A thread to gather politicians' responses to yesterday's Supreme Court judgement.

  1. Stella Creasy. She's rather unhelpfully posted a pdf, (and turned off replies), so archive below.

Lots of solidarity for transwomen but not so much for the transmen… unless shoehorned into transpeople. How predictable. No mention of women either… how even more predictable.

I watched BBC breakfast. Full of stuff about diminishing rights for trans women, I counted 30 mentions. Not a single mention of a trans man

ArabellaScott · 17/04/2025 11:28

It's also interesting to see who is not making any comment on the news that filled BBC front page for the whole day yesterday, and is on the front page of virtually every UK newspaper.

Not a peep from Kirsty yet.

Well I agree with Stella on one point, the question marked over the GRA.

I suspect we part company on what should be done with the GRA

Do the Greens actually bother with environmental issues these days?

Nah

FlippinFumin · 17/04/2025 11:43

Do you know how you can tell this is a men’s rights movement? All the bloody politicians and celebrities massaging the egos of trans identifying men and making soothing noises like they are bloody babies.

SeventeenClovesOfGarlic · 17/04/2025 11:48

Some posters aren't pasting the tweet or doing a screenshot, most many people don't want to use that Musk website or give it any traffic.

Labour health minister Karin Smyth says NHS guidance will be updated to reflect the ruling :

and says the Tories owe the country an apology & cites a Tory PM saying trans women are women.

There is actual footage here so can't archive.

Helen Joyce was superb being interviewed in times radio this morning.

On Humza yousef’s response
she said private eye would call it a reverse ferret but welcomed Humza to Terfdom.

Has everyone seen this gem?

A movement calls itself “Save The Whale.”
Nearly everyone thinks yeah, I’m all for that

“We will achieve this by killing Japanese people.”
This is ‘Women’s Rights’ - GC style.

Carla Denyer.

'I know there are many trans and non-binary people who will be feeling deeply worried today, caught in the midst of a media storm as they try to simply live their lives. To those people, I say: please know that I stand with you - today, tomorrow and always.
@TheGreenParty
continues to support a policy of self-ID to allow trans people to live full lives free from harassment in the gender they know themselves to be. The judge emphasised in his speech that trans people are still protected under the law, but it is for government to now demonstrate how this will be achieved. I will work closely with human rights and LGBTIQA+ groups to understand the consequences of this ruling, and will not hesitate to press for changes in legislation if it is needed to protect the human rights of all.'

Perhaps trans people would be less worried if their supporters weren't constantly going on about how worried they should be. You don't see this with other minority groups as much, I don't think.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 17/04/2025 12:02

Labour and the SNP have been veeeeery quiet on this ruling.

Are there trying to pretend it didn't happen or desperately trying to come up with a spin on it?

orangegato · 17/04/2025 12:03

Men are sore losers aren’t they. Take your polyester dress and Poundland lipstick into the men’s please lads.

Yeah, I thought this too.

Anything about women’s rights has to be centred on how it affects men.

Himdia confirming what we already know, that he’s delusional.

PatsFruitCake · 17/04/2025 12:13

So many absolute fuckwits out there who just cannot bring themselves to support women.

Still it's a helpful reminder why I stopped voting LibDem and Green.

littlbrowndog · 17/04/2025 12:18

Helen was interviewed on radio5live by Rick and he straight away talked about trans people. She straight away said what about women who are 50% of the population. He is also asked her if she was sad for trans people when she replied he said you don’t sound very sad.

the bbc and their sadness but no sadness for women

JazzyJelly · 17/04/2025 12:20

I've no expectation of a response, but on the flip side, I've emailed my MP this morning to tell him how pleased I am about the judgement. So he knows at least one constituent cares!

Chariothorses · 17/04/2025 12:22

Harriet Harman is one that disappoints me. Still peddling the lie on x that has decimated SS services/spaces with

'Single sex spaces for women are important & can exclude trans women but only where necessary'

despite numerous legal bods correctly her online that the Supreme Court judgement means any time it is lawful to exclude men, it will be necessary to exclude all men, including trans women, or else it won't be a SS space.
