A thread to gather politicians' responses to yesterday's Supreme Court judgement.

  1. Stella Creasy. She's rather unhelpfully posted a pdf, (and turned off replies), so archive below.

'I know there are many trans and non-binary people who will be feeling deeply worried today, caught in the midst of a media storm as they try to simply live their lives. To those people, I say: please know that I stand with you - today, tomorrow and always.
@TheGreenParty
continues to support a policy of self-ID to allow trans people to live full lives free from harassment in the gender they know themselves to be. The judge emphasised in his speech that trans people are still protected under the law, but it is for government to now demonstrate how this will be achieved. I will work closely with human rights and LGBTIQA+ groups to understand the consequences of this ruling, and will not hesitate to press for changes in legislation if it is needed to protect the human rights of all.'

Russell Findlay, the Scottish Conservatives leader, last night accused Sarwar of "trying to rewrite history" over his party's support for GRR.
He said: "Anas Sarwar’s Labour voted for Nicola Sturgeon’s divisive and dangerous gender self-ID law. So he’s got some front peddling this ridiculous rewriting of history. Does he think the people of Scotland are stupid?"

Imagine expressing "disappointment" that the Supreme Court has clarified that women have rights and trans people have rights, and that one category doesn't supersede the other.

TheOtherRaven · 17/04/2025 11:17

I will wait with interest for the suggested legislation that better and more empathically subordinates women's rights and equality to men.

That should be entertaining going through the HoC and HoL. Not to mention that Reform should be able to just phone the next election in from the pub.
