new potatoes as a side to everything at the moment.

Don't feel up to making meatballs; that’s proper cooking. But I can happily chuck a piece of protein in at the same time and steam some veg in the microwave.

And I've become rather invested in having a pudding, which I never have been previously.

Bannedontherun · 13/09/2025 21:26

Whereas I'm eating cheese and marmite puffs.

The thing with small bags of crisps is that it feels like being rationed.

Swashbuckled · 13/09/2025 21:30

I remember when picked onion crisps came out (in proper crisps, not space raiders or monster munch) and I thought they were the best flavour I’d ever had. They didn’t seem to be around for long. Sad times.

I remember hedgehog flavoured crisps.

Alas they were forced to withdraw them from sale as they didn't contain actual hedgehogs.

Ooo pickled onion crisps…..

i am slurping loads of wine watching shit on TV and generally enjoying my personal autonomy on the penultimate night before a four day assault course.

no wine excessive amounts of activities with small people, limited and interrupted sleep and board games

and hopefully no fall outs.

Boiledbeetle · 13/09/2025 21:38

I've just added a chicken to my shopping.

Tomorrow I shall feast on rotisserie chicken and banana lava!

Good times!
