The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

Socialist Worker has published a couple of articles about the march. It's the paper of The Socialist Workers Party which is TWAW.

The paper for the Communist Party of Great Britain is the Morning Star. The Communist Party hasn't fallen for gender ideology which makes sense as communism is based on dialectical materialism so not prone to any kind of woo.

Most of the information about the women’s march organisers is very shut down ( private Facebook groups , use of first names in the SW articles publicity ) but I found out that the crowdfunder organiser for the London march is an employee of socialist worker . I think that’s more than a coincidence . Generally speaking SW like a good march anyway - I think they even were at the anti Brexit ones so that fits .

National federation of Women's institutes put a letter out yesterday to be circulated to all members encouraging its members to attend marches around the country .

Having read through the whole of this thread now and the disaray of the organisation that has gone on, why the WI is supporting it at the last moment is beyond me , it’s clear that the Socialist Worker are involved too ( at least in London ) maybe they came on when the Women’s party pulled out ? ( read they had the original idea before that org was disbanded ? )

Edited

I think it's safe to say they have received some push back on Twitter https://x.com/WomensInstitute/status/1877726111427109030

Right. It's starting to make sense, now.

Socialist Worker who only last year apologised for their atrocious handling of rape allegations.

Quote from above article:

'On gender politics, the SWP has always been avowedly anti-feminist, seeing feminism as a rival to Marxism. It was common in the SWP in 2013 to hear that ‘class unites; oppression divides’

Probably more down to poor organisation

ArabellaScott · 12/01/2025 20:28

Unrealistic from top to bottom.

PonyPatter44 · 12/01/2025 20:44

It's not so much that it was unrealistic, but that they basically went stealth after announcing it. Anyone who wasn't there at the start couldn't find out about it, people aren't publicising it on their own socials because it feels secretive, and the chats are dead. A week before an event like this, the chats should be alive, everyone should be revving each other up, sharing details, arranging places to meet arguing about the speakers....but there's nothing. Even the noisy TRA has shut up.

It's such a shame, because it could have been great. They made it so clear, though, that men were more welcome than the wrong sort of women, so I think a lot of women have quietly drifted away.

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/01/2025 23:12

There are always problems when you have a mixed March and it nearly always the TRAs and their allies who cause it. Rarely happens on truly women only marches.

Seriestwo · 13/01/2025 00:11

is warbling Tom going to go to the Edinburgh march of Glasgow is off?

Very true. It is very odd but not surprising that it has went like this. They had a X page up but swiftly took that down due to the backlash they had on their about blocking women. With the silence on Facebook, you would think they would see the error in their ways but obviously not.
I think the most they have been.spoken about is on this thread 😂😂

I wonder how, or even if Women's Street watch vet their volunteers?
