Shhhh...don't mention Colin.

Colin is a dog, he’s been here forever.

They're mostly forestry tractors, which is why they aren't that common. Fendts are also cool, although the tendency to go boom is less so.
I once came across a Klaas combine driving through the middle of our county town. I was in awe at the sheer bravado of trying that!

We live on the sort of road where you can keep tabs on the agricultural cycle by watching what goes past.

Even if I hadn't seen a combine out cutting the other day, I'd know they were moving because the balers have been trundling past.

Exciting life I lead. The penguin poo has spiced it up a bit....

My image is of 2 gerbils levering what looks like a Malteser out of a block of ice.

Note to patrons: they're not Maltesers. Don't eat them!

.

GERBILS! GERBILS! I think Android might have fainted... cold water... NO, not THAT cold water...

That's better... Sorry, Android.

ETA, your image wasn't showing when I typed my reply.
Still, you look a little queasy.

The cake looks wonderful. I’ve never been very good at cakes; my foolproof method for DDs birthdays was to make a pair of chocolate cakes which were then sandwiched together and covered with a layer of chocolate fudge icing (melted good dark chocolate with some cream mixed in), thick enough to cover all the defects. The less perfect the sponges, the more chocolate fudge - no one ever complained!

wtf are we getting icebergs all the way from the Antarctic? Confused

Chersfrozenface · 01/07/2025 17:51

wtf are we getting icebergs all the way from the Antarctic?

Indeed. Isn't the Arctic closer?

Though you then have to worry about polar bear poo

JanesLittleGirl · 01/07/2025 17:51

Fun factoid. David Brown also owned Aston Martin from 1947 to 1972. This is why Aston Martins were all DB(version number).

Far fewer bears than penguins.

I used to lash on massive amounts of buttercream and as many sweets as I could get to adhere.

I did occasionally try to be more creative - one year, for their joint party in the summer, I did three pizza cakes - one layer of Victoria spong, red buttercream, dyed green desecrated coconut as herbs, ham, mushrooms and peppers made out of fondant, grated yellow fondant for cheese, and some candied pineapple pieces.

Another year I did an oblong cake, iced in dark blue fondant, with a NASA rocket on it - that was fun because the blue food colouring made the boys’ poo green - they were well impressed.

I did once create a locomotive with two wagons full of smarties, out of supermarket cake, Swiss roll and Jammie Dodgers for wheels - and it was the right gauge to fit on the Duplo railway track. The buttercream didn’t want to stick, though, so I was up until the middle of the night pasting it on, filling the holes, and swearing as it fell off again.

My favourite cake is coffee cake with coffee icing. We stop at a farmshop called Mainsgill, on the A66, when we go to see ds1 and family, and they do a gorgeous coffee cake, filled with whipped cream and iced with coffee icing. It isn’t terribly diet friendly, but sometimes I decide I don’t care!

Oban area, waves back :)

Oban A&E was our most northerly casualty visit, @Igneococcus - we were up there on holiday, and ds3 decided to ram a ball of tissue paper into his ear, so far down we couldn’t even see it, let alone retrieve it safely, so we had to resort to Oban hospital, where a lovely nurse fished it out, and kindly didn’t laugh at ds3!

EdithStourton · 01/07/2025 18:44

Wonderful to see you, @Swashbuckled - we keep your galleon in view.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I've also been to Mainsgill - visiting family the opposite way to you. Will try to remember to check out the coffee cake next time - usually I grab something to eat in the car and keep on going.

But more poo per bear.

Hang on. I thought that bears shit in the woods so why there be any poo on an iceberg?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/07/2025 19:21

I’d like to cuddle a polar bear - in cooler weather, though.

I assume polar bears must have to make allowances, otherwise they could run the risk of getting seriously constipated!

Loving the Malteser ice cube the gerbils came up with.

Why are Grenda and Germoleen giggling in the doorway?

Where's my picture HQ???

Sigh! It was a beetle holding a glass filled with "Malteser" icecubes and 2 giggling gerbils! Can't see why it's not been allowed!

I just noticed a thread in Site Stuff about some innocuous photos not showing up.

Yes..
hm, I’d guess that it’s best to stick to herbivore dung, but I’m not an expert.
