Welcome all, pull up a gerbil and make yourself comfortable!

Do the gerbils fan you gently, in between bringing drinks with iceberg bits in? Could they?

<Flops dramatically onto something suitably fainting couch-y>

On the 18th century dress - I was in the V&A Storehouse in Stratford last week (bloody brilliant and free) and one of the best items was a modern repro of a dress from that era, with cross sections and holes so you could see how the scaffolding worked and where the secret pockets were hidden in the panniers.

Surprisingly practical as long as you're not trying to traverse narrow spaces.

I think we’ve probably got some birds (apart from Magpie and Puffling) who will perch near you and fan you with their wings. Not that the Bluestocking is ever uncomfortably hot, of course.

Meanwhile, I just noticed on the last thread that the giant wombat completed her journey here on a tractor-trailer. I was wondering if the AI came up with that image initially, or did it first try to fob her off with an articulated lorry? When I lived in the US I used to be quite confused by the number of problems on major roads apparently due to agricultural vehicles: ‘tractor-trailer jackknifed on the I-95’ type of thing.

Edited

First attempt, but I did specify the make of tractor. My favourite make of tractor. Why, yes, I am a terrible nerd, what gave it away? 😂

MF, judging by the livery?

I was on holiday a while ago and saw an elderly David Brown.

<happy sigh>

Sitting at home feeling sorry for myself as it's boiling and the thermometer is reading 22 degrees in my house.

Just got an email from a friend in France his thermometer is on 41 degrees!!

I suddenly am very grateful for my 22 degrees!

My weather station is saying 36.5° outside in full sun and 28.9° inside. 🥵

I wouldn't mind being in Ireland right now. Wilting a bit in this heat.

Something like this?

Matching your gown to your chaise longue is style, Tea, very impressive!

If the gerbils can't, I will - as Handel/Congreve pointed out :
'Cool Gaels shall fan the glade' 😁

Anyone nearby to welcome the lovely Japanese Ambassador? He's fond of a Tunnocks teacake, so he's our sort of chap.

I daresay, but he's a man. He is welcome to enjoy his teacake in the stableyard or at the Staunch Ally.

I don't make the rules.

And, as we all know, letting one in means that you have to let them all in.

Shhhh...don't mention Colin.

Thankfully the same rule does not apply to beetles or before you know it there would be dung beetles everywhere making a mess of the gardens.

Thought you'd like a photo of the Badly Constructed Cake.

I meant IRL. Even the Japanese Ambassador would have to have a plate of Tunnocks passed to him through an open window at the Bluestocking. As any fule kno.

Bet it tastes delicious. Plus that looks better than most of my "well constructed" cakes!

FuzzyPuffling · 01/07/2025 17:18

It won't get a handshake from Paul.Hollywood, will it. On the other hand, who even wants one of those?

A breed of tractor I have never heard of! They do not seem to exist in these parts - MF, John Deere, New Holland, Klaas, Fendt, now and then a Case, the odd little Kubota, even the ocassional ancient Ford.

The Fendts have a rep for blowing up.

Ooh, a large slice, please.

Just FYI, everyone, while it is cool in both senses to have iceberg bits in the drinks, you do need to watch out for penguin shit.

I had to send Germoleen back to get me another drink. Pimms with penguin poo is a no. Even if it does have pretty borage flowers in it.

They're mostly forestry tractors, which is why they aren't that common. Fendts are also cool, although the tendency to go boom is less so.
I once came across a Klaas combine driving through the middle of our county town. I was in awe at the sheer bravado of trying that!

Thanks for the public service announcement Edith. I wondered why my drinks were being served with a tea strainer.
