Just woke up here!!!

Magpiecomplex · 01/07/2025 08:11

For anyone joining us for the first time and uncertain what the hell is going on, welcome, and join the club!
Women's pub, all calories and alcohol consumed here don't have any effect, staffed by a variety of very cute animals. Men welcome to pop over to the Staunch Ally down the road. Period dress entirely optional, AI randomly decided to transport us all to the 18th century for this picture.

Where are my manners, THANK YOU @Magpiecomplex

re:18th c dress, I'm glad to remember a poster on another board, long ago, who did re-enactments and said that stays are actually very comfortable. Support the spine and anything else that needs supporting, linen, don't need to be laced tightly to function.

Full skirts mean one can stride out comfortably and have space to stow ones pockets.

Happy days.

Though we should all be wearing wide brimmed straw hats to protect our lovely complexions.

Magpiecomplex · 01/07/2025 08:24

That's interesting, Dean, although as the owner of a pair of dreadnorks I think I'd need a bedsheet as a fichu to avoid a) falling into my soup and b) early onset blindness in any passing men.

Fellow nork-sufferer here, I was assured scaffolding can be (and was) stitched in.

Presumably the unreality field also extends to no UV in the sun's emission spectrum.

@space waves, Is Split Pea Annexe B a reference to something specific, or is it part of the general playful theme you're building here?

It appeared right at the end of the last thread. Please tell me it's not a real thing?

Morning all! Many thanks @Magpiecomplex for the new thread.

Gosie is crashing about in the kitchen making pancakes if anyone would like one (or, er, three - remember, no calories here).

@Swashbuckled we're here if you need us. You and your DD are in our thoughts.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/07/2025 09:11

Welcome, @Boble1989- don’t worry about the title, it’s just a piece of gerbil history. Have a seat and a brew, I’ve got to take Colin the Dachshund for a walk round the new grounds.

Got here reasonably early, for once.

Something with ice in it, please, bargerbil.

Magpiecomplex · 01/07/2025 09:24

I hope Swashy doesn't mind me borrowing her galleon. Thought we could do with some more ice.

Wandering in. Too hot, thanks for the thread and the ice.

Oooh yes please, I need something to eat the insane amount of raspberries we are harvesting this year, both wild and garden, with. (I wasn't sure where in this sentence I should stick the "with", apologies to the grammar pedants)

FuzzyPuffling · 01/07/2025 10:35

Yesterday I made a chocolate sponge cake and filled it with whipped cream and copious summer fruit- cherries, strawberries and raspberries, all from the garden. I can pretend it's healthy.

PS I am rubbish in the kitchen, so it looks crap, but tastes ok!

AsWithGlad · 01/07/2025 10:36

I’ve been away for a couple of threads - how quickly they move - but am back home now.

no other conclusions, please.

It’s going to take me a while to read through those threads, so I may be quiet for a few pages.

I'm going to make some sweet woodruff panna cotta later this week and I'll make some raspberry coulis to go with it.
Usually I freeze the wild raspberries and alpine strawberries we pick and then eat them on my yogurt once fresh berries are out of season but looking at the bushes this year, I don't have the freezer space for the glut.

MarieDeGournay · 01/07/2025 10:39

Thank you for the new thread, Magpie.

I'm a Bluestocking regular, Boble, and I went whaaaaat? when I saw the new thread title, so it's not just you.

That was because I jumped straight to the new thread without reading the end of the old thread [just like I always start the ne tube of toothpaste before I've completely finished the old tube🙄].
When I went back I read all these wonderful stories about great gerbil heroes from history, which explains 'Split Pea Annexe B'.

Well I say 'explains', but the stories are some of the wildest pieces of phantasmagoria, like, everrrrrrrrr, like, literally😄

You can either ignore the meaning ['meaning'] of the thread title and just settle down in a comfy chair and hail a passing gerbil to bring you your tipple of choice, or you can go back to the previous thread and see just how weird it can get!

Ohhh that sounds delicious, @FuzzyPuffling. And since it contains fruit, and cocoa is a bean, it must be at least two of your five a day!

I have a funeral to go to this afternoon - a lovely neighbour from our street, who used to feed CatBastard treats, because he would sit outside their patio doors, looking woebegone, underfed and unloved. I will be thinking of her and of Swashbuckled at the same time.

DeanElderberry · 01/07/2025 11:46

Meanwhile in Ireland, where we are wondering will this infernal heat ever arrive, I see a forecast overnight temperature of 6 to 9 and am wondering where my hot water bottle is.

You're welcome to it. Too hot and humid to do anything here, except listen to next door's roofers banging and crashing away. No escape. Terrace house.

DH has already been out to request they don't climb on our ( wobbly) wall and use the trellis as a handrail.
