The Bluestocking: where conversation should supersede cards

The Blue Stockings Society was founded by women emphasising education and mutual cooperation. Men could attend as invited guests, but in this Women's Pub, they are only welcome to peer enviously through the windows.

All women welcome!

All tastes catered for.

All food containing calories will not increase waistlines.

All drink containing alcohol will not intoxicate beyond the mildy merry and slightly inhibited stage. Guaranteed no hangovers.

Don't mind the gerbils, hamster, capybaras, quokkas and other assorted rodents. They're all female, all staff and very accommodating...

But I liked the red Sesame Streeter....

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2025 21:28

Just keep four hard boiled eggs in a sealed box in the fridge.

Well meant but boak

Occasionally buy a “protein pot” from M&S/Tesco/probably lots of other supermarkets, which are two hard boiled eggs and some baby spinach leaves?
There’s probably a few days until their use-by date, so it can lurk in the fridge until you want them.

Instant snack or sandwich filling.

I have two boiled eggs, tin of mackerel/sardines, mayo paprika and cayenne pepper all mushed up, for lunch twice a week. Obviously in the comfort of my own home, not in public. I'm not a sociopath.

@MyrtleLion Are you my husband?

Britinme · 11/02/2025 21:42

I'll be a home sociopath alongside you @MyrtleLion . I love a sandwich made with mushed up sardines (and a dash of ketchup) for lunch.

I have my own! He said adding tinned fish would taste great and he was right. (After all, he is a walrus.)

And we have quite a lot of tinned fish from a desire a couple of years* ago to eat oily fish twice a week. Which failed miserably. But is now actually happening.

*he's just told me we bought them at our last house. We moved here in the summer of 2021 🤣🤣🤣

Peanut butter and cucumber is the sandwich filling of the gods.

Just saying.

I like my peanut butter spread in the groove of a piece of celery. Cucumber needs no sandwich partner, it's good enough on its own as a filling.

Anyone want the mackerel in chili tomato sauce that were delivered by accident instead of just mackerel in tomato sauce?

Anyone

First to clap like a walrus gets them (Myrtles husband is not allowed to enter due to his walrus status advantage).

MyrtleLion · 11/02/2025 22:22

He would certainly love them. I have to avoid chilli which he says limits his cooking but it obviously does not.

My usual work lunch is mashed up sardine and hard boiled egg sandwiches.

I was only thinking today that people would think I was some sort of lunch-weirdo if they knew…

So validating.

Britinme · 11/02/2025 22:24

I've never tried the sardine and hard boiled egg combo - must do that...

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2025 22:35

I quite like a tin of Skippers for lunch with toast, but not in a sandwich to take out.
We make oatbran flatbreads, these make a good portable lunch - they easily fit in the map pocket of a walking coat.

Bannedontherun · 11/02/2025 22:55

Sorry folks you are all sock puppets and are all really one and the same, my husband <gets coat>

Britinme · 12/02/2025 03:24

I made old-fashioned date and oatmeal bars the other day - very moreish.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/02/2025 07:09

My sandwich of choice is tuna and avocado with iceberg lettuce.

AlisonDonut · 12/02/2025 08:46

I hit the bluestocking either as it is just about to move, or just after it moves. Inbetween, I can't keep up.

Anyhow I'm going to buy some Avocado today and have it in a sandwich for tea. Thanks FuzzyPuffling.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/02/2025 10:06

Brown bread, Alison!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/02/2025 11:48

My all-time favourite sandwich is salad and marmite - lettuce, sliced tomato, cucumber and marmite. But since I'm not eating bread any more, I can't have it. I miss bread. Fresh tiger bread with salted butter......... Mmmmmm.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/02/2025 10:06

Brown bread, Alison!

White home made sourdough here! Smashing avocado, with tomato and some coriander [still got loads in the freezer from 2023 harvests], salt and a little grated cheese and mayo. On top of iceberg lettuce. And buttered of course.
