These threads are currently being used to follow the case that is taking place at Westminster Magistrate's Court over the 4th and 5th September, but will also be following the subsequent fallout of Graham's arrest at Heathrow on his return to the UK for this court case earlier this week.

He is currently on trial for alleged harassment of a trans identified male and criminal damage to the man's phone. The charges stem from a series of events in October 2024 at Battle of Ideas.

Free Speech Union are running a fundraiser to support a claim against the Met in reference to the Heathrow arrest. Just search FSU and Graham Linehan fundraiser and it should be easy to find. Currently reached 93% of its target.

Most of the mainstream media have reported on the case, but none have covered it as well as Nick Wallis. Follow him on X for live posting from the court.

I love the Baroness has written a letter that includes the word 'fuck'. She must have had to disinfect her keyboard.

Treaclewell · 05/09/2025 17:45

A piece from ther Standard popped up on my laptop, courtesy of MSN, asking why so many bright people, citing Glinner, JKR and Elon Musk are so virulently anti trans.
I don't know if this will work. OPINION - Graham Linehan: Why do so many 'geniuses' seem obsessed with being anti-trans?OPINION - Graham Linehan: Why do so many 'geniuses' seem obsessed with being anti-trans?

I would have thought it obvious. They can see the truth. The article comes up with the usual rubbish about suicides, and is particularly vicious about JKR.

💯

Me too. With Glinner I'd probably just wibble in a corner at being in the presence of one of the finest TV comedy writers and a brave fighter, but with Tarquin, I'd be cowering in fear until the doors opened. Big difference.

murasaki · 05/09/2025 17:47

The letter is magnificent. Blunter even than usual, but then it needed to be.

Talkinpeace · 05/09/2025 17:47

@glinner
I am so sorry that 'the process is the punishment' means you are on tenderhooks till the end of next month.

If the Met try anything daft about you replying to Riley, contact the Baroness
(so long as you do not swear in her presence) she'll have your back

Have a good weekend.
Even the Beeb and the Graun are realising that you might just be the victim here.

No, she's old school, she'll swear like a trooper at home. I bet Baroness Trumpington did too.

No, she does not. Promise. She is genuinely anti swearing.

Ah, ok. This really must have riled her then. Good. Saying that, she was quoting rather than swearing herself so has probably rationalised it that way.

So ... why are so many smart people gender-critical? What a great question!

Let's all take a long, long time to ponder the answer.

Cailleach1 · 05/09/2025 17:52

But it is not true that they take all complaints seriously. That is a lie. They ignore dangers to women. So, they enable (even worship) these abusive men, whilst basically telling women to f&ck off.

Elon Musk is not a genius. Everything he is an "expert" in (playing video games, coding, engineering, politics) he has turned out to have had actual experts putting in the hard graft OR has proved to be spectacularly bad at. That doesn't mean there isnt skill in eg being the person to bring the engineers together, having the vision to develop Rocket etc (daddy owning an emerald mine probably helps). He also isn't a clear thinker. It's just his crazy beliefs go in a different direction. But JKR and Graham Linehan are both people who are genuinely creative and made things that people still read/watch years later. Its not fair to group them like that.

murasaki · 05/09/2025 17:56

They certainly ignore all the reports of criminal activity reported on my street. And tell us they received no reports. Even in the face of our joint Street Google doc where we record the crime numbers, (and dates and ring doorbell evidence) as received from online reports. That's the Met.....

RedToothBrush · 05/09/2025 17:04

Not just me coming across this then.

Nope. And I'm in rural Cumbria.

I was really surprised how informed people were.

Almost more interesting is how many people with a public profile seem to be entirely incapable of following an extremely straightforward, logical argument

1.) humans can’t change sex
2.)spaces, services and sports which are designated by sex are designated by sex, not gender

simples

Please do link, I love a good letter from the Baroness. As said before, I'd definitely buy a book of her collected epistles.

Oooohhhh....now there's a Christmas gift idea that needs to be commissioned.

Glinner has peaked a lot of people who didn't think it had anything to do with them so ignored it all. At his own cost. And for that I'm profoundly grateful.

Saying that the originator of Paypal, SpaceX and Tesla isn't "creative" is a hard row to hoe, isn't it?

Busybeingborn · 05/09/2025 18:02

Musk didn’t originate PayPal (or confinity as it was originally known) and he didn’t found Tesla

Talkinpeace · 05/09/2025 18:03

Tesla existed for several years before Musk bought it.
Paypal was very much a team effort
SpaceX is entirely reliant on the three chief engineers who actually run it.

Elon does stuff like wanting to send a sub down a cave in Thailand

His involvement was what got my attention years ago. An article with a photo of him and going on about the police talking to him, something to do with Tony probably. I thought WTF??? and started to read up on it.

Its just I won’t be able to get it or the image out of my head all night now
I might even subject dh to another watch. 🥳

Obstinate, headstrong gel!

DeanElderberry · 05/09/2025 18:03

Glinner's phrase 'concocted taboo' was useful. Of course, all taboos are concocted, they are a way of defining and controlling an in-group and excluding an out-group. Often associated with religious belief or tribal membership. Ultimately arbitrary, but deeply meaningful as a way of cementing alliances.

And not binding on members of the out-group.

KeepTalkingBeth · 05/09/2025 18:08

So. Brooks is dodgy as fuck and it's interesting that the Internet doesn't know his real name and there are serious doubts about his age. I hope better brains than mine will get to the bottom of those two mysteries soon. I have no doubt there's a lot more dirt about the fragrant Sophia out there.

The fun thing is that there is now a month or so for interested people to look into this, before the next sitting of this case.
