NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board - thread #2

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks.

Judge now asking about what she said about the conversation with Beth, and where they were positioned, when she was questioned by Angela in a meeting.

Judge does it follow that most, if not all the conversation happened whilst Dr Upton was getting changed from scrubs to casual clothes. Lots of yes responses.

It's horrific - like the fucking Salem witch trials - these men...these entitled men..

I hope they won't say Sandie couldn't have been that bothered about Upton changing near her, if she was OK to chat to him while he dressed. Because I imagine an A&E nurse has seen and done a lot of distressing things for the greater good and it's no benchmark.

The judge may be wanting to see if SP's testimony is coherent and reasonable when not under attack from JR.

It's disturbing me that it seems to be into ' were you sufficiently traumatised and did you show you were sufficiently traumatised' NOT women being entitled to single sex spaces as a matter of their human rights.

There's nothing stopping them having gender based changing rooms too.

I've missed some of today's (and am now chucked out - are we all?) but Upton claimed he didn't undress, I believe, which is odd as he'd have been in scrubs was heading home/out and it is a changing room, after all. Just the wrong one for Dr U.

The lesson I'm taking from this is to record every conversation I have, include notes about who was positioned where exactly and write up what happened every single day.

I'm really upset this is happening at all. In my country. In 2025.

Scotland's authority figures and institutions still seem to have an affinity with those authority figures from hundreds of years ago that were accusing and burning innocent women as witches. Ugh. What is wrong with this country? The stain of those witch trials and the awfulness of the process has re-emerged when we all thought we were past that dark part of our history. It just proves that misogynistic beliefs are ingrained so deeply in society that women will never, ever be safe. Or free. What a fucking tragedy.

The sound quality is awful. Perhaps because they are not using the microphones properly. But does anyone else have the problem that even when they speak into the microphones the words keep dropping out and the picture freezes/delays? I don't know if it's just my internet.

I hope that NC (or somebody else) manages to bring out that female nurses tend to menstruate and...err...might need to change out of bloody clothing/period pants....and there aren't any toilet facilities in a broom cupboard (which all sounds a bit like the Darlington nurses case).

Isn’t SP claiming harassment, not just discrimination? So they are not just looking for ‘you have been discriminated against by not having a single sex space’ but also ‘the behaviour of Upton and NhS Fife amounted to harassment’. That means they need more information about the respondents behaviour.

I hope I am not being overly optimistic with that.

Combined with don't show too many signs that you were traumatised, cos that would be harrassing the poor ickle transwoman.

I assume there is no correct level of emotional display that would thread that needle.
